'cone is getting senile. on the intro to pivaretta or whatever, his last season data is on the screen as cone excitedly says 'pretty good!' the data was a sea of nothing.'

so we get down to the game (they should have helicopter service, where they drop u off in the field, open a little door to the seats, and u sit down. no ground transportation component), and settle in among some suits, and a few sox fans. now, i learn pivaretta or whatever is the sox pitcher, and i start in the sox people 'guarantee win, this guy stinks, game over.'
sox guy gets bit cranky, loses the joviality as the runs pile up, and starts to get a bit southie as he drove all day, and will soon be driving back. now that i think of it, guy was sounding a bit like that 'auggie in paradise' tblog.

pivvys line.
pals say 'how aboot tomorrow?' this time i learn gerrit is pitching, the leading pitcher in mlb the past five years for both k's and wins, and say 'we're in.' big fun, except that getting there part. it always feels like a seinfeld episode. and the paying for stuff part, that stinks too.
i like watching them on the tube.

OK so now that King is now out for the season, acquiring a high-leverage right-handed reliever has changed from would be nice to absolutely needed.

With the uncertainty around Judge, this has to be the season Cashman has to have a "let's win the World Series, for real, this season" trade deadline.

That doesn't necessarily mean acquire Juan Soto, but at the least the Yankees should acquire:

A) A starting pitcher of the Luis Castillo caliber
B) A high-leverage right-handed reliever. (maybe a David Robertson reprise?)
C) An outfielder with good contact rate.

I have a good track record of big Yankees trades happening while I'm on vacation:
  • The Sanchez/Urshela for Donaldson/IKF trade while visiting in-laws in Arizona
  • The Clay Holmes and the Joey Gallo trade while spending anniversary in Puerto Rico
  • The Torres/Chapman trade when I was in Rhode Island
  • The Chapman from Reds trade when I was in upstate New York
I'm heading to Cape Cod on Monday and coming back on Wednesday, so I fully expect, no, I predict a big trade will happen while I'm in Cape Cod.

Castillo is an absolute must, then you can figure out the pen. Losing King absolutely sucks thanks Chapman. The setup man will have to be between Peralta, Lasagna, Schmidt, Rich Rodrodriguez, you can have a great pen but using 6 guys out of the pen is just not a recipe for success in the postseason. Last WS team with a great pen were the Royals I believe.

If there’s an opportunity to get Soto you gotta do it, the losses you get in a trade for him is worth the return. He’s 23 much younger then Stanton and Judge, you have him for at least 3 post season runs. An insurance policy if Judge leaves and yes you could still keep Judge. Chapman and Britton are off the books after this year, Donaldson and Hicks soon after. That clears up room to keep both Judge and Soto long term. He wants a huge contract being a Boras client ok fine let him prove that in the Bronx for 3 years.

Looks like you need to go on more vacations btw.

I get that you're excited, but IMO, acquiring Soto means not extending Judge.

I'd much rather extend Judge and then use the trade chips to acquire other talent, then use all of our trade chips to acquire Soto and then risk losing Judge.

When all is said and done, I'd like to keep one of the top shortstop prospects and I personally think Dominguez is overrated.

Here my prediction of what the Yankees will do:
  • Acquire Luis Castillo for Peraza, Waldichuk and maybe another prospect
  • Acquire an outfielder with multiple years of control for Dominguez and another prospect or two. Maybe Laureano, Reynolds or Reynolds, but I don't think either is a good enough outfield to part with Dominguez. I'd trade Dominguez for Ian Happ.
  • Acquire David Robinson
  • Acquire a depth starter like Mike Minor

Tough blow losing King for the season. I think Cashman's next move will be predicated on whether the organization thinks that Chapman and Loisaga will be able to shake off the rust and get back to pitching at a high level. Right now, I can't see Boone feeling comfortable pitching either guy in a high leverage situation. But we've seen that both have the goods to be able to contribute.

You can afford Judge and Dominguez long term with money coming off the books in the upcoming years don’t let Yankees and their own media tell ya that they can’t afford it.

I don’t think he’s getting dealt btw until the offseason. Yankees do have an advantage btw with their farm system and the Mets being in the same division if Soto is hell bent in being a Yankee all the more leverage in Yankees favor.

I would be more then fine with the moves you listed. I would be against trading Dominguez for Happ for Soto yes, if it meant trading Dominguez and keeping Volpe then fine, I do think Dominguez is overrated as well.

Yeah, that's pretty accurate.

Cashman has some work to do.
Unless they can trade Gallo, Donaldson, Chapman and Hicks for him (ha ha) they need to forget about Soto and focus on pitching at the deadline.

I am still furious that we added Donaldson right before the season started. I imagine that if we added the $50 million Donaldson is guaranteed to the offer to Judge before opening day, Judge would be locked up for the next seven years and we could focus on other things.

Yes, pitching is the vast majority of what it takes to win (especially in the postseason) and even with the number of arms we have in the bullpen it takes a few starters who can consistently provide quality starts and eat innings to win. We've burnt out our bullpen before August 1 and we have maybe two starters we can count on.

I also need to add the number of barely over .200 hitters in our lineup. I don't care what the record is at the moment, we are no better than a tossup in any round of the playoffs the way we are currently built.

I think that taking on Donaldson was part of the cost of dumping Gary Sanchez and picking up IKF.

Are you claiming that Sanchez and Urshella wouldn't have been sufficient to land Kiner-Falefa and Rortvedt?

I have my suspicions on why they took Donaldson's contract off Minnesota's hands.

This team just doesn’t look right. Having Gallo on the roster and Andujar in AAA still is downright criminal. Andujar and Florial would give this team a lift even if it were just a small sample size.

Getting Castillo is an absolute must, I know Soto getting dealt to the Yankees won’t happen but he is more of a need then people think. I wouldn’t be worried about him disrupting chemistry because the Yankees are not a championship team right now, they need a shakeup.

Team is front runner and isn’t clutch get an early lead then can’t get the shutdown inning and doesn’t tack on that extra run or 2 that’s what clutch teams do.

Last night IKF gets picked off with runners on 1st and 3rd can’t have that, getting caught stealing you live with that. German vs Scherzer tonight lol.

Content with this trade.

Prior to the trade, Sikkema and Way were the 19th and 21st best prospects, according to mlb.com. Champlain was unranked.

Since this trade happened the same night that I returned from a vacation, is this another notch in my belt?
