Transfer Portal Starting to Load

The last time I laid out a depth chart it was

Solo
Mullins
Ross
Stew
Reed

Nowell
Adams
Abraham
Reibe

With the idea Nowell would get a lot of time as a ballhandler in a Shabazz moving Kemba off ball kind of way with Solo.

Obviously this may not be close to our roster next year. But wouldn’t mind the portal add having a similar role.
Without naming names I would not count on all the players on the above list(s) being members of next year’s team.

.-.
There are gonna be no good coaches left. It's early in nil but look at the casualties and guys who have quit. If these schools drop all this dough from their TV deals, dough they weren't dropping before, and not getting results? Those coaches won't last. IU gave the bank to this team. No win, by Woody. That's gonna happen a lot.
This carousel has a short shelf life. If you think NIL like this is sustainable you need to use your imagination.

I don't think IU is the best example here. Woodson was a baaaad coach. It was inevitable from the first day he was hired that his teams would severely underperform. It was a bad hire and no amount of money can overcome incompetence.

NIL will root out folks who maybe could have faked it...and I don't think that's a bad thing for the sport.

Also, do we as fans have the stamina for even five more years of this? Even if uconn gets a big 12 invite. If this goes on it'll all be less special year by year. Even if you have big money you'll probably have to say goodbye to players you grew to love every, 10 months. If this lasts time will water it all down. And that includes everybody

I don’t know what the IU portal guys are gonna command but I’d be all over them for that reason, de-Woodson them and you might have a stud. I know Hurley likes players he’s seen up close so who knows. These guys have big time college hoops bodies.

True. Woodson probably was on his way out, but i can't imagine that the amount of money they spent with no results didnt cross their minds every day. Do You think schools will continue to play bidding wars for 3 years with no rings and still keep the coach? It's an added layer of pressure that will not be sustainable. This is mile 2 of a marathon. We still have the legs for it, at the moment.

Id love one of the Indiana kids just to give those goof Hoosier fans something else to hate us for when we get more out of them than they did

Btw, congrats on the epic thread. Whats the record for a non OT thread length? The Hurley Kentucky-laker thread was deep

The environment is getting to be quite challenging. Jay Wright retired shortly after a final four appearance, at about five years older than Sean Miller is today. He was pretty clear that the new (NIL) environment turned the job into something he didn't want to deal with.

I knew for a couple of months that there have been lurkers trying to poach players from our roster (Danny's comment on 60 minutes was to call out those trying to steal our roster, not to point out dissatisfied players), I found out this morning that some of the offers a couple players have gotten defy logic.

This isn't for the faint of heart.

Btw, did anybody post this yet? At tonites womens game.

Can't tell if people are just naive or whistling past the graveyard. The world is changing very fast, and it's legitimate to wonder if we have the resources to keep up.

Wow. Imagine you pointing out something that every regular poster on this board is painfully aware of, and pretending you are the only one that knows it. Totally on brand for you.

Is being benched for five minutes enough to piss off a certain ST johns player to enter the portal?

The Doomer-ism on this board is insane.

We have 3 Burger Boys coming in next year, the last two we got (Castle & McNeeley) have both been MAJOR assets.

Duke is one of the favorites for the title this year with a team heavily featuring freshman.

Of course none of the incoming three will be as good as Cooper Flag, but the idea we need to weep having a bare cupboard next year is crazy.

Burger Boys don’t commit somewhere to play 8 MPG, they will be major parts of next year’s team.

No idea - not so much interested in long threads as good discussion. Is there a record out there? I'll happily pass any trophy along to Hans to put on his mantle.

This happens everywhere. Certain SEC and Big 12 programs offer 2-3x the players worth.

For programs like IU, NIL has changed nothing about the $$ on their end. They're used to this. They're not used to other programs being able to do the same.
