He's not coming here - that's about all that matters for our purposes.

UConn's not even getting out of the gate these days.

It feels like the days of Pat Sellers and was it Lafleur when plan z guys like Jamaal trice and Darius smith were the caliber kids we were getting.

Very disappointed with this staff, need new blood is needed it feels like. Is Ricky Moore getting it done? Hobbs and Miller are graybeards I don't expect much but x and o's from them.

Is there anything brewing with Shonn Miller? In the past a player like Miller would be a no brainer for us, with this recruiting staff I'm not holding my breath.

Lol @ "in the past", the whole grad transfer craze started as JC's career was dwindling down and the first one they got was RJ Evans. Please point out all the no brainers that happened "in the past". Pretty obvious that Lewis wasn't going anywhere outside of his comfort zone, his HS coach tweeted out all local schools when he first announced he was transferring.

I don't think we've ever gotten a transfer like Miller.

He'll go to L'Ville. He will be more comfortable with the academics. Then again it is highly unlikely the Ohio St. doesn't have sort of program to keep athletes eligible. Besides, Patino took him out to dinner his last night in L'Ville. The restaurant had twin waitresses.

What I meant is if we had a position of need which desperately needed to be filled and a Ivy League player of Shonn Miller's ability became available I would think it would be a no brainer he would pick us over a school like Cal. With the way recruiting has gone lately I don't have that confidence. Also in the past we didn't usually have three scholarships available with a starting position available in our lineup.

Let's see...

Went to HS in Ohio
Graduated from Cleveland State
Immediately schedule visits to Louisville and Ohio State

I can understand some level of concern over recruiting, but the hysteria over kids we clearly never had a shot with gets a bit old. He was clearly never leaving the Midwest.

With Michigan getting a similar player in Wagner, they've filled that spot and they're out of scholarships. They're also technically in the race for Jaylen Brown, so I don't think they're still in it for Miller.

The list of schools is still huge, though - UConn, Illinois, Boston College, Providence, Marquette, Cal and likely others like UVa.

Pretty much, at the same time I saw he was transferring his hs coach tweeted out schools pretty much exclusively in Indiana, OH, and KY, once I saw that I said oh well.

We can't compete with a school like Louisville and Ohio State at this point. I'm going to take heat for this but I don't care.

Bruh, the scenario to add a grad transfer literally didn't exist in the distant past, so I see no point in referencing it. As for the ship issue, they had some to offer in 2010 when they added Bazz and Giffey in the spring, so its not like the program is in uncharted waters here.

We can and do, just not as often as we'd like.
The kid is from OH and has played Louisville and had his first transfer visit there. Just because we were mentioned in the same tweet as these guys, doesn't mean the odds were even equal to begin with. There's other fish in the sea still. Not the time to cry.

They were able to compete with Louisville for Jalen Adams. But oh let me guess, that was the past, huh?
Well technically yes. If you don't think we're at a severe disadvantage due to being in CUSA, good for you.

It's a bit knee jerk to demand changes to a staff that just won a title. Ricky Moore is a bottom rung assistant coach who I would like to think had a lot to do with Boat's improvement as a defensive player (Purvis too in a shorter time frame). He seems like he's brought a lot of value. You're not going to jettison him and find a recruiting difference maker wanting an entry level coaching position.

Hobbs is in a chief recruiter role and perhaps isn't what he was in his younger days. But at the same time, perhaps he's done a great job with the early leg work, gotten us on the final lists of a lot of guys and we haven't gotten them to sign, which is really what the head coach needs to do. Maybe it's more that our head coach still needs a little growth in that area and that you won't find a better person than Hobbs as a set up man willing to come to Storrs.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Howie retire, Hobbs take over there, and us with a chance to shake things up and find some new blood. But I'm not sure what we'd find. I'd like to get Kevin McHale with tons of AAU connections, so he could coach up our bigs and be an ace recruiter, but that's a fictional character. Maybe we don't find anyone and just promote Freeman, who could help more with bigs at least in a coaching role. But assuming someone doesn't take another job, I'm not ready to recommend changes until I at least see what happens in the 2016 class.

I wonder how much of the recruting doldrums are this league were in. Yes were UConn, yes we win titles and put players in the NBA, but everyone we were PREVIOUSLY in a conference with has to be playing up the fact that we are currently in a conference with the likes of ECU and Tulane, on the recruiting trail.

Some of the other schools in this league have to make a little noise in March for this conference to be taking seriously on the trail. I mean its nice that the other schools in our league can say were in a league with UConn, but.....

Pat Sellers would be the best recruiter on the staff if he were here now. Trice was a total reach but Smith was a top 75 recruit with a lot of good offers who committed literally days after the Nate Miles thing blew up. Poor evaluation, but good salesmanship there.

Who is Howie?

If we're in the ACC, this thread doesn't exist.

Coming off a title, with Ollie and a new facility to show off, no way are we scraping in April.
I feel like it's the elephant in the room that no one wants to mention in this thread. Instead we have people suggesting we replace coaches off a staff that as of this writing is still national champs.

I think Ollie is the best possible type of coach to combat our current predicament, but it is a major impediment to our recruiting.
