Really hard to predict with 3-6 all losing this week and 8,9,10 beating ranked teams.
Maybe goes as follows:
1. Arizona
2. Michigan
3. Duke
4. Iowa St
5. Houston
6. Nebraska
7. UConn
8. Illinois
9. Michigan St
10 Kansas
11. Gonzaga
I think voters are going to drop UConn below all the top 2 loss teams sans Gonzaga that suffered a brutal loss. All the other two loss teams had at least one really good win, except for Iowa State. Even though Michigan State just beat Illinois on their own home court in OT, they lost in Minnesota earlier in the week. Up until that OT loss, Illinois was on a pretty good run. Most of their losses came earlier in the season , all to highly ranked teams. Iowa State in Houston two very scrappy and battle tested teams will likely move up to the three and four spot. I wouldn't be too surprised if they flip those two since Houston's two losses are better than Iowa State's, though their win this week over BYU is losing its value as the Cougars have looked quite flawed losing 4 in a row and 5 out of their last 6.
I'd be remiss to mention that the one team I'm not sure where they will slot, Duke. They always seem to get preferential treatment so I wouldn't be surprised if moved up to number three even though they lost on a buzzer beater on the ranked Tar Heels home court. I wouldn't be surprised if they drop them just above UConn to number six. That would be the only change I would make to my prediction above.
Maybe we drop 6, just ahead of the two loss Nebraska team, but those are both recent losses by three at Michigan and by 1 at home against Illinois.
I feel that UConn is evenly grouped the teams I listed above 3 through 10 the way they are currently playing. I like our chances on a neutral Court against any of those teams without Big East refs officiating the game. I like UConn ahead of those if they can play to their potential and fix a few things that are a out of sorts, such as for free throw shooting, rebounding issues, missing too many makeable shots, turnover prone against high pressure teams, and stretches where they struggle to stop penetration that results in either easy baskets or excessive fouling. I believe they have the talent to fix most if not all of those areas.
I'm very interested to find out how the voters slot the top 10 to 12 teams this coming Monday. As some have pointed out , I think UConn's struggles during January against unranked Big East teams has given some voters a reason to drop UConn once they finally lose their second game, I'll be it against a pretty tough ranked and physical St John's team on their home court at Madison Square Garden that was filled this time with many more Johnny's fans than UConn's.
