And this would be something new?

Well usually that sound just comes from a southwesterly direction........... this would produce sounds from that direction AND from the due south as well.

Waiters? I'm still a busboy

Thanks...enjoy the give and take, and breadth of interest in all things WBB here on the 'yard. Also a loyal member of McGraw's Bench, but sometimes we're "talking to the converted," if you know what I mean. Good to go out and test your opinions elsewhere...not to mention learn some new things.

Glad you got out to the Bend and enjoyed it. I'll be out there in September to see Duke...I'll have to talk waiting with the Dookies that come ;)

DILL: been both a waiter and a busboy. RE talking to the Dookies out there: you mean they can TALK?? I thought they just transferred. :);)

We should be hearing something soon about Stevens. Where ever she chooses to go, she'll probably want to attend summer school. If so, she'll have to enroll by mid-May.

I'm sure Lady Vol fans are entirely focused right now on poor Candace Parker and the greatest injustice in the history of sports. Still, I hope they will allow themselves to take a brief moment and celebrate the signing of a graduate transfer out of Winthrop College. Moments like this deserve to be celebrated even in the darkest of times.

While no one appreciates snark towards Tennessee as much as I do, I would rather not involve the kids whose only crime is choosing to play for the LVs. Besides, she appears to be a pretty good player, regardless of conference. Heck, last year the UConn men had a 5th year senior from that basketball power Cornell and he was the best player on the team.

She's definitely not transferring within the SEC.. go get her! She'd do well with Geno's coaching..

between you and me..I haven't been all that impressed with any of the bigs I have seen in the past year.....maybe I am expecting too much or just haven't seen enough of them.....no A'ja Wilsons yet that's for sure

Charlie -- do you mean high school bigs? If so, I can understand what you mean. I have not seen that many folks like Ms. Wilson or even Ms. Turner ready to step into a prime-time role. But what's that adage, takes awhile for a tall person to grow into those long limbs? Seems like there's some truth to that because a lot of the bigs I hear mentioned all seem to have the word "developing" and "upside." But that's better than "reached her ceiling!" ;)

Personally, the one true "big" I've seen in New Jersey this year was Raven Farley-Clark, the 6'4" post who has been at several high schools but had a good year with Queen of Peace. She has good hands (didn't see her drop anything), blocks shots well (keeps the ball in court), has a pretty nice jumper from 10 feet and in, shot free throws well (and when under pressure late in games) and has a fairly nice little "swoop" hook, a la Ms. Turner. She's class of 2017. Pretty highly rated in the services, but have not heard her associated with any particular school...could be because she bounces from High School to High School and apparently just changed her AAU Team.

Also saw Kimi Evans, a 6'3" post for St. John's Vianney, the ultimate NJ State Champion. She was the third or even fourth offensive option on a senior-laden team (she's also a 2017er). But she knows what she's doing and has a nice touch. Not sure if she's a UConn-ND player, but a D1er, for sure....

The other "bigs" I saw were 6'0" wings who were playing inside for HS: Faith Masonius, the super frosh from Manasquan, who has an assortment of McHale-like up and unders, but can drill the mid-range jumper; and, Lucy Thomas - a sophomore -- another 6 footer, but playing for St. Rose. She was injured but she's kind of an inside-outside tweener now. But she knows how to score and rebound, so she'll get better.

That's what I got on the "from my eyes in the gym" only.....

Intriguing that you saw Faith Masonius as inside player when one writeup touted her PG skills. That is quite the combination of skills.

Great minds think alike!!...........I've seen Farley-Clark a couple of times, once she was impressive the second time she was nonexistent............Evans is a nice player but I don't think she's a UConn level talent............I was really thinking on a national level with focus on Jade Williams, Charli Collier, Kushkituah, Cooks etc..............have not seen any of them enough to make a strong judgement but from what limited video I have seen in game situations as opposed to those highlight videos...........have not fallen in love with any of their games.............really need Coach Bill or somebody that follows them closely to make a current assessment............ultimately if they are thought to be good enough by Geno and staff or in your case MM that should be good enough for us...............

Faith is pretty talented, particularly for a frosh. I saw a couple of Manasquan games this year. She wasn't playing point guard at Manasquan with Stella Clarke (her cousin, I believe) at that position! (And Stella made 2nd team all -NJ in the Star-Ledger pool.) And if Stella (just have to say that name) did not have the ball, then Dara Mabrey did.

Now, I have not seen Faith (nice name, too) play for an AAU team, but -- at most -- I can see someone gushing that she has "point guard skills..." But, for college, she sure looks like a sure-handed wing who can go inside. (then again, I'm just watching!) Love the pivots and up-and-unders though!

Faith's skill set can be a blessing or a curse...............she can do it all and she is still a baby!!!!!!!!!! Can't even imagine how good she will be if her growth as a player continues on it's present course.................as her "player rep" Tiny Green says, she is the next great NJ Baller!!!!!!

Fun give and take....

- Farley-Clarke: I can see how she disappears. She had a strong first three quarters against Saddle River Day, then just kind of blended into the end line, just when you thought she should scream for the ball.
- Totally agree with Evans. See her at mid-majors.
- ND seems to be focusing a bunch on Danielle Patterson, who I hear is coming out for a visit in September. Have not gotten across the river to see her.
- Masonius is a joy to watch....

What did you think of the frosh guard Asonah Alexander? I'd read about her scoring exploits but was pretty impressed with her calm delivery skills (and her left-handed drives to the hoop) when I saw QoP against Saddle River Day.

I swear I saw DP playing for the NJ Sparks at Boo Williams last week............at least I think that was her..........that pretty much says it all............AA got kind of lost because of all the press Sidor got and all the bad press QOP got for their scheduling.............I know she put up some great numbers but I view her more as a pass first point guard that can shoot while I view MS as a shooting guard that can pass............................

Agree with you on AA and MS...distribute first, then look to score. She was very cool customer when I saw her. Sidor spends energy on the defensive press as well so it was not as if AA was just dribbling up-court by herself. You and I have touched base on the MS Travelling Road Show! :) We'll see how things go next year with so many seniors graduating..wonder if there's anyone in the pipeline there.

Did your daughter play at Boo Williams? If so, how'd things go?

Didn't go to Boo Williams............just watched as many games as I could on the Cube.............my daughter plays softball in the spring and AAU in the fall............her team would get destroyed at that tournament............don't know if you saw what I wrote a while back......her team barely beat the NJ Sparks "C" team last year.......don't think they even have that team anymore...........

I know that the Sparks just lost their best players after a disappointing Boo Williams..............but to show you how deep they were, the best player on my daughter's team who was all county and has 3 D1 offers couldn't make it past their "B" team

Yeah, I know what it's like to play progams like that. My daughter played club lacrosse and the Long Island Yellow Jackets had layers of teams. You'd beat one, peel the onion back and find it's the 5th team at that age group. Most of the kids on their first and second teams are starting at the major D1 lax teams now.
