Just sharing - some names come up time and time again.

10 college football coordinators that are making it happen:
http://coachingsearch.com/article?a=10-college-football-coordinators-that-are-making-it-happen

Randy Clements (Baylor offensive line / run game coordinator)
Tom Herman (Ohio State offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach)
Mike Bobo (Georgia offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach)
Cam Cameron (LSU offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach)
Mike Elko (Bowling Green defensive coordinator)
Scott Frost (Oregon offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach)
Noel Mazzone (UCLA offensive coordinator)
Barry Odom (Memphis defensive coordinator / safeties coach)
Rich Skrosky (Ball State offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach)
Dave Steckel (Missouri defensive coordinator / linebackers / associate head coach)

*** One could easily include Missouri offensive coordinator Josh Henson on this list as well.

*** Others to note, for sure (some of the more obvious): Kirby Smart, Pat Narduzzi, Justin Wilcox, Chad Morris

**** One we overlooked when this article was first posted: Texas Tech defensive coordinator Matt Wallerstedt

Names, names, names....

For sure there are other wildcards out there but beginning to see a trend

12 assistants I expect to become head coaches...soon
http://www.footballscoop.com/news/11058-assistants-i-expect-to-become-head-coaches-soon

Kirby Smart (Defensive Coordinator - Alabama)
Doug Nussmeier (Offensive Coordinator - Alabama)
Scott Frost (Offensive Coordinator - Oregon)
Chad Morris (Offensive Coordinator - Clemson)
Tom Herman (Offensive Coordinator - Ohio State)
Derek Mason (Defensive Coordinator - Stanford)
Cam Cameron (Offensive Coordinator - LSU)
Justin Wilcox (Defensive Coordinator - Washington)
D.J. Durkin (Defensive Coordinator - Florida)
Bob Diaco (Defensive Coordinator - Notre Dame)
Chuck Martin (Offensive Coordinator - Notre Dame)
Pat Narduzzi (Defensive Coordinator - Michigan State)

One final note, we could go on and on about John Chavis, Mark Snyder, Bob Shoop and Clancy Pendergast as well. Each of these defensive coordinators is a great coach who do nothing but produce on the field and will continue to see nothing but success. They might not get the big mention in job searches; but sometimes the guys who keep their heads down and just work are the ones who wind up getting the best opportunities<<

Medic it's funny how Venables isn't on this list...by turning down the jobs or taking himself out of the hiring process for jobs like he has done in the past it seems as though he has become that guy who missed his window of opportunity and isn't on the "it" list anymore.

I put him in the wildcard category - it has to be the right fit. Same w/ Smart - easy to put him on a list - but he ain't going anywhere right now w/ the way Bama treats him.

We should start a rumor that Condoleeza Rice is on Warde's short list.

.-.

I will say this every time Kirby Smart's name is mentioned.......give any coordinator the talent that Bama has on defense......George DeLeone could coach that defense to a top 10 ranking. Littered with future NFL picks.

No argument from me - but a lot of these "name-brand/household name" coaches get their rep the same way - right? They are able to manage talented players.

Yeah. But for every Nick Saban......there are 3 or 4 Steve Kragthorpes.

.-.
Anyone have any new thoughts to add with this convo two weeks later?

Cam Cameron? Dead God no. I almost can't wait for the season to finish to see the candidates list. Last time around it was underwhelming, but Hathaway's search.

.-.
I think you have to give Ambrose a serious look. I also have not thrown TJ overboard. I think he has the right stuff, but last week shook my confidence. I thought he would make positive movement week over week. That did not happen in Cincy. Not sure if JC himself (you can choose which JC) would make much of a difference as I am beginning to come over to the side that has argued that we have some real personnel talent issues especially in the trenches.

Not sure what Venables is waiting for, maybe K State, but with the way he is paid at Clemson there is not a huge rush for him to leave.

Smart I think is waiting for the UGA job, guy makes 1.3mill to be a coordinator at the best program in the country, not a bad gig.

Since we really can't afford the coach the program needs we will have to get the following:
Existing head coach with 3 to 5 years in charge.
He teams and system must provide an entertaining style.

He has to be a good manager and evaluater of staff.
He has to be able to attract top notch assistants.
(Since success here will probably be a stepping stone grooming a replacement from within the system would be great.)
That would mean a distinct UConn style.
He has to have a proven record as a recruier.
He should be between 35 and 45 years old.
He should have never been fired from a HC job.

Going up against USC, Texas and possibly Nebraska this offseason.

I like these guys, in no particular order:

Pat Narduzzi - DC, Mich St
Scott Frost - OC, Oregon
Jeremy Pruitt - DC, FSU
Jim Tressel - Akron Advisor
Tom Herman - OC, OSU
Pete Lembo - HC, Ball St
Josh McDaniels - OC, Patriots

If Bo craps the bed in Nebraska, you can cross Scott Frost off your list.

Agreed. I don't know why he isn't being linked at USC too. Maybe he is and nobody is saying anything. If for whatever reason he "slips through", then I'll pay for his plane ticket out here for the interview!

I have no clue as to who is being targeted for the job but I can assure you that things will not play out as they did when Hathaway was AD.

With Hathaway it was amateur night. SH & WM are professional and serious. They absolutely are not playing games with this hire.

Venables only makes $800K...OC Chad Morris makes $1.3 Million. If Venables gets a HC job..he will kost likely end up with a deal of about $1.8 million per yr. He WAS on top of my list with Narduzzi..the FSU game sat night made that change quickly!

Dooley if you are going to put McDaniels on there..I think Greg Roman of the 49ers would be a better fit in the college game. He has coached at the college level (OC at Stanford under Harbaugh)..McDaniels has not.
