U17 and U18 recruiting target observations

If so, KL has had a change of heart. I believe I recall she has been on record before saying she had no interest in coaching.

Big difference coaching for a few weeks for a USA 3x3 and running a program year around!

Agreed. But sometimes dipping your toe in the water allows you to make the plunge later. Or not. ;)

@Dillon77 & @Charliebball couple of Jersey/Philly girls (Aquino, Sidor) previously mentioned here, getting props in this ProspectsNation article.

Interesting stuff..........I've now seen Sidor play so many times that I have a pretty good handle on her..............she's clearly a hyper aggressive offensive talent that can play at a high level but not quite UConn material.......Dillon77 is more of the Aquino watcher....I haven't seen her lately but have never been a big fan........when I saw my daughter's team's 5'11' center outplay her it kind of put me off ..........who knows, they always say that centers develop late so perhaps she will be more then your average 6'9" kid in the end (that's if if she doesn't get deported)

Interesting.......she'd be a great pick up for UConn but I believe she's staying in the South.........hope I'm totally wrong!!!

Hey Coco...thanks for passing along.
Yeah, I got to see Aquino's last high school game of the year at Paterson Eastside (maybe her last ever there?).

As I put in a previous post, I think she'd improved a lot over the years, particularly this season. Two areas come to mind for me:
- better use of her body. I think this falls under the tag, "it takes longer for bigger people," but she's become more athletic in virtually all aspects, from simple things like cutting pivoting to using both hands.
- the jump shot. Agree with Prosepcts Nation here wholeheartedly: she can shoot the jumper on a reliable basis and her FT shooting is very dependable. Two years ago that was not the case.

Oregon State is taking a shot -- I would presume -- in this development continuing. To me, it's worth the gamble.

As for Sidor, I'm with Charlie: The Sidor Travelling Extravaganza comes at defenses in all varieties, from drives and dishes, to pull-ups and long bombs. And she's at rev speed more often than not. For some reason, a Doug Bruno-kind of offense comes to mind. Or perhaps a Katie Meier in Miami. Maybe even the 'Cuse?

I was a little skeptical about Smith's interest in South Carolina originally.. but after this weekend I'm pretty convinced SC is in a VERY good position with her. SC was the first home visit of the spring and the first OFFICIAL visit so there's real interest there (remember, SC was not in her original top 9 or so). Dawn really wants Smith and she went all out with the official visit, missing several engagements and recruiting Smith on the message of bringing more titles to Columbia. The mom was recruited separately with the coaching staff for most of the time while Smith spent a lot of time with Tiffany Davis (also from Texas), Cuevas-Moore and Cliney, all players from areas reasonably far away from SC. We also had 2018 Rhyne Howard on campus for an official and Jessica Shepard was allegedly here as well this weekend. Smith had a really great time and is already planning to return.

In the end, I still think it will be tough to get her away from Austin or Waco ... but SC will have a say here as well. And you can NEVER count out Geno with an elite recruit because things change quickly once a player sees all of those national championship trophies.

Jordan Nixon reportedly playing fantastic AAU ball right now.....here's a recent paragraph on those other then UConn that are interested per Raul:

FIRST TEAM

Jordan Nixon, Junior, The Mary Louis Academy

It didn’t take long for the first-year Hilltopper to settle into a rhythm with her team. Nixon was an offensive general for TMLA, averaging 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists per game. Her performance led to offers from some of the top colleges in the country, including Tennessee, Notre Dame, Florida State and St. John’s.

If you sub Virginia for Tennessee, those are the same four schools that were Danielle Patterson's -- her teammate at Mary Louis Academy -- final four colleges. I'd be interested in when the ND offer was made, given that PG Jenna Brown, also the class of 2018, has committed to Notre Dame.

A player I saw two summers ago, but then kind of disappeared was also feature in this article:

Emily Engstler, 6'1" Junior, St. Francis Prep
After being forced to sit out last season due to CHSAA transfer rules, Engstler made up for lost time this season. The Terriers’ forward was nothing short of dominant in the paint, racking up 19 points and 15.7 rebounds per game. She also chipped in 3.4 assists and 3.4 steals for good measure.

She reminded me a bit of Faith Masonius, but is even more of an inside-out player. Good old-fashioned forward, who I could see playing in a high-post kind of offense.

Class of 2018 Bexley Wallace, a 6'3" forward from Pickerington, Ohio (which is a 25 minute drive from OSU's campus) has committed to Penn State.

This class is loaded with top Ohio talent and so far McGuff has missed out on three.
Mikesell (to Maryland), Prohaska (to Notre Dame) and now Wallace.

Ohio State has not received a commitment from any player since Joy Cheek left for Northwestern. It may just be a coincidence, but it's worth noting.

Interesting analysis on Nelson-Ododa. I'm also intrigued she's ranked after Collier. I trust Prospects Nations rankings more so than ESPNs.

Do they have full rankings for the class of 2018 yet? I would like to see them.

Nelson-Ododa is ranked 1st by Blue Star and ASGR as well. I saw her with the U16 team last summer and thought she was the best player.

...and Sedona Prince makes 3. Collier to UConn; Prince to Texas. So where will Nelson-Ododa end up? Stay tuned.....

Dillon77 did you see this?
