IMO, The Jets will need a 2nd or 3rd Rd QB, and hope they hit on a diamond. Fields will probably need a strong running game and defense, which were not exactly strengths last season. I don't think he should have been benched in favor for Russell Wilson, but the Steelers obviously thought Wilson had more to offer than game manager.

I think Fields has a known ceiling, and it's not Franchise QB. Having a history with his college WR certainly helps and he could end up being a late bloomer like Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield, but they didn't have to come of age in the fish bowl of Greater New York City. What this does more than anything is not having to overreach for a QB at #7.

This may seem like a negative post, but I think it's a net positive for the Jets.

There are some scouts that think teams are sleeping on Milroe. He needs polish, but they think the talent is there. If I were running the Jets, I'd draft Milroe in round 2 and pair him with Fields who has similar skills. You've now got two guys and you can build an offense that either one can run. Add designed runs, RPOs, roll outs and take advantage of what they can do.

It's weird to me that the league forgets that Lamar needed a custom offense his first few years and couldn't really execute a standard passing offense until two years ago. Fields is a smart gamble with upside and Milroe is a great complement to that.

I think the run game is better than you think it might be. The OL is decent with Fashanu as a young foundation. Allen and Hall are as good a 1-2 as most teams can send out. And you shift to more of a RPO type offense with Fields' legs as a weapon they didn't have last year. I think they can actually be a really good running team this year (and Glenn saw Montgomery/Gibbs in Detroit do their thing).

O-Line health, score, subpar OC, and nutcase for a QB contributed to it, but the Jets run game was ranked #31 or 32 last year in terms of yards, attempts, and Yds/gm, and rushing TDs.

Detroit's o-line was darned good. The running game starts in the trenches, not the backfield.

Fields signs for 2 years, 40m total, 30m guaranteed. I have NO issues with one. Relatively cheap, high draft pedigree, hopefully a late bloomer and if he's not, move on after 2 years.
Love this deal for the Jets.

At worst, it's a reasonable bridge deal that wouldn't be hard to move on. At best, the Jets will field an offense similar to the Eagles and Fields develops into the guy. I wanted the Giants to acquire Fields prior to he was traded to Pittsburgh.

So here’s a question.

Wilson played in college with Fields. Rodgers brought his guy Adams in last year.

Can Fields improve Wilson’s stats this year over last year with the chemistry and Wilson as the clear #1 option now?
they need a solid number number two receiver to help Wilson, but having Fields as his qb has to be a good thing. Hopeully this makes Wilson want to commit long term.

# of rushes would impact the yds and yds per game. And the OC or whoever called the plays clearly let Rodgers dictate the run/pass split. Again, I said I'd see more of an RPO focus from Fields leading things and I think you'll see it's better than you thought. Yds per RUSH they were middle of the pack (4.3 and 16th in the NFL - right there with the Bills, Texans, Pats and Bengals).

No question, the Jets will be an improving team f only because the inmates will presumably not be running the asylum.

They took a solid first step by jettisoning Rodgers. If only now they can keep the owner from interfering. A meddling owner who treating his franchise like a game of Madden is constantly searching for the reset button.
