Trashing Gampel

The lack of respect just rubs me the wrong way. In 1985 when Calhoun and Geno came to Storrs, Providence was way more established in both womens and mens basketball. What was built here and is represented by the banners in the rafters should garner something.
Oh I think every other team's fan base respects it, they just might hate it.

Or better yet, just punch them in the throat

Hope the people charged by AD Benedict can come up with solutions to the concession issues and add more seating. Arena could get to 11,000 plus. Men's and womans restrooms in each corner. Concessions are beyond slow. Should be a line for beverages only. Always felt they could add 2-3 rows at the top of all sections running the sidelines. Currently there are only 2 sections with extra seats on wood risers there. Find a way to add seats on the sidewalk sideline areas. Would need to have portals but would gain seats with great sightlines.

The concourse is horrendous and there was zero WiFi or cell service all night. Usually the WiFi works, atleast.

But I love Gampel.
WIFI at Gampel is a major embarassment...it's 2023 for goodness sakes

Based on multiple different groups of providence fans sitting near me, if they were harassed, they brought it on themselves. Most annoying groups of people who came here with the goal of antagonizing.

Watching them duck out early in a blowout was amazing and I’m glad they hate our arena and hope they don’t come back

Their probably not using guest wifi

(Texts to friends with recap from last night)

1)
I'm surrounded by Providence fans...

Fine. Dude realized he doesn't have service. I said I have the WiFi...

He thought I was gonna give it to him. I said I'm only giving it to UConn fans!

He looked at me like I had three heads...

I said what, that's our home court advantage!

2)
Guy asked another providence fan for help, she said what service do you have. He said at&t...

I said oh that's why, we have a Verizon tower on campus!

3)
PC fan next to me was too ashamed to admit he was leaving so he lied and said he had to go to the bathroom with 5 mins left... After I got up and let him out of the aisle he admitted he was going home...

I said games not over. You still have to watch to see if you'll lose by 20 or not!

Long live, as BE schools call, the “Comdom”.

Probably because when they play there they get f%*k#¥

Do people really think you can't watch every second of the game and use wifi?

Shocking, maybe they've never been to a game

There's pregame, timeouts, reviews, halftime.... I'd usually be talking about the game, maybe asking about a call, maybe trying to watch a replay they don't show us at UConn games...

And still 1,000% into the game. Most likely a lot more so than anyone who's not there.

As for the GP experience, I never move from my seat except when I drink a $ 2 beer

The guest wifi works fine, most of the time.
Was good last night.
I think the WiFi is inconsistent in both arenas, especially with the return of sellouts

And no, it's not me nor my phone

Students were sitting next to me during the PC game, doesn't happen often, even they complained about the WiFi, and they said it stinks all over campus

Such a great move by Hurley to get him moving and get him off the low block back to the basket stuff every trip. Really has made a big difference. Now when he gets an occasional traditional post feed it means something. His passing from top of key is much better than his passing out of low block, and that little ball fake and go from the 3 point line is giving teams trouble.

Agree with all but the little ball fake at the 3 point line. Please no more it gives us more trouble than the other team. Results are usually not good!

It does. It garners the envy of small minded Providence fans. So they lash out at those who are more successful in an attempt to tear them down. Let's see how the envious behave. Do PC fans and even Ed Cooley check these boxes?

1. They step out of character when others compliment or congratulate you.
2. They’re committed to scrutinizing your work—and misunderstanding your intentions.
3. They use ad hominem attacks and stereotypes to discredit or underestimate your intelligence, skills, and/or talent.
4. They romanticize your life or assume they're more deserving of your success because you've struggled less.
5. They diminish you while copying your characteristics, style, or work.

I can deal without Wi-Fi service for 2 hrs. I’ll admit the bathroom situation in Gampel sucks their should be a mens and womens bathroom on both sides. I always eat before and after the game. During the week I sometimes eat 1 meal a day anyways.

Can people handle no cell service and no eating or drinking for just 2 hrs if it means being at a UConn game?

There is not a team in the country that will beat UConn when they play like they did last night. I turned the TV off after the game ended both impressed, and at the same time confused as to how you have lost 7 games.
Meh. I thought that was a B+ game from us. Too many turnovers in the 1st half.

We played our best full game against Alabama back in November. You might run into that buzzsaw at MSG. Good luck with that.

As mentioned earlier, it is worse at XL, and I don't think it was only Madigan (notice how empty the building is. XL was nearly 100% occupied that night). I recall another of The Hoard also mentioning he couldn't live Tweet during the game and having to wait to get home. So I am not sure XL Center has a secure network meant only for the writers doing their job, let alone having to fight with the general public for a spot on an unsecured hotspot.

To be sure, not having mobile access is a first world problem for most people at most times, but what if an emergency sprung up for anybody? If one has the disposable income to afford attendance at a sporting event plus the ancillary costs that go along with it, they probably also rely on a smartphone for a great number of reasons and uses, over and above the ability to play Candy Crush while ball is in play, Heaven forbid.

Bottom line is that when people complain about an arena or stadium not being overflowing vs. those who choose to stay home, this is a relatively small, affordable, and fixable aspect to offer, bringing the live in-venue experience a little more even to at home.

Many teams might run into a buzzsaw. They also might run into something else, and that’s the confusion I have. To be fair I didn’t see a single UConn OOC game, but from the scores it was obvious how good they can be. Then I have seen multiple UConn games in the BE and wtf comes to mind. Weird team.

I don’t care about Wi-Fi. I’m there to WATCH the game. The only thing they need to do to improve Gampel is fix the lines for food/beer/bathroom. All they need to do is expand or build out the 4 corner areas where they have the concessions and restrooms. They will probably over think it and over spend, but that’s really all they need to do. We do not need some super fancy arena with all the bells and whistles. We are there to pound the opposition. That’s it. And as long as I can grab a beer/use the bathroom in a timely manner, I do not care. The beer/food lines last night were too long to wait in. As someone who doesn’t want to miss a second of the game, I refused to wait last night.
I think that’s fair but to say that it wouldn’t be helpful from a revenue standpoint to redo/expand the concourse and offer luxury or club seating is short sighted.

The wifi and cell service is awful. Couldn’t even get a second half bet in :((( i think they should do a better job with it. I know everyone likes to be the “I live in the moment” guy on these threads and brag about how dialed in they are…..but not everyone is you. World doesn’t stop spinning just bc we’re picking on providence. I’m sure the game would be a better experience if people could check in with outside world at halftime or whenever. Although nothing beats getting 5 minutes off campus and seeing 42 game related texts flood in at once

Concourse/concessions pretty bad too. I’m not an expert so idk what to suggest.

But amazing atmosphere. So happy I got to go to both games this year. It was electric at gampel and at the amp. How it should be

Wouldn't it have been a better experience to be a part of the conversation instead of apart from the conversation?

Not a fan of luxury/club seating. Sit with the rest of the fans. And I don’t see a need to redo the entire concourse. Much of what Gampel needs could be fixed by simply enlarging the 4 corner areas where they currently have food/restrooms - especially on the 3 corners that serve as entrances/exits. There’s lots of room to build those areas out. Also, something could possible be done with the galley-like walking areas behind the last rows up top. Let’s not get crazy with this…keep it mostly as is.

The drinking part is handled easily by bringing a flask.

If luxury boxes were added and the design somehow got the students all the way around the lower bowl similar to (throws up in mouth) Cameron Indoor, I wouldn’t hate the idea. Won’t happen of course…but wishful thinking.

It depends how and where they are worked in, but I don't think luxury boxes have a place in Gampel.

OTOH, a quality upgrade would be to replace the benches with chairback seating. Can't see a lick above row C of the second level in Hartford, but at least your tailbone won't be hurting for 3 days.
