I’ve wondered that for a long time. Let’s just say that while Ajax may have a slight edge in vertical, Sticks had probably 40 pounds on him — that’s impressive as hell.Who got up higher? Sticks or Ajax?
Andre has shooting skills which he uses but he elects to get others involved, as an example he‘s not a breakdown end of the time clock shooter but he drops it off for a dunk usually. Higher %.
Andre - shooting skills ? have you any watched games over the past two years - are you shocked that no team has chosen to guard him ? valuable guy, for sure, and great defender rebounder, transition guy, and finisher but has among the most flawed shooting mechanics of any elite athlete I've ever seen. Hard to see more than a cup of coffee in the NBA whout drastic improvementAndre has shooting skills which he uses but he elects to get others involved, as an example he‘s not a breakdown end of the time clock shooter but he drops it off for a dunk usually. Yes his defense is probably the best in the country. Should be Big East DPOY. But if he wants to play at the next level it’s not acceptable to be that bad at going to the rim still.“It’s actually almost not okay.” Christ this place is something else.
I guess I’ll zag here and say kudos to Andre for erasing yet another lottery pick and hitting the biggest shot of the game.
Why does everyone get their panties in a bunch when someone points out his obvious flaws. That doesn’t mean he’s not a great player with obvious strengths. The two can coexist.Andre Jackson is the straw that stirs the drink. Anyone saying negative about him is legitimately insane. The team finds their energy and swag from Andre. He is a legitimate wild card and puts the fear of God in teams.
Probably because it’s nothing new - it’s been beaten to death and well into the afterlife. Why does everyone get their panties in a bunch when someone points out his obvious flaws. That doesn’t mean he’s not a great player with obvious strengths. The two can coexist.
Andre is a great player. He (and the team) has the potential to be even better by addressing some basic things.
He makes hard things look easy, and easy things look hard.
Because it’s like attacking Clingan for not shooting 3s. Or Diarra for not driving more. You’re piling on a kid who’s a huge part of the countries best team for not being who you think he should be. Why don’t we just start threads on every players weaknesses then? Why only pile on Andres flaws? Why does everyone get their panties in a bunch when someone points out his obvious flaws. Not everyone has the potential, experience, and responsibility Andre has. We all want the best for not only the team, but for him especially.Because it’s like attacking Clingan for not shooting 3s. It’s usually the manner in which it’s said. Not everyone has the potential, experience, and responsibility Andre has. We all want the best for not only the team, but for him especially.
Personally I would like to see him win a championship and then have a long successful career in the NBA. Most guys outside of Hawkins and Clingan probably don’t have a high chance of doing the NBA part on this team. If Andre wants that to happen then yeah, he needs to fix a very obvious flaw that shouldn’t be that hard to fix.
It’s a very fair thing to say and if his family is reading this, we love your son and want him to dunk on more people so he can make a lot of money in the future! Lol
Idk man. This is year 3 and he still struggles to drive in the paint. I think he’s put a lot of energy towards his jumpshot and it’s been working because it’s much better than his freshman year. But I’ve been hammering him getting better on drives since last year and I don’t think we’ve seen any improvement there. Wish he put as much energy there as he does his jumpshot. Think this Nova game just triggered those same feelings as far as his ability to drive to talk about them more. It’s usually the manner in which it’s said.
At some point players are just who they are. Off-season for adding skills, in season is to refine things.
Dre’s skills are well documented. His areas of opportunity are well documented. I’m sure he and those around him are aware of his limitations & his ceiling, as well as the things that he needs to address to get put in the best position professionally.
Andre can’t shoot & Donovan & Sanogo should play together are the dumbest & most consistently re-posted threads on the BY. The fact people keep making them is baffling. There hasn’t been new information to warrant continuing to recycle these topics. (Not direct at you HuskyWarrior, more just a general statement. Although just “fixing” his shooting I think is tremendously more complex of an issue than how you characterize it)
Something I’m hoping Andre puts more focus into.
But he doesn’t though. That’s what our eyes are telling us. If they are aware of it and actively aren’t pushing him to fix it then they aren’t putting focus on it. This reminds me of Rudy Gay so much. We were an amazing team in 06 too. It didn’t keep Calhoun from constantly ripping into a guy who was an All American the year before and the best player on the team.I think this captures what annoys me the most about these type of posts - and would annoy me even if this team wasn’t off to the best start of any UConn team in more than 20 years and you weren’t talking about arguably the single most important member of that team - it’s the idea that some of you actually seem to think there are things you’re aware of that the players and, more importantly, the coaches, haven’t “put focus into.”
If we could get only get word to the coaching staff that Andre should start taking guys off the dribble and dunking on them we’d really be cooking with gas …

Guys with his skillset can’t shoot all the time and are successful. But they all can get to the rim for the most part. Scottie Barnes was a lottery pick and didn’t take a three, Ben Simmons became an All Star without one. But they all can use their athleticism to get to the rim at will. Something I’m hoping Andre puts more focus into.
I don't think it has to do with comfort in finishing, success of his floater or a killer instinct (out lack there of) to dunk on people.
I listened to this podcast 1 on 1 with Andre and you'll hear it directly in his own words. I don't think that's who he envisions himself to be. I've given up getting frustrated that he doesn't play the way I'd want him to play. He plays the game the way he enjoys it most. Hurley challenged him to be a productive player for UConn last year, and for the most part he has been.
He's a super utility glue guy, focused on defense and passing.
Actually, reading that article gave me the impression AJax is far more Jeff Green than Gay.But he doesn’t though. That’s what our eyes are telling us. "I feel like I can fit wherever the team needs me. I can play the 1 thru 4 on both sides on the ball"@bigknight3 from what I heard he wants to be like Draymond Green and Marcus Smart. Both were great scorers in college though. Smart was NPOY or in the running for it with Bazz. So even if that’s what he envisions himself as he’s not there yet. He has all the intangibles and tools to be one of those guys or a Caron, Meka, Kemba, etc kind of guy for us too.
Dear lordAndre Jackson is our Captain and I love so much about him but he does need to understand more about true leadership.
His love for the team and the uniform is clear.
His willingness to take it all on his shoulders, crash, dive, bring it up, facilitate, check.
His love for rubbing the other team's nose in his achievements is disgraceful and immature. Twice now. Bad mojo.
Energy in warm-ups was sky-high led by AJ and that's always a problem in my estimation. It should be anxious, thoughtful and restrained, especially in big games. Everyone was over-excited, jittery and jumpy - that's a lot of wasted energy. I've seen it countless times. They came out flat and flat-footed. Second half also began with them looking sapped. Obviously, we subbed a lot and got jolts of adrenaline to lead us out of the funk.
Andre has some magnificence to him and being Captain, I'm sure he'll eventually get what it really takes to lead the team first, each player second and himself last.
I don’t think anyone is asking him to be a 16 PPG scorer or be like KD. Just be proficient enough to be a threat to score when a team gives you an easy basket."I feel like I can fit wherever the team needs me. I can play the 1 thru 4 on both sides on the ball"
"It's just who I am. I love basketball. Whatever I have to do to win. I look up to Marcus Smart and Draymond green more than Kevin Durant."
"That's more of who I am. I just accept my role and accept who I am as as player."
"It's about accepting who you. If I try to be something I'm not, I'm not going to be an effective player."
When he talks about his role he talks about passing, rebounding, setting screens and defense. Offense wasn't a focus at any point during the interview. So bringing up the scoring of the players that he mentioned misses the point. That's not his focus. He specifically mentioned Smart and Green (defense and utility) vs Durant (offense).
This is on my Rushmore of worst posts of the season.Andre Jackson is our Captain and I love so much about him but he does need to understand more about true leadership.
