Tomorrow’s AP Ranking

You've got Duke moving up, lolz.
I did, and added something about why I placed them there before I read your reply. There's often a Duke bias to the voters. In my added comments, I did mention that they might drop them to number six just above UConn. Let's see what happens. Placing them there maybe does make more sense.

For what it’s worth, Gary Parrish of CBS (love the EOCBB Podcast), has us #3 in his Top 25 and 1 which I always find pretty fair.

Why do you keep repeating yourself? After saying you don’t care what people think
What are you triggered about? I only posted in this thread once so I don’t keep posting the same thing. My post was realistic and innocuous. We hadn’t been playing well for a while, then we played well against bad Xavier and Creighton teams. Now we lost to a good team. I wouldn’t say that makes us look like a 1 Seed at the moment and as such, I won’t be surprised if we aren’t ranked like one.
When we win by 20+ it’s “well those teams aren’t very good”

When we win a close game it’s “well those teams aren’t very good”

When Iowa State beats Baylor by 3 or Michigan State loses to Minnesota it’s “well those are great conferences”

Yeah. I’m not one of those people. I love the Big East. I believe the coaches in this league know how to play us and the refs let them do it.

It’s simple. Solo and Tarris aren’t playing like we need them to. I believe they are both capable and I have high hopes for the rest of the season, but they need to heal or improve or whatever. I’m not sure why they aren’t themselves.

Triggered? I am enjoying my Sunday. You have repeated this same sentiment in multiple threads over the last 2 days. Yet you say you don’t care what anyone thinks. I’m just asking a question lol. It’s not just you. But hey, I’ll stay my “triggered” self over here sipping this espresso martini :)

I love the hilarity of this thread…..”let’s all guess where we will be ranked. Because it’s SO important in February”

Lolol
Just fun and interesting, relax

Kenpom has SJU at #16, I think they drop down no further than 5 or 6. Illinois and Duke both lost yesterday.

.-.
I think the voters have been looking for any reason to drop us. It was hard to before because we were still winning, but now they can feel more justified in penalizing us for our "closer and more difficult than they should've been" wins against weaker BE teams. I wouldn't be surprised to see us at #7.
Somewhat surprised that you, of all people, didn't put them at 8th!

I don't understand why so many here get worked up about our ranking? Did it matter much in the past?
No.
What matters most is how we're playing in early March and I'm hoping like everyone that we'll be on our game.

I wouldn’t be shocked if UConn lands around 7 or 8 in the next AP poll—even though in my head, 5 feels about right. The polls haven’t exactly been kind to us before, remember that 18-game win streak? Yeah, apparently that still didn’t move the needle much. So why would now be any different? Still, the stretch run isn’t exactly a stroll in the park. Villanova, St. John’s, Seton Hall, and then whoever pops up in the Big East tournament—that’s a pretty serious lineup. Those games deserve full focus, and even the “should win” ones can’t be treated like freebies. Bottom line: let the rankings chatter happen. I'm not going to call out anyone on here but since we lost to St Johns we are not a strong or a very good team, blah, blah, blah. This team controls its own destiny. Take care of the tough ones, respect the rest, and suddenly that whole “are they Final Four good?” debate starts getting a whole lot quieter.

Of 3, 4, 5, 6 all losing in the week we have:

3: UConn loses by 9 at #22 St. John's who will surely rise this week
4: Duke loses by 3 at #14 UNC
5: Illinois loses in OT by 3 at #10 Michigan St
6: Gonzaga loses by 7 at unranked Portland who is nowhere close to being ranked.

Ranking the losses by best to worst:
4, 5, 3, 6

Now due to 7 Iowa State and 8 Houston winning it could reshuffle to:

1. Arizona - 0 losses
2. Michigan - 1 loss
3. Duke - 2 losses
4. Iowa St - 2 losses
5. UConn - 2 losses
6. Houston - 2 losses
7. Illinois - 4 losses
8. Michigan St - 4 losses
9. Gonzaga -1 loss
10. Kansas - 5 losses
I’d be pretty surprised if the voters keep us ahead of Houston

Two threads—on that subject matter. Maybe you should skip the espresso in your martini.

5-7 is the correct range but 8-11 is the realistic range seeing we "only play in the Big East."

Voters won't remember that St. John's was #5 to begin the year.

1. Arizona - 0 losses
2. Michigan - 1 loss
3. Duke - 2 losses
4. UConn - 2 losses
5. Iowa St - 2 losses
6. Houston - 2 losses
Keep dreaming my friend.

It will be a cement mixer over the next 2 weeks as the ranked head to heads continue.

UConn just needs to foul less, get the ball in, shoot some free throws and practice the weave and they will rack up the wins

Before these rankings come out i realize I really only want a 1-3 seed in the tourney. AP position dont matter to me as long as we start to see a team that can go toe to toe with the top 5 teams in the country. This is the time of year where that starts to happen.

I'd be surprised if we drop lower than 5, and my guess is 4. There was a huge gap between Duke and Illinois at 4 and 5 and they both lost as well. I expect UConn, Duke, Iowa State to be 3,4,5 and all within about 15-20 points of each other in some order

For a reference, F68 has UConn at 4. Borges moved Houston to 3, kept Duke at 4 and UConn to 5 based on the eye test with Duke.

St. John's is definitely moving up, probably a few spots. That was their A game right there and they beat us fair and square. Cannot wait until the 25th in Hartford so we can put some revenge on them.

I think #7 or #8 would be about where belong. St John's is not a very good team, but upsets do happen. Also, the strength (or lack of strength) of the Big East Conference as a whole will result in UConn dropping down more in the rankings which is fair.
St. John’s is good. They should be # 16 or 17.
