Transfer Portal Starting to Load

Thing is man, to keep kids now, you have to pay them, and to decide where your ROI is. There is a level of economics at play here that was zero consideration back then. Back then you could stash a kid on the bench and develop, now kids want $$ and playing time or else they fly the coup. Let's take Ross for instance (total hypothetical Tamery) - he's going to be a junior. By junior year, I'd say most kids want to start and get a really confident sense of playing time. Do we give him that just to retain/develop after what we saw this year?

Can someone tell me if Trilly is worth signing back up with? I only found his content to be worthwhile during recruiting cycles.
The thing is, Calhoun wasn’t really known to stash guys on the bench.

He was much more of a throw you out there and you’ll sink or swim kind of coach than a wait your turn on the bench coach.

And again, we are not a program that has problems keeping players we really want to keep. You’re talking about overall problems with college basketball. Not our program.

Every year the shape of how things work changes, we are not immune to losing kids as NIL becomes a larger factor in how kids view opportunity. Hurley also hasn't dealt with as much fringe types the last couple years, he had the right guys lock stock. Calhoun did it because he didn't have options of upgrading in the portal, at least in part of why he had to go "sink or swim". When you're stuck with a kid you recruited, you are forced to find ways to develop them because you don't have other options.

Big, Jr. guard who shoots well and improved year to year.

Question will always be whether Hurley is ok taking from the BE. I do find he prefers kids he's seen up close and faced, but not sure if willing to tap into BE brothers.
Yeah I would take a pass for that reason alone, although I think he's also pretty overrated. His former game, anyway, was just drive and spin in the lane hoping to get to the line. Once people saw him a second time they stopped playing him to shoot from three.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Slick Rick get involved with Hopkins.

I thought it was common knowledge Hopkins was going to Georgetown
The juice that would incite to the PC/Gtown matchups next year. Sorber enlisted an agent, he's gone. Peavy gone. Would not be surprising. If he came back next year and kicked butt with Cooley after derailing PC's last two seasons, the PC fanbase would be out with their slingshots next year during their games.

Wow. Massive hit to PC on that one. If there was one thing English had to pacify after last season, it was keep Bryce. He is officially on the hotseat this upcoming season. Watch Pitino grab him.
Cooley and Georgetown.

That was a fake report about Sorber

I was gonna post a take that we might have to settle for a non big guard because people don't realize how rare quality tall guards actually are. If we can get a Diarra level defender with more offensive/playmaking upside, that'll likely have to be enough.

If Stirtz comes back to college, we're gonna be competing with EVERYONE for his services, before acknowledging his previous allegiance. That goes for anyone of his caliber.
There’s going to be plenty of guys who fit the mold of what UConn is looking for/needs. Some people on here acting like UConn is Boston College or something. They have plenty of resources (money) and a starting job to sell to a point guard. On top of a history of developing players into NBA prospects. It’s an elite coaching staff & school to play for. They will get someone who fits the mold of a “bigger” guard who gives them what they need, because it will be the priority this offseason. Really not concerned about it.

Yeah. The biggest thing besides our history of player development we can sell is playing time.

Exactly. Playing time, money, player development, & a chance of actually winning. That in itself makes UConn a legit destination for a portal player. It’s not about targeting the most “coveted” player, it’s about getting the right one. I look at someone like Sion James as an example & how Duke nailed that evaluation. He wasn’t the top guy, but they found what they needed and it’s worked out huge for them. Imagine if he was on UConn right now.

Oswin is going to enter the portal as well. I would gladly take him.
Where did you see Oswin has put his name in the portal? If UConn does take him, where do you put him and how much playing time does he get with Reed Jr and Reibe?
