Made no sense firing Thibodeau. He got them further than they have in decades. It almost seems he got their expectations too high. If they lost in the first round he would probably still have a job. They finished way ahead of their talent level.
Knicks fans are delusional that’s why

I'm still worried but early betting odds dont have hurley as a real possibility and other than the post a lot of list have 5 or 6 guys and don't include Hurley at all
Those odds are usually fake/marketing ploys to reel consumers into their platform. Just like last year when Dan Hurley was -500 to be Lakers coach. Those odds never even existed on any platform, not for a second lol

There's a ceiling with Thibs, it's been that way since he was coaching the Bulls.

They were playing great in the playoffs last season until injuries finally did them in. I think they were very talented this season. Brunson is a star, KAT is just below that, two really good 2 way wings, Hart is a junkyard dog. He never develops a bench and it always catches up to him.

And it wasn't Thibs that traded away 6 unprotected picks within the last year, including 5 for Mikal Bridges. There is a hard ceiling with Thibs, but he just got the NYK to game 6 of the ECF.

They are too small at the 1-3, defensively they are not strong, except for Hart, but he s 6-4.

FWIW

Before 2023 the media (and many BYers) said he couldn't win with his schtick.

I don't think it's the wrong analysis with respect to the NBA but I don't think for a second it would factor into his consideration.

Why? Winning the Knicks their 1st Title in over 50 years would be his dream job & scenario. If he is offered the job, I would be very surprised if he turns it down...
Take your UConn goggles off for a minute. Why did the Knicks, who have a two year window to win, do this now? Its quite simple. Mike Malone. He has title pedigree and local flavor. He is available now and wont be in a year. Why would the Knicks, who want to win now with two guys who are defensive liabilities, hire a college coach with no NBA experience? How does the timing make any sesne for Hurley? It doesn't and this board shouldn't be overly dramatic about it.

And why would Danny take this job right now? He has a top 5 team returning and a Knicks team who probably reached max potential. Where is the real upside? There is a greater chance he doesn't match this season, the Knicks fans revolt, and then what? The window to win is now. You dont bring in Danny in this situation.

They were indisputably less than the sum of their parts.

Thibs has been the same old coach for 20 years. His flaws are fatal and put a ceiling on any team he coaches.

I can't remember a Knicks regime making such a shrewd move. They know they can't go any further with Thibs. This took major stones and I'm wildly impressed that they did this.

I don't get the level of concern but then I again I also believe that last year's Lakers fiasco was a charade(as did alot of NBA media).

Rick Carlisle > Tom Thibodeau. Thats why the Knicks lost. Its also why they fired their coach.

I've always felt that if Hurley was gonna jump to the NBA he would prefer to take over more of a re-building organization where he can wipe the slate clean and steadily build his own program over time like he has everywhere else. I'm also not sure he wants to jump into the Knicks circus where he's the leading topic on First Take every other day. Brooklyn might be a better one to watch if that opens up.
BK has zero aura. MSG is the Mecca. Hurley seems to like attention ;).

No.

They lost because the Pacers are better than the Knicks.
and the Pacers coach is better than the Knicks coach. Did you not see Game 1? Changed entire trajectory of series.

To the idiot, "Dan In Shelton" that just called Evan & Tiki on WFAN saying he's a huge UConn fan but how can Dan Hurley not be the top choice for the Knicks, goes on a promotional diatribe: If you're a poster here and that was you, you're not a UConn fan.

So are the Knicks going to hire the Pacers’ coach?

No. So what’s your point?

There’s no coach that was going magically elevate the Knicks over the Pacers. Thibs basically did that against the Celtics, but the Pacers were simply too good.

This was an idiotic move by Dolan, but it’s Dolan, so it was expected.

Game 1 decided the series. It was the biggest collapse in playoff history and cost Thibs his job.

Carlisle>Thibs

It was super weird that the Knicks starting 5 routinely dug holes in playoff games and that their rotation expanded in the playoffs compared to regular season. I think these 2 things begged the question that the coach is at fault. Given how close they got to the finals I think and hope that they won't look at college coaches. That would be a 2yr learning process and the east is winnable now.
