The Official 2025 NY Jets thread

Through my 50 years of torture and misery and disappointment, I see the next 3-5 years as....

1) Fields is a below average (cheap) stopgap answer. He is either hurt in spots (and we have Taylor or worse starting a good chunk of games) or he is a game manager in a low scoring RPO offense.
2) If their OL and defense can flourish and they do better than expectations, then Glenn is safe and they roll the dice drafting a 1st rd QB. That QB then has 3 years to prove himself (a la Darnold or Z Wilson).
3) If Glenn isn't the guy and doesn't last past 3 years? That new young QB has to learn a new HC and OC after 1-2 years in the league. That's been the issue with a lot of young Jets QBs.

If I had to bet? Glenn lasts 4-5 years. They don't draft the franchise QB they need and we're back to right here in the same spot in 2030 and I'm 63 at that point.
I can see that…but I really do think they are set up well to draft a QB first in the draft next year.

- They shouldn’t need OL help…They already have 3 #1 picks on the line
-THey shouldn’t need DL help…Williams, McDonald and Johnson aren’t a perfect group…. but they are solid
- They don’t have a drafted QB on the roster.
- The stink of drafting ZW should have dissipated.
- Mougey hasn’t drafted a QB…he will be given a shot to build his own team
- While they need a WR to pair with GW, it doesn’t make sense to add another top WR if they don’t have a QB.
- Lastly…it’s a strong QB class…there will be many options throughout the first round.

I think unless Fields surprises this year they are heading toward drafting a QB in the first round….and even if Fields is decent, they will still probably draft one.

That all being said…even if they do draft a qb…it won’t work out…lol.

OK…first game on Sunday…I still can’t believe it’s the Steelers of all teams. Word is that the Steelers fans have bought half the tickets. So much for home field.

This game feels like an ugly one. I can’t imagine either offense will look good. While it’s entirely possible that Rodgers puts up 300 yards and 3 tds...it’s more probable that he puts up 200 yards and 2 tds. While it’s entirely possible Fields throws for 225 yrds and 2 TDs. It’s more probable that he puts up 175 yds and 1 TD.

I really don’t like the TJ Watt/Membou matchup. It just feels like they will need another TE in to block and Fields has one less passing option.

I see the Jets struggling to score at all..and the Steelers doing just enough to win the game.

Maybe 20-13 Steelers? I hope I’m wrong…but it’s just hard to be optimistic. But…I am all for being pleasantly surpised by the offense.

After watching today’s UConn debacle…I am hoping the Jets give me some hope tomorrow that this will not be another lost year for me with my football teams.

Alas..I am not optimistic.

Glass half full? Field looks composed. Doesn't get hurt. We actually move the ball to drive and score 2-3 TDs. Defense looks fast and mean and Rodgers has a mediocre day (185 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT).

Glass half empty? Offense is 3 and out all day. Fields looks erratic. Breece Hall is invisible. Rodgers picks us apart all day (275 yds, 3 TDs, 0 INT).

It would be nice to be 1-0 with Buffalo on deck. I'll take 0-1 IF they look really prepared and that Glenn has them ready and they play hard all game without mistakes.

well this was quite the failed prediction. This was not the low scoring defensive battle that people predicted.

I was very disappointed in the Jets defense…especially the secondary other than Sauce.

Fields looked great. Very composed. Hall looked great.

And of course they gave up 4 TDs to Rodgers and lost on a 60 yd FG. I hate being a Jets fan.

This Pats fan was impressed with Fields. This is the best he's looked as pro. I was a bit surprised the Steelers put up so many points. Didn't see that game as an offensive shootout. Should be encouraging for Jets fans.

I was most impressed with his pocket presence. I thought he'd be a lot more tuck and run and he was not. He is very comfortable in traffic in the pocket with footwork to slide up and let plays develop. And they rushed for 183 yds against a Steeler D that is no pushover.

And, of course, being a true Jets fan I now think the Bills are ripe for a letdown. LOL.

And I didn't want to open a can of worms on the Pats thread, but what were your thoughts on Maye? I didn't watch any of it but was surprised how little they did offensively against LV. And Stevenson/Henderson looks like a true timeshare after 1 week in the box score.

Maye made some bad throws (mostly high) and bad decisions (mostly out of frustration). The run blocking was awful. People getting on Mondre, but he was regularly touched behind the LOS. Henderson didn't do anything with his chances either and every pass wide to him was smothered. They have to do better.

My main concern with the offense was Josh. I think that was validated. I love what Vrabel brings, but I wanted some creativity on offense and Josh's game plan was awful. Once we abandoned the run, Maye was seeing double coverage on almost every receiver, nobody got open and hence the bad throws. On defense, the run D was excellent. The pass D really missed Gonzalez and the two TEs (best TE group in football by far, Mayer would start for a lot of teams) torched us.
