Traci Carter (Committed to Marquette)

He seems to have a very "TSam-like" jump shot, which I dont think is a good thing. Regardless I hope we get him, or anyone that can play this late in the game.
Except his jump shots actually go in.

I'm not trying to single anyone out but sometimes people have way too lofty of expectations for these recruits. Others have said it perfectly, Carter would be a perfect compliment to Adams. Play 10-15 minutes and allow Adams/TSam to play off ball bc TSam isn't a natural PG. But to say Carter is going to come here and start? Not a chance. Purvis is a good player. Don't know how many times it needs to be said but averaging 10 points a game on 43% shooting isnt bad. Its not his fault people hyped him up like they did. Also, same goes for Enoch. Many believe he will come in and instantly be ready to provide. Maybe...maybe not. Facey was New York player of the year and 4 star top 100 recruit as well. His freshman year (obviously played behind DD and co.) but still when he got minutes it was obvious how raw he was. Let it play out. Stop the lofty expectations. I expect us to be very good next year if we can get Carter bc he fits our system, but don't jump the gun.

Coaches lose their jobs because players make mistakes. An average Purvis outing usually includes stepping out of bounds, at least two wild excursions in the lane that turns into a layups at the other end, two bricked threes early in the shot clock, an attempted steal that turns into an open three, several bricked free throws and at least one walk. And Boat has the ball 90% of the time. This is long before he heats up. Purvis stays in the game because there is no one else to put in there. And he is not even considered when coaches are game planning, much less doubled like Boat. In fact once Boat is gone, Purvis may receive attention and he will be hard pressed t0 score at all without incredible amounts of work over the summer. If this team had a Rip, Ray, Rashad or Mourning, Purvis would get very little playing time. The fact is the Purvis will be competing with Jalen Adams for playing time, not with the point.

His jumper may not be his strength but he has form and actual arc on his ball...TSam has a Michael Kidd-Gilchrist esque jumper with a line drive trajectory. It really is the ugliest looking shot I can remember a "PG" having here

Uh-oh. We're up against NC State. Have we ever beaten them for a recruit? :)

Purvis' shot is uggggg-leeeee. His elbow is out. It's clear on his FTs and you can see it on his jumper too. His hand crosses the ball rather than sitting under it. Very hard to be consistent shooting that way. And the line drive trajectory makes it nearly impossible. MJ is one of the only line drive shooters I can remember to hit a good %. Others have as many off nights as on since the margin for error is so small. I think Purvis (at least his shot) would benefit from losing some shoulder and upper arm muscle mass.

Cautiously optimistic, but liking our chances as of now. Really hope his coach's background doesn't skew him to Louisville.

No Louisville offer yet, so think at this point it's UConn vs. Tennessee. If we lose to on-the-verge-of-sanctions Donnie Tyndall...

Louisville just got a commit from a PG, and a couple of promising games from Snider recently. Tennessee is, as tcf said, facing sanctions.

Bottom line: I am obnoxiously positive about the actual state of things around here, but even I will join the "Oh s***, something's wrong" brigade if we miss on Carter.

KO's got to get the kid to commit on the visit. Fingers crossed.

i mean for freshman coming in, do we need another or no? if we get carter

If we get Carter we'll stop recruiting all other PGs, but still look for one more four- or five-star recruit at the wing or front court.

Stone, Papagiannis, Brown (if he reclassifies) or a late decommit from somebody else.

Preparing to get flamed for this, but I'd be overjoyed if Carter and Brown were all we ended up with. Four 4-star players in one class and no 2/3-star fillers...when was the last time both of those things coincided with each other?

I'm right there with you. Getting three four-star guards in the same class is how you set a team up to be very, very good for a long time.

Let's hope Carter commits and Brown gets through the clearinghouse.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who disagrees with you (although I'm sure there will be) but that would be a nice class. Close to top ten, and most definitely top fifteen, across the board.

If it works out, I'd love to see the faces of all of these "Ollie can't recruit! Gut the staff!" doomsdayers. You can't judge a recruiter based on their misses in the early signing period, much less with 3 players from areas (SC, VA, Philly) where UCONN has not been historically strong in recruiting (albeit with a few exceptions) that the staff simply started working on late. Ollie's not a powerhouse recruiter yet, but he isn't the schmuck the disgruntled customers here have made him out to be.

They would still be there because:

- Enoch is from CT and he is a project who isn't averaging 30-20-10-5 in high school, so he doesn't count and in fact is a negative

- Adams is from Roxbury, grew up a UConn fan and has no left hand, so he doesn't count, but fortunately is only a slight negative

- Brown is Adams cousin and UConn had to have him reclassify so he isn't ranked among 2015 kids, so he doesn't count at all

- Carter is from New Jersey, didn't get a UL offer and is ranked outside the top 100 so he should really count as a 2 star and that's a negative.

Overall this makes the class ranking from 15-20 to about 330...why is our recruiting worse than Vermonts?

God forbid one of those two goes elsewhere, unless you know, UConn gets someone better the fans can complain about.

Let's not forget the constant verbal abuse all of our new recruits will get here once they have one negative performance.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I wouldn't be surprised if that's a fake Instagram account. Kid is more active on Twitter, so it's strange he didn't announce anything there.

Why would 24/7 make a statement about the top 3 then?

Because they didn't investigate it. The name for the Instagram account that made the top 3 is not the same as the one he mentions on his actual Twitter page. There's no reason for one individual to have two Instagram accounts.
