The Official 2024 New York Yankees Thread

Schmidt with 68 pitches through 2 2/3 innings. Horrific. Not missing any bats.

Umpire with a tight strike zone early.

And he gets yanked.

I think judge/smith is about a standard deviation the worst hitters on the field this WS

Verdugo hit that hr because he wanted to send a message about the dodgers not pitching casparius

Judge is going to go down as the biggest playoff choker ever. Dude keeps setting records for futility.

An organization who's number 1 priority is staying under the luxury tax vs an organization who's number 1 priority is winning the World Series. Of course the team on the field has choked too led by Judge.

Painful as it may sound, I think you Yanks fans should spend tomorrow morning watching "The Comeback: The 2004 Red Sox" to bolster your hopes.
I'd say it's a reminder that a scrappy bunch of clutch performers that fit together is better than a super-team, except the Dodgers are the ultimate super-team. The scrappy Diamondbacks swept the Dodgers last year though.

Simply had to cover first base. A basic fundamental play run in Spring Training. But nope, Cole just stands there and points at the bag.

F%$#ing embarassment. Fifth game of the world series and they look like a bad little league team.

Jim Tressel interviewing Danny Hurley is on the men's basketball forum (I highly recommend it). At one point Tressel talks about when he was coaching Youngstown St they made it to four straight national championship games and they recruited better talent as each year passed. The fifth year, when he felt they should havce had a better team than any prior one, yet they didn't win half of their games. He and the staff started analysing everything to see what happebed and discovered that from year to year they would spend more and more practice time on adding new things to the offense and defense and less and less on fundamentals. By the time they were in year five, no players that had sufficient time practising fundamentals was left on the roster.

Cashman has demonstrated for far too long (most glaring being the Gleyber at shortstop experiment) that he doesn't value fundamentals. The fifth inning tonight was the result if that.

Judge finally woke up in the playoffs after being historically bad and then he turned into Steve Bartman in the 5th inning.

They weren't winning the Little League World Series with an inning like that.

Sure, Cole didn't cover which is a fundamental mistake but what the hell is Rizzo doing? After Giancarlo who is an all-time Yankee playoff performer now, Cole is about the only other guy I'm not mad at. Dude pitched his heart out as everyone else was letting him down.

IDK, maybe Rizzo has 2 broken toes in addition to his 2 broken fingers. Sure looks like he was close enough to get there since Cole wasn’t bothered to. Yanks are swell dugout dancers, though.

Aaron Boone and the entire coaching staff need to be fired. They suck at all the fundamentals
ihatepants- - you're right, but the organization relying on analytics to teach baseball is insane!
That's why they suck at fundamentals!
As long as Steinbrenner owns the Yankees they'll never win a World Series again!
They over achieved this season!

As long as Hal runs the show, Cashmn will be GM. With Cashman as GM, Boone stays as manager.

Analytics run the Yankees from the minors to the majors in both pitching and hitting. The game has passed the Yankee management by.

Hal is content to make the playoffs. It makes more money, especially this season. And he's happy. He does not really want to do was is needed to win it all. There - I said it.

Probably the worst loss in Yankee history. Why would Soto come back.
Volpe….choke
Judge…choke
Rizzo….choke
Cole ….not sure I will call it choke but cover freaking first base.

After the first game I will admit I thought we were done. So I kind of watched the games…..but after the 5th…..it was over for me. Watched the end of the Knicks game and woke to see what I already knew Yankees Lose….Yankees Lose…..Theeeeee Yankeeees Lose.

The Yankee mystique officially stopped existing during this series. Aaron Boone has managed this franchise from the legendary to just another MLB team. The Yankees don’t or never did lose WorldSeries games like they have these.

The are incapable of playing clean winning baseball. The 5th inning will live in infamy for Yankee fans. Soto signs with Mets or Dodgers…… then we become just another team for a long time.

We need to bring Buck back into the organization in a high level administrative role, responsible for ensuring baseball fundamentals are properly taught throughout all levels.

I know Cashman isn't fond of Showalter but Buck knows fundamentals as well as anyone in the game.

An all time classic meltdown by the Yanks.

The coaching staff didn't drop easy fly balls, or drop throws or cause catcher interference. Judge is more responsible for the loss than the coaches.

I said it before and I'll repeat here again, when management never even called in Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto for interviews 5 years ago the Yankees as we know then we were done!
If George were still alive the NYY would have won at least 3 WS titles since 2009!
In October Hal & Cashman said "we are all in to get a a WS title!" and did basically nothing the team had no chance to win the WS!
Hal is in it for the big $, screw the fans!

YES... Cole needs to be there. But if Rizzo charges the ball and doesn't go completely passive, I'd think it would be irrelevant whether Cole was there or not. Rizzo looked like he was nonchalantly taking a ground ball on the first day of Spring Training. With the fastest runner on the Dodgers. On a slow groundball. In the World Series. Absolutely mind-boggling.

I've been watching since 1985 and this is the worst loss I can remember. 2004, I knew they were losing game 7. 2001, Mariano gets the benefit of the doubt for an error and a cheap hit. This? The worst. All of the same BS reared its head. Again. Bad baserunning, pisspoor defense, inability to put the ball in play in big spots.

I mean from the 5th inning on we had three errors, a pitcher not covering first, a first baseman not charging a groundball, a catcher's interference, a balk, and seven left on base. It was like watching a Middle School team implode.

I don't know what the "answer" is but for the 300,000th time the Yankees need to reevaluate their personnel. The lineup, when things got real, became a blackhole of poor at bats and strikeouts. The bullpen was shaky and patched together and the starters (other than Cole) were unable to give any length. Defensively, they are weak at multiple positions and there is an extreme lack of major league quality depth.

I can't pin everything on Boone but I feel like it has run its course. But maybe the biggest issue is the overreliance on analytics will keep things the same with the same tired reasoning and rationale.
