Transfer portal - outbound

Randy Edsall purges 13 follows from his Twitter this evening. I’m not nerd enough to try to figure it out. It’s not all transfers - he does drop most recruits that go elsewhere.

We'll absolutely miss Coyle, and maybe 1-2 others, like DeGeorge. It's not great.

But they've graduated and Coyle is gonna get to play somewhere and maybe this is his last chance to win somewhere decent. I don't begrudge him that. Maybe we take a step forward next year, but it's not gonna be the step forward that is gonna help someone like Coyle take that next step.

The rest, well, they're backups, and it sucks and we need depth but not gonna make a huge dent.

If we start losing kids who hate it here so badly they're willing to sit a year, well, holy cow, that's a much more serious problem.

So my feeling is: yes, it stinks, but it makes 100% sense to me. Kids got brought in by old coach, lost for 4 years, and this is their last chance to play in college and they get a free transfer. That's how it goes. Coyle doesn't have 2 years for us to turn it around.

And if Edsall doesn't get us going in the right direction next year, well. He'll also be graduating.

what was coyle best at? I really can’t say myself... the run? Protecting the flat? He never truly got to the next level here because in my opinion he didn’t make that many plays on the ball in the air with pass defenses and picks. He seem to be best as the back stop and containing the run. But really, I’m open to other opinions here.

Coyle is a good athlete. But he didn't make many plays this season. The only highlight was probably that pick 6 in the Illinois game. Often it seemed like he was out of position. He was okay.

Probably broke up more passes than the rest of the DBs combined AND led the team in tackles. But if he decided to move on so be it.

Sad to see Coyle, and Williams leaving. Williams went through a lot with being quarterback, then wide receiver and finally tight end. He endured a lot under Diaco and came out pretty well.
Coyle was one of my favorites after meeting him this past summer. I think he will succeed in whatever he does and I wish him well.

I wish all of them well but this is going to happen to a program that isn't winning.

I will wait to see who comes in via scholarship, portal, and Juco.

I don't think the issue is all these guys transferring - Coyle is the only guy I'll miss. It becomes an Edsall problem if we can't get JUCOs and transfers in that are more talented than the guys leaving. If he can't or refuses to replace the guys leaving, then we have a problem.

For sure. Compared to Paul, King, Wilson, Robinson, Lucien, Bell, etc, Coyle is by far the best player in the secondary. He's probably the best LB too. Really highlights how poor Randy has been recruiting.

We seem to NOT have a team yet. Hard to win when players are fighting the new way. Not advocating for one side or the other, but listening to former players makes it clear why our record is what it is.
You think having a coach taking shots at them in press conferences may have something to do with that?

DeGeorge (somewhat surprising), Migliaccio and Williams not reflected yet.
>>Under the college transfer policy, when a student-athlete informs a school that he wishes to transfer, that institution has two business days to enter that athlete's name into a national transfer portal.<<

New day and I feel better.

What's next?

I think we can afford two more transfers, after that we'll be back to that point where the 25 man cap will prohibit us from getting to a full 85 man roster again next fall.

Seems like the NCAA is destine to modify this 25 man cap, perhaps it happens in spring so that we can backfill as needed in June/July.

Fingers crossed we have no more promising underclassman leave.

Our record is what it is because of the head coach. He gets all the credit for HCRE1.0 and HCREDreamJob1.0 and now for HCRE1.0. He is an authoritarian who runs everything his way, so own it and start executing.

Would be great to have DeGeorge flip/flop and stay. Would be good to have the depth.

Seemed like the staff was headed down a path to bring in at least four HS OLs this cycle, perhaps five and also perhaps one JUCO (just reading the twitter activity), but DeGeorge/Leone/Hubbard departure makes that more difficult as we now need to use perhaps two slots on JUCO/grads. Its harder to make the freshman OL as Rochester/Snively/Graham/Fortin/Reeves w/o DeGeorge staying on board.

PS - I really like Graham he looks country strong/tough while Snively has great wheels.

I'll be curious to see if any guys end up with AAC teams. Particularly in the case where it's a player who played some minutes this year.

Well then let me help make your day sparkle:

Wait - did he just quote himself?

like many good song lyrics this one can mean very different things to multiple people; his staff, the disgruntled outbound, his kids still here and the UConn admin.

Randy’s twitter purge continues - dropped from 504 follows to less than 440 today.

We will see. I suspect next year we will be hearing about our youth and and how players are getting better and half the board will want to give him a 5th year despite another pathetic record.
