Freshman couldn't leave for the draft? What?

Dude get off your high horse. How can you compare JV when Freshman couldn't leave for the draft and also he had a lot more strength than AB. I'm not saying AB can't get there but if he left today he wouldn't get drafted until late in the second if at all. Now if he works on his weaknesses I can see him going into the late first round. There are a lot of skilled big men outside of UCONN who never get drafted. I hope AB can work hard this off season but he isn't the 100% lock that DHAM will be.

I can think of many lineups on the court next year before Traci Carter's name is in the mix. I get UConn needs a ball handler. My point is that Carter most likely won't see the court here, but will elsewhere.

None of us know how good he is but the reality is that we have one point guard on the roster next year, and he's a freshman.

I totally understand that and agree with it. But we are UConn fans and UConn biased. I am not sure Traci Carter and his people see it that way.

Well that's why they pay the coaching staff the big bucks - to explain the roster situation to recruits and explain how much success we've had with 2 point guards on the floor at the same time.

I definitely prefer Carter over Smith and Hardnett, but regardless, none of these 3 will have that big of an impact next year barring injury. Smith and Hardnett seem like good dribblers/passers, but I think Carter brings a little more offensively in the scoring department. Carter also has better size, which will help him on the defensive end (where he is supposedly relentless).

Simply put: Carter is a guy who you could see breaking out a bit during his junior or senior year, whereas Smith/Hardnett project more as solid bench PGs.

If we miss out on Carter, it's not a big deal, though I'm sure a bunch of us would act as if it is. Either way we'll have a pure PG backup to Adams. We should be a just as worried about getting some post offense going, making defenses work more and providing us with more open looks on the perimeter. Asking Adams to fill Boat's shoes is ridiculous, so Facey, Brimah, Enoch and Lubin will need to produce offensively.

Exactly. Eventually he will. He may start day 1 somewhere else. I guess I am anticipating a board meltdown when Ollie "gets beat out" again by a lesser school. The fact is, for Traci Carter, there are better fits elsewhere.

Not really. We can't go in to the season with Samuel as our 2nd best ball handler and Carter would have a chance to be better for that spot, if just that. Not saying he's a must, just saying another option is because TSam is not the answer.

Exactly. If Carter can come in and provide 10-15 minutes of just being a point guard and running an offense to give Adams a break this also puts TSam back in his best role: off the ball guard, attack with what is given, and a great on the ball defender for these 10-15 minutes. He shouldn't have to run our offense.

You are way off base. Traci Carter is more skilled than TS and has a better shot when both were coming into college. He is also a true point guard which TSAM isn't. JA has the skills to play off the ball. Traci Carter definitely has a place on this team at least as the first guard off the bench. He will get time here and I'm sure KO is scared that he is losing his best ball handler and replacing him with a freshman combo guard and nothing else. Do you really have confidence in TSAM or RP next year? I don't especially handling pressure and creating offense. If we don't get him it isn't the end of the world but it would definitely create a very fine line whether we can suceed next year unless are bigs really develop next year and allow for an outlet to the guards.

TSam easily could be the answer if he continues to improve.

Continues to improve? Where?

He's all over the place as far as consistency and the only reason for this is he's playing too much. His game is taylor made to be the 4th guard on a real good team, maybe 3rd at best. He's decent on D, decent only with the ball, can occasionally get to the hole and can't shoot. 20-25 minutes is too much for his ability. While he's done a respectable job considering who our team is this year, his minutes are also kind of why we are who we are. Teams pretty much dismiss him on the offensive end and his man is shadowing to the Boat side of things. Can't play like that.

He is what he is, we need at least an upgrade handling it no doubt.

Jake Voskhul was the 4th pick in the 2nd round after his senior year, and Brimah is a better prospect than he was, hell yes I expect him to be drafted. And you "UConn in a bubble" jackwagons gotta knock it off with the "UConn fans overrate Brimah" nonsense that ya'll spew, if anything its the other away around. All I read on here is dude's that don't even watch other college games outside of UConn, let alone the NBA talk about how Brimah isn't much of an NBA prospect, yet the draft sites and guys like Fraschilla and Veccine who watch a ton more hoops than you and the rest of your lot do say the exact opposite. I know what I see in Brimah, and what kind of growth I expect him to have actually working on his game and body without rehab hindering that, and yes, he will be a lock to be drafted.
You're letting some posters get to you. Try to stay above the fray. You're one of the posters several of us admire regarding assessments about players and teams.

Of course this is easier said then done. If I had half the broad knowledge you possess and half the ability to assess the game the way you and several others possess I'd primarily focus it on rebutting arguments. And if a poster flames on me, because he sees things differently, so be it.

Anyways, thought I'd remind you that your information is admired. Won't think any less of you if you feel the need to go off on posters, not that my 2 cents on this matter is worth a dime.

I don't even know what most of this means, so I guess once again someone has had poor reading comprehension regarding your posts. You don't think players have the ability to improve as they mature and progress through our program?

Just can't picture enough improvement. His shot is terrible. And I just can't see that it will improve enough. That puts added pressure on Jalen because it's virtually 5 on 4 when we are on offense. RP isn't a trusted ball handler or decision maker. Basketball IQ is hard to learn. He's been playing his way his whole life. That leaves Jalen and Dham as our primary ball handlers. Some are already claiming Jalen as our savior. When has a freshmen come to UConn and be a Savior? I'm sure I'll get a response but I don't see Jalen being better than Boat is now.

Sorry you can't read can't help you there 7774. But he is not any better than the kid we saw end of last year and sometimes not as good. He's limited anyway, he's not a kid you want as a primary minutes taker or ball handler at UConn, sorry as it's easy to see. You do want kids like him, Beverly, Austrie to take the key bench minutes though and there's nothing wrong with being that guy.

I'm not saying that it's some lock that TSam will become an amazing player, but players and teams improve all the time in ways that are hard to picture. Did you accurately picture Kemba's improvement from his sophomore to junior year? Did you picture Giffey shooting 50% from 3 as a senior after shooting 29% a a junior? Or what Boat's defense was going to be in the NCAA tournament?

It's college sports, unexpected improvement is not a rarity.

Oh, I know you can't help me there. You can't even post a coherent thought most of the time. You are really good at blaming other people for not understanding your drivel though.

And again, you don't know jack about how the last 2 years of TSam's career are going to play out.

I couldnt agree more. To say that Traci Carter won't get minutes at Uconn next year is crazy. I seen him at HoopHall and wish he was on our roster now. By far would be the best pure PG on the roster. Right now he is better than TSam. TSam can't shoot, can barely dribble or pass. He plays pretty good defense but def not great defense as some have said.

Will TSam get better? maybe but I doubt it would be drastic enough to being a lead guard. Hes a bench guy ,maybe 10 minutes a game to give a spark.

If Carter comes to UConn I would bet my life that when it comes to crunch time the last 10 minutes of a game Carter will be on the court with Adams, Purvis/Omar/Tsam, Dham and Brimah.

I agree with Mau on this one. We need another handler on the team.

Adams is a great prospect, but none of us know how well he will handle playing point as a freshman. Hopefully he plays great, but it's no guarantee.

We've seen two years of TSam and while he definitely has a role on the team as a high energy guy off the bench I personally don't see him evolving into a lead guard to run the point full time. In my opinion we should bring in another ball handler to help run the team.

Kemba had the form/release to have a good jump shot. GIF always had good form but just didn't have confidence. I give you Boat and D even though great D has been a Uconn trademark.

Tsams' form is horrible. Maybe he could be a lock down defender. Maybe

Good news for me is your the only one who doesn't get it. Your posts are so full of intelligent thoughts I am in awe of you!

The other good news is I don't know jack about how his 2 years will play out for sure you are correct. Bad news for you is you're clueless and the way you handled this also makes you look like a dick!

LOL. Yes, I'm sure before the 2010-11 season you were saying Kemba was going to put up the greatest individual season at UCONN ever because he had really good form. I'm sure before last year you were saying "you know, Giffey shot below 30% from 3 as a junior, but he has good form and he's going to shoot 50% this year". Get real.

No I wasn't saying that but I knew there would be improvement. And I did think that Kemba was going to blow up his Junior year after his Sophomore year. And I did think Gif would be a very good set shot shooter his sr year. Not great for Gif but really good.
