I can see that…but I really do think they are set up well to draft a QB first in the draft next year.Through my 50 years of torture and misery and disappointment, I see the next 3-5 years as....
1) Fields is a below average (cheap) stopgap answer. He is either hurt in spots (and we have Taylor or worse starting a good chunk of games) or he is a game manager in a low scoring RPO offense.
2) If their OL and defense can flourish and they do better than expectations, then Glenn is safe and they roll the dice drafting a 1st rd QB. That QB then has 3 years to prove himself (a la Darnold or Z Wilson).
3) If Glenn isn't the guy and doesn't last past 3 years? That new young QB has to learn a new HC and OC after 1-2 years in the league. That's been the issue with a lot of young Jets QBs.
If I had to bet? Glenn lasts 4-5 years. They don't draft the franchise QB they need and we're back to right here in the same spot in 2030 and I'm 63 at that point.
- They shouldn’t need OL help…They already have 3 #1 picks on the line
-THey shouldn’t need DL help…Williams, McDonald and Johnson aren’t a perfect group…. but they are solid
- They don’t have a drafted QB on the roster.
- The stink of drafting ZW should have dissapated.
- Mougey hasn’t drafted a QB…he will be given a shot to build his own team
- While they need a WR to pair with GW, it doesn’t make sense to add another top WR if they don’t have a QB.
- Lastly…it’s a strong QB class…there will be many options throughout the first round.
I think unless Fields surprises this year they are heading toward drafting a QB in the first round….and even if Fields is decent, they will still probably draft one.
That all being said…even if they do draft a qb…it won’t work out…lol.
