The expanded College Football Playoff off to a rough start

No Oregon was screwed. They shouldn’t be playing Ohio st yet when they are a 1 seed. When Penn st and Texas had easier opponents so far.
They seem to be screwing them selves with their lack of ability to stick with a team they already beat once this year.

They picked the right teams. The seeding was a disaster. Boise St didn’t beat a single P4 team all year. They should have had to play thr first weekend. It would have been a good game against Indiana or Clemson.

Agreed - the first round should be labeled a "play in" round to clarify that it is really the 4 weakest teams. Indiana/Tennessee or Boise/Indiana would have been fun.

I really hope Oregon makes this a game.

The CFP has been an unmitigated failure. Not only has it given us 6 boring games out of 7, but it has highlighted the biggest problem with college football, the huge number of blowouts among teams at the top, that no other system could have illustrated as clearly.

When you look at the brackets before anything is done, you should see Oregon where Boise is. PSU is there with SMU and Boise and has the easiest path to the semis. Two G5 (sorry SMU is now P4) schools? I agree with others that there needs to either be a reseeding or something else because there's no reason Oregon should be facing OSU in their first game.

Why blitz on 4th and 13? Anyone who has even played Madden or EA NCAA Football knows you drop back on 4th and 13 that close to the end zone.
I didn't understand that either when I was watching in real time. On 4th and 13 I would think it is better to rush only 3-4 and drop 7-8 into coverage. That's what most teams would do and they would have a few guys at the sticks.

Texas couldn't go over the top against a 2 deep that close to the end zone, so just drop 2 safeties back, and play either a zone or man under it because 13 yards gives the coverage a lot of time to close on anything caught underneath. Getting a first down on 4th and 13 with 7 or 8 dropped back in coverage is very, very difficult. Getting a first down against a telegraphed blitz, less so.

Obviously Oregon should not have been in.
Yeah. That’s petty obvious considering they almost lost to Boise early in the season, and Boise shouldn’t have been in.

I can't tell whether it was ironic or unfortunate that I turned off Texas/ASU to watch UConn blow out DePaul?

They probably need to seed by overall rankings regardless of who won their conference title game. They do that and Oregon is playing the winner of Boise St / Indiana instead of OSU.

I think you're right, but just to play devil's advocate, if the final four were all chalk people would be complaining about that, too.

We just had the number one seed knocked out in the quarterfinals. Upsets are good (if they're allowed to happen)!

I would keep the conference-champ-byes but reseed for the QFs.

12 ASU v 1 Ore @ Rose
5 ND v 4 PnSt @ Peach

9 Boise v 2 Ga @ Sugar
6 OhSt v 3 Tex @ Fiesta

For all the complaining about letting the rankings determine things, the BiG may be proposing that the BiG and SEC get 4 bids, the B12 & ACC get 2, G5 gets 1, and 1 at-large. So I guess 14 teams.

The conference championship day would be changed to have "prelims" -- eg, #6 BiG vs #3 BiG & #5 BiG v #4 BiG to get bids, with #1 & #2 getting AQs.

The CFP probably needs to be tweaked a bit but having some unexpected teams there is great for the sport. And all the teams that “should have been there” would have if they just didn’t lose games they should have won!
This is year one. Let it breathe a bit before screwing it up even further. Nothing is going to please everyone.
