The Official 2025 New York Mets thread

Has Tong had Tommy John surgery yet? That would be my concern with him with his slight build. Then again we never benefitted from having deGrom, Harvey Matz Syndegaard and Wheeler all pitching at the same time so why not put him and McClean in the rotation. We gave up Sproat but I don't want to give up either Tong or McClean

I would have Tong in place of Senga immediately. Senga would be long relief or spot start unless injuries dictate otherwise.
I personally don’t view Senga as a reliever. Seems like everything has to be just so with him, he doesn’t seem like one who would adjust well not knowing which days he’d pitch or what the situation may be when he comes into the game.

Really just looks like they need one more bench piece and maybe a RP. Though they may just use that last bullpen spot to cycle guys up and down from AAA. And Mauricio may take that last bench spot

C - Francisco Alvarez
1B - Jorge Polanc
2B - Marcus Semien
3B - Bo Bichette
SS - Francisco Lindor
LF - Carson Benge
CF - Luis Robert Jr
RF - Juan Soto
Dan Hurley - Brett Baty

BN - Luis Torrens
BN - Mark Vientos
BN -
BN - Tyrone Taylor

SP - Freddy Peralta
SP - Nolan McLean
SP - Clay Holmes
SP - Sean Manaea
SP - David Peterson
SP - Kodai Senga

RP - Devin Williams
RP - Luke Weaver
RP - Brooks Raley
RP - AJ Minter
RP - Luis Garcia
RP - Tobias Myers
RP -

And you still have Mauricio, Jonah Tong, Christian Scott all in the minors who could potentially have roles as well
The concern Id have with this line up is Benge. We are assuming a lot just placing him in the starting line up like that. Stearns has been steadfast with the notion “he’ll have a chance to make the roster”. But making the roster and being the daily starter are also 2 different levels. I wouldn’t mind adding a Harrison Bader type to be a safety net if Benge isn’t quite ready yet. I guess Taylor represents that as well, just with a considerably lower upside at the plate.

I am really blown away by the moves in the past week, love Robert + Peralta - and just as much Tobias Myers.

The pitching still concerns me, Manaea was hurt all year, I don't trust Senga as far as I can throw him, and Peterson is inconsistent..

I like that they addressed the bats, but I felt the same way at the trade deadline last season - NEED POWER ARMS.

They spent all those great deals on building this monster bullpen - and then they couldn't have a starter get out of the 4th.
Just to play devils advocate … you could argue a lot of guys are due for a bounce back to their mean. Manaea was hurt most of last year and when he pitched he was below his career numbers. He doesn’t have to return to 2024 manaea, but can he just pitch to the back of his baseball card and be a reliable 4th arm? I think Peterson has proven to be a solid starter who can give some length. He’s not an ace, but he’s certainly a major league starter. Could he your #3 but certainly a solid 4th or 5th guy.

Freddy now gives us a bonafide #1 and takes the pressure off of McLean to be that. I think we all feel good about McLean, although he could be due for some regression compared to what we saw last year. Hopefully not, but if he does have more of an up and down year Freddy should help alleviate that.

Holmes seems like a solid #3. He was very good last year.

Senga is the wild card. He can be an absolute 0 or could lead the team in strike outs and ERA.

Tong and Scott represent upside or a fall back if Senga or someone doesn’t work out or gets injured.

That's fair, but I just view it as a pretty low risk move. He'd be hitting in the bottom of the order so not much pressure on him. And if it doesn't work you play Baty in LF and Vientos at D.H. I'm not against bringing in Bader or Austin Hays though
