The Official 2025 New York Mets thread

Dodgers are paying $126M for Kyle Tucker and giving up their 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th draft picks. There is aggressive and then there's this

It’s not so much about Tucker or the contract. I’m going to sound like the dumped chick here and just again wonder why we didn’t resign Alonso.

Kyle Tucker to the Dodgers.

Great plan by Stearns this offseason.
Ugh. I was pessimistic with Tucker because for days we kept reading the Mets offer publicly but no numbers on LA or Toronto. Felt like he was leaking the Mets stuff as leverage.

4 for 240?! Wild! The dodgers have a bottomless pit of funds.

Pressure is on now to get creative. Make a trade perhaps. A bat like Pete’s sure would be nice about now …

Supposedly defense? So sign a guy who hasn't played First base
It was weird and I questioned it but apparently he spent all last season working on the move to 1B so it was a long time coming. And there is a long history of infielders moving to 1B when their defense declines so we'll see how it goes

Much like the Diaz situation after seeing the Mets and Dodgers offers now I have a hard time being upset. Mets were offering $60M for the first 2 years before the opt out too and he preferred the Dodgers.

Hopefully there's a pivot to Bellinger/Valdez and a trade for Freddy Peralta. It seems dire when comparing the current team to the Dodgers but this is still one of the best teams in baseball currently, a few good moves makes them a legit WS contender

Dodger Offer:
4 yrs, 240m guaranteed
Opt outs after years 2 and 3
64m signing bonus
$30m deferred

Mets Offer:
4 yrs, 220m guaranteed
Opt outs after years 2 and 3
$75m signing bonus
$0 deferred

So basically he took the Diaz route and wants the "Kevin Durant" title.

Those signing bonuses are WILD to me.

Not on my radar either but I think he will be put at 2nd base. Lindor isn't moving from SS and they like Baty at 3rd. Bo did surprisingly well at 2nd in the series

So, thankfully this news pulled me off the ledge. I see Bichette at 3B, Lindor at SS, Semian at 2B and Polanco/Vientos at 1B.

Baty to LF is an interesting option. That would tell me they're not in on Bellinger or they're still planning on moving Baty (maybe in a Skubal deal?!). Another piece that's starting to play out is Mauricio. He doesn't have a FT position as of right now, he hasn't been moved in a deal and it's time he raises his production to the next level (like Baty did this year).

Oh wow, I had seen it speculated they may try for Bo and move Brett to 1B and Polanco to designated hitter. Interesting we move Brett to LF, not ideal IMO. He had really made strides as an INF. They've really not done him any favors for his development constantly moving him around.

We have a million infielders.

Bo
Brett
Vientos
Polanco
Lindor
Marcus
Acuna
Mauricio

Something's gotta give! Figure that 2 could be dealt right?

Brewers are still starting Joey Ortiz and Caleb Durbin on the left side of their infield, and have an unhappy Freddy Peralta ready to be dealt. Hopefully there's a match there somewhere

It's not just the bonuses, it's the AAV. Tucker and Bichette are both good, but IMHO, not great franchise-changing players. To be in the same stratosphere as Soto or Judge or Ohtani is nuts. Tucker will have a luxury tax hit of $57M, Bichette $42M on top of what they're getting paid.

I get that owners want to win championships and think it may well be worth this expense. But this inequity of the haves vs have nots is worse than the SEC/B1G vs rest of college sports.
