Don’t forget the Karaban effect. He likely came back for his last year because of Hurley and the chance to win another championship. I don’t think Hurley would make this move now.
There's always someone that gets left behind if a coach leaves. Not saying he'd take it, but he wants the job, this won't hold him back

I’ll admit that I don’t get why on earth you’d want to be an NBA coach other than money. Can you literally “coach” NBA players? How do you get them to defend for the 1,000 regular season games. How do you run complicated plays at half speed? When someone millionaire is slowly jogging back on défense how do you say “get the back on défense”! Does one bad call mean anything? A Danny Hurley that can’t be bothered to get a technical is not a Danny Hurley.

False. It was one of the reasons he stayed last time.
What happened last time doesn't mean it couldn't happen this time, unless your position is that he'll never leave someone behind.

You don’t move on from Thibideau to hand the reins to a college coach with no NBA experience. Danny is a great coach but the Knicks just made the conf finals. You only make this move if you feel someone else can win the whole thing. Malone is the guy.
Hope they've been talking to Malone since Denver canned him. He makes a lot of sense.

I've always felt that if Hurley was gonna jump to the NBA he would prefer to take over more of a re-building organization where he can wipe the slate clean and steadily build his own program over time like he has everywhere else. I'm also not sure he wants to jump into the Knicks circus where he's the leading topic on First Take every other day. Brooklyn might be a better one to watch if that opens up.
Personally I think he would have the same criteria as Jay Wright, only a franchise in the DC to Boston metroplex and no consideration for a franchise that is setup for failure.

The former leaves the Wizards, 76ers, Knicks, Nets and Celtics as the only options.

The latter removes the Wizards and Nets (for the time being), the Celts won't be changing coaches and it's debatable how attractive the 76ers job is viewed by either.

My guess is that if the Knicks are willing to go the route of hiring someone who excelled as a college coach but has zero NBA coaching experience, Jay would be well ahead of Danny.

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference."

I serenely accept that I have no part in the Knicks coaching hire. The greater challenge is accepting that I have no ability to impact the energy of this forum beyond this single simple reminder.

I think Andrea rates jobs by proximity to North NJ. LA? Terrible. The Knicks? We have reason to be concerned.

If he's gone I think they give Luke the job in Storrs.
Leaping Luke over Kimani would be a wild move.

I think Danny has to worry about Queen Andrea more. She wasn’t too happy last year this time.
Unfortunately for us,if it came down to it the Knick job would be one that she would be in favor of him taking.

I don't think the Hurleys (Andrea and Dan) go now. Maybe the next time the Knicks job opens up. It's on the heels of them realizing the NBA isn't a good match for Dan, nor their lifestyle here in CT... The NBA road warriorship sort of season isn't fun.

Jay Wright makes more sense. Three core players are from Villanova and were coached by him, which includes Jalen Brunson, the #1 option and alpha dog. The Knicks have have gone through at least 2 decades trying in vain to find that alpha dog that can lead this their team in the playoffs and they finally got him in Jalen Brunson-he isn't going anywhere (and they signed him to a long term contract last year).

Hurley is an elite level coach and a great coach that is self-aware and intelligent and would realize he has to change some behavioral habits and how he runs his practices if he would make the jump to the NBA. Thibs was known for running his players into the ground in practice and Hurley's practices are even more demanding than Thibs' practices.

Jay Wright or Mike Malone are the best choices for the NY Knicks.

He just went through all the “should I stay or should I go drama” last summer. If it was me I wouldn’t want to go through that again so soon and probably his wife doesn’t want to deal with that stress again so soon either. The knicks also have a very viable alternative in Jay Wright who has no reason not to take the job and would be reunited with several former players. If we are going to dodge this bullet, this might actually be the perfect time for this to happen.

Made no sense firing Thibodeau. He got them further than they have in decades. It almost seems he got their expectations too high. If they lost in the first round he would probably still have a job. They finished way ahead of their talent level.
