The Official 2024 NY Giants Thread

1 since 2011. not as bad as '63-'81 but getting close.
I'm referring to the numerous posters who gave most of the credit for that win to Jones, cheered the $160 million contract in the wake of the Giants declining the ~$20M 5th year option following a season that would have been barely Pro Bowl caliber in 1991, and/or thought $40M/year for a mediocre QB (at best) would have minimal cap implications even though they restructured the deal for cap relief just before Week 1.

It was in Barkley's best interest to move on from the Giants. Don't know if he will get a ring in Philly (News Flash: It's really hard), but they certainly give him a better shot over the next three years, for sure. The only value Barkley held for the Giants since the day he was drafted was selling #26 jerseys.

The Commanders are 0-2 over the last five days, but I don't know if one can say that they necessarily are stumbling. They are in year one of their retooling, Dan Quinn & Co. had them overachieving in the first half of the season, and both the Steelers and Eagles lead their respective divisions. On the other hand, I fear they are entering Kliff Kingsbury's traditional time of year where his offensive tendencies gets figured out, but neither Pennsylvania team are slouches. So we'll see.

Going into the season, I thought the first half would be easier than the second, but the Cowboys have completely fallen on their face and the first two weeks for the Saints were evidently fool's gold. There's a good possibility that Washington enters the playoffs at 11-6, and an outside shot at better. Crazy what a change in culture can do (Oh yeah, a generational QB and $80 Million in off season cap space.).

Culture starts with ownership, and both Metro NYC teams appear to have a similar issue with it.

The flea flicker is all on Daniel Jones. He had 2 wide open wide receivers, one of whom was Wan'Dale Robinson who would have walked in for a TD. No issue with the play call, especially when it's obvious the plan was to go for it on 4th down if Jones doesn't take a sack.

I won't be mad if they move on from Daboll, but it would be a dumb and shortsighted move. He deserves a chance to coach this team with a real QB
Daboll has not distinguished himself at all this year. Neither has Schoen showed. Both have made not questionable decisions they are down right bad. No QB is going to be any good until they fix the O line. My worry is Cutlets comes in and wins a few games and puts us in the 5 to 10 draft pick range. That plus this is a bad yr for QBs means we maybe seeing these two next year

It’s official, it’s Tommy DeVito as the starting QB.

IMO, best move. Hopefully he’s good enough to be a viable placeholder next season until whatever rookie QB they draft.

Pats fan here and I just traded for DeVito in fantasy football because all my QBs are hurt. So I'm hoping Tommy balls out for you guys. At the very least, helpful to find out what you have.

I've been jabbing at Jones for 3+ years now (Maybe closer to 5). Now, I kinda feel bad for him though. This is Schoen and Dabol trying to keep their jobs beyond New Years.

Something in me feels like the Giants did him dirty.

Jones asked to be released can’t blame him. The Mara’s are mostly at fault for this for hoping that Jones is Eli and continuing to hope that.

More like end of an error
Sadly more like the transition to a new error.

One of ESPN's talking heads said yesterday that the Giants (who are in no position to squander draft capital) will trade whatever is required to move up to the first pick in the 2025 draft Shadeur Sanders.

If they do this they may as well change the team name to the Jets.

unfortunate ending for a once proud franchise trying to celebrate their 100th season. The franchise appears to be at the same low point as when George Young was hired and laid the foundation for 4 Super Bowls.

Nah the Jets would have kept Jones and fired Schoen and Daboll

Perfect illustration of both teams current plights:

The Giants head coach goes for two (sacrificing an extra point) whether it makes sense or not. The Jets were in a situation last week that absolutely called for attempting a two point conversion as the extra point alone was worthless but the kicked an extra point, only to eventually lose by one.

And for the record, I would view it as a Christmas present if the Giants parted ways with Schoen and Daboll.

How did they do him dirty? If Schoen and Daboll wanted to save their jobs then Daniel Jones would still be starting. He was their shield to say they deserve to come back because they were being held back by a bad QB. Which I think is true and is why I hope both of them are back next year

Correct for the most part but Schoen was the guy who gave Jones the contract extension.

I'm more concerned about the way they are building the team, which looks like the same approach of more than half the league, thinking that a QB, a weapon at wideout a pass rusher and a corner are all you need to worry about. We not only need to complete (we have some pieces) building from the lines out, we need to be sure our coaching staff is capable of developing players.

Also, what I've heard this week about Daboll being either unwilling or unable to communicate with the players doesn't bode well for success. It may be time to send him on his way.

Do I have this right that there is a 22 million cap hit going into next year.

I agree, kind of. You definitely need to build from the line out, but I think Schoen knows that and has been doing it. The signings on the offensive line have been great, and until Andrew Thomas went down the offensive line looked really good. Thomas, Schmitz, Runyan, and Eluemunor all look like starting caliber offensive linemen for next year. Neal has been a bust, so they likely just need to fill the RT spot this offseason

Do him dirty how he had 6 years here, 3 HC and 2 GMs.

Sure, they gave him a lot of money. Then they had to play cap games and restructure Jones shortly after he signed his contract for cap relief.

Mac Jones was a pro bowl rookie. Then 3 OCs later he, and he is backing up Trevor Lawrence. Patriots did him dirty too.

They resigned him for big money. That's doing right by him. He was never any good.
Said no Giant fan here when they reset the market after he played merely adequately vs. the Vikings in the 2022 Playoffs.

More than a few here had Giant blue-colored glasses on in terms of the new contract.
