I get that you're excited, but IMO, acquiring Soto means not extending Judge. If there’s an opportunity to get Soto you gotta do it, the losses you get in a trade for him is worth the return. He’s 23 much younger then Stanton and Judge, you have him for at least 3 post season runs. An insurance policy if Judge leaves and yes you could still keep Judge. Chapman and Britton are off the books after this year, Donaldson and Hicks soon after. That clears up room to keep both Judge and Soto long term. He wants a huge contract being a Boras client ok fine let him prove that in the Bronx for 3 years.
I'd much rather extend Judge and then use the trade chips to acquire other talent, then use all of our trade chips to acquire Soto and then risk losing Judge.
When all is said and done, I'd like to keep one of the top shortstop prospects and I personally think Dominguez is overrated.
Here my prediction of what the Yankees will do:
- Acquire Luis Castillo for Peraza, Waldichuk and maybe another prospect
- Acquire an outfielder with multiple years of control for Dominguez and another prospect or two. Maybe Laureano, Reynolds or Reynolds, but I don't think either is a good enough outfield to part with Dominguez. I'd trade Dominguez for Ian Happ.
- Acquire David Robinson
- Acquire a depth starter like Mike Minor
