The Official 2025 New York Mets thread

I've been pretty patient and open to seeing the plan play out, but if the rumors of moving Lindor are true then that's out the window

So far it seems that defense and clubhouse are drivers for this years overhaul
That’s definitely what’s been insinuated but also we just signed Polanco to play defense at a position he’s played 1 game at his entire career. Now maybe he is more Dan Hurley and we sign someone else at 1B but if he’s the everyday 1B it’s a gamble on what his defense is like.

And clubhouse - idk what the dynamics have been but I can’t imagine Alonso, Diaz or Nimmo were bad apples in the clubhouse.

.-.
I think Alonso and Nimmo saw further dips in their defense this past year. Diaz I don't know. Wonder if bringing in Soto at such a big number had a negative impact on the other alphas in the clubhouse including Diaz and maybe Lindor

lol sorry I realized when I put Dee H it makes it Dan Hurley automatically.

I’m curious to see how it shakes out. Right now for infielders we have :

Polanco
Vientos
Baty
Acuna
McNeil
Semien
Lindor
Mauricio
And Jett Williams waiting in the wings … feels like that’s about 2 or 3 too many. A couple of those guys have to be dealt right ?

Vientos to Dan Hurley , Baty, Lindor, Semien and Polanco starting and McNeil roving between OF and IF that leaves Acuna, Mauricio and Williams. I doubt they move Williams so its Acuna and Mauricio and I think maybe Mauricio gets moved - you're right we will see. Note I tried to edit this but it kept converting Dan Hurley to Dan Hurley

Crap, I really like Weaver as a player, teammate and guy. Wishing him good luck w/ the Mets.

Weaver is a great move, hopefully one more good RP is coming and the bullpen will be a strength

Vientos and Mauricio seem like locks to be moved at some point with all the rumors, and McNeil has no role on this team so I imagine he's gone to anyone who will take that contract

I think they still like McNeil's versatility

Question: Is Luke Weaver better than Tyler Rogers? The money and years are negligible and I feel like Rogers might be more consistent.

I recognize I'm overly critical right now, but:

1) Nimmo gone for Semian. Hard to see the overall gain for the next 2-3 years.
2) Alonso getting no offer and signing Polanco supposedly to play 1B.
3) Not wanting Pete or Nimmo paid at 35-36 but paying Semian and Polanco for less production at 35-36.
4) Devin Williams for Diaz.
5) Luke Weaver for Tyler Rogers.

There better be a really big freaking move coming to make this all make sense to me. Right now, we're just not better short term or long term.

Weaver is not better, Rogers has been one of the best RPs over the past few years. But he also got 2 years and $26M more than Weaver which I wouldn't call negligible even if I would have paid it.

The rest I think is a little hyper critical, especially this early in the off-season when by all accounts there at least 2-3 big moves and a number of smaller trades still to come.

Semien is a huge upgrade defensively over Nimmo which is what they wanted to do this offseason. It's also 2 less years, opens up LF for their top prospect, and they moved off their worst contract in the process

Alonso not being offered a contract I still don't like. I thought his defensive issues were overblown. But from all the talk Polanco will be the primary Dan Hurley and they're still adding a 1B so that's still TBD.

Semien sure, but Polanco is a 2 year deal for his age 32 and 33 seasons, and he's a very good hitter who can play a bunch of positions when he's not the Dan Hurley.

The bullpen moves are downgrades, there's no denying that. But going from a top 2 closer to a top 5 closer is not the disaster everyone is making it out to be. Weaver to Williams is a more than capable backend combo and better than all but a few teams will have. That's still 2 of the top 20-30 RPs in baseball

I guess I feel like this. If I’m going to lose Alonso and Diaz, I hope to feel better about the quality of team on the field in the end.

They’re not close to me feeling like that.

I think that's premature but a fair opinion right now. But I'll also say that the bar to be better than last year's team is very low and I think they're already there even without other moves. By the end of the offseason they should be the clear #2 to the Dodgers

My concern with last years team was starting pitching. We still don't have a front of the rotation starter.

David Peterson and Lindor are now the two longest tenured Mets. The core of the team as you knew it is gone.
