The Official 2025 NY Jets thread

I just read…Quinnen WIlliams has had 3 head coaches on the Jets. All 3 started out 0-3. That’s pretty sad.

OK….two bad teams meeting on Monday night football. This is a game that will be determined by which team is more desperate. I am sure both teams see this as a chance to get their first win.

I am worried about the Jets defense. Missing Johnson and two linebackers against this offense doesn’t sound like a recipe for success.

On offense…the Dolphins struggle against the run…so you would think the Jets have an advantage here. I worry that Fields will be apprehensive to run due to his recent concussion. If Fields is fully healthy, it feels like the game plan should be controlling the clock and running the heck out of the ball.

I think the Jets are in a better mental state than the Dolphins and will handle the peaks and valleys better in this game. But I am also a long term Jet fan with PTSD and worry that somehow Zach Wilson will come off the bench and pass for 300 yards.

After the Ryder Cup and Mets debacle, I could care less about this stupid game. I will say, we heard about Braelon Allen all preseason and now would be the time to hammer him.

After getting trounced by Buffalo…and quickly falling behind against the Bucs, hopefully the run game and Allen get back on track tonight.

It feels like Engstrand wants to be a running team, but other teams scheme against that and he can’t adjust.

I want to see Mason Taylor more involved. It seems like he would be a great outlet for Fields.

Well coached teams don’t turn the ball over and commit excessive penalties.

It’s hard to invest time in a team that’s so frustrating to watch…year after year. All I wanted to see this year was a disciplined team who played hard. Fields was actually decent…the run game was decent…but the fumbles killed them.

They have no pass rush…Sauce keeps getting PI calls. I knew we would have growing pains with a first time OC.Defense doesn’t have that excuse.

What a mess.

They didn’t sack or even get a finger on Tua all game. That’s against an 0-3 team. I thought our DLine was a strength?

Glenn already sounds like Saleh and there are posts of them using the same phrases. I’ve seen this story before.

the Jets entered this year with little depth at WR2, LB and DE. That has been exposed so far with injuries.

They desperately need Jermain Johnson back this week.

I agree with this sentiment. Let’s face it…we knew the Jets were going to struggle this year. But one thing they need to find out is if Fields is the answer. If they play a clean game maybe we can evaluate them better.

What do you define as "the answer"? Someone that eventually gets locked into a long term deal and leads them to a few playoff appearances? Contends for the division? I really like some of what I've seen from him, but I don't know if I think he's a good enough passer to throw a bag of money at him. I am rooting for him and he seems like a great guy on and off the field and I'm glad they got him, but I can't see him with a Super Bowl ring on his finger.

I guess what I mean is whether they think they need to draft a qb in the first round next year. It would be nice to have qb stability for a few years. I am hoping they get enough data points this year to have the answer to that question. And next year’s qb class is not as good as they thought it would be…I would rather draft a top DL, WR or LB and have Fields look serviceable.

So far…he has had a good game….awful game…DNP…ok game. Not enough to know what they have in a qb.

I agree I can’t see him yet with a Super Bowl ring…but…do I see him as a playoff qb who can compete to get to the Superbowl? Yes…maybe. But…that depends on AG and the coaches putting a good team and scheme around him. I don’t think he can ever carry a team himself, but in the right system he can be effective.

But…right now he doesn’t have enough starts in this scheme to know if he can even be servicable.

Watching Mac Jones last night proved once again that average quarterbacks can be very effective in the right system. Purdy and Jones are not great…and on their own you can’t see them with a Superbowl ring on…but in Shanahan’s system…they just might win a ring.

I don't see him as a SB caliber QB. I would draft a QB at any point in any draft from this point forward if they feel he's the long term answer. Fields appears to be a nice guy to keep the seat warm until then.

And Mac Jones beating the Rams on short rest (at an "away game that had 75% SF fans) is different from Mac Jones going into Philly and getting a playoff win.

PTJS . . . Post Traumatic Jets Syndrome. I'm thinking of microdosing Sunday for some relief!

It’s not easy to find a superbowl caliber QB (obviously). How many are there actually in the league?

AFC; Allen, Jackson, Burrow, Mahomes, Herbert
NFC: Prescott, Daniels, Love, Stafford

Other very talented QBs who need a team around them to be great: Rodgers, Maye, Hurts, Williams, Goff, Mayfield, Murray, Purdy, Darnold. (there are a bunch of rookies that are unknowns at this point)

IMO, there are only 9 QBs who are what I consider to be Superbowl caliber. I think the second group can win a superbowl but need strong team or coaching to get there.

I know Fields will never be in the first group…Can he be in the second group? Probably not, but I hope he gets enough reps to know for sure before we start another rookie qb cycle.
