As I mentioned previously, there is a trend this year (which did not happen much last year) for kids to enter the portal and return to their school. Why? They might have found out there was tepid demand for their services or both the player and the coaches realized that there was space on the roster that would go unused if the player didn't come back.Yes, we can agree to disagree. No idea what the recruiting facts of top 25 programs has to do with this discussion. What's relevant is that the current structure creates an environment where scholarships go unused which is a shame. Kids are left behind, opportunities squandered. This year UConn will have six slots go unused. Six kids that could be getting a free education.
The system needs a little re-balancing.
Also, we are really talking about grad transfers which might 50% of the kids in the portal. Undergrad transfers, with the exception of the very top players, have always faced an uphill climb getting an FBS scholarship as schools don't want to have to sit a player on scholarship for a year. That is why undergrad transfers at FBS schools typically wind up at FCS or below schools as they can play immediately.
