Terrence Samuel given release from Penn St

Well, Olden would be eating a ship for multiple years. We can't sacrifice that spot for a guy unless he is an impact player. A lot of the Samuel attraction is sentimental, for sure. The only way I would want him back is if we are sitting in late May with our 13th slot looking like its going to a guy like Foxen. In this case, fine. Regardless, apparently Oz got feedback that the staff is not particularly interested. He is no longer our infallible insider after the Diallo fiasco but it appears that this whole conversation is a moot point.
Correct, Chief was right on Diallo not Oz. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean he's not an insider. Just that he needs to learn to filter better - an inexact science.

In that scenario TSam did great things for us. He's a complimentary player who probably wants to start. Would it work the same way with next year's team? Who knows? I guess our needs won't be apparent until we start playing a few games. It's not outside shooting he brings, but are we set there? Should it be a strong rebounder? Lots of question marks with health and how youngsters end up performing.

Okay, I watched. Really an alert defender. Good inside passing, sees the whole court. Can finish at the rim with both hands. But I have to ask, did he call glass on that 3 in the second clip?

If he came back ollie could use him like marcus smart

Much density on this board. The three guard perimeter has always been UCONN's secret sauce on offense. UCONN is one popped shoulder away from being short at guard next year. The idea that a player who was a key contributor to a championship team as a Freshmen could not come here and be a valuable role player as a 5th year senior is absurd.

If Ollie can find someone better I'm all for it but if not i'd love to see TSAM back.

Tell the truth. You got aroused when you wrote that first sentence, didn't you?

Amida Brimah beat St Joes with a 3 point play. TSam did a couple of great things in the miraculous run our guys had. But it wasn't going to get much better with these guys, that was the highlight for each.

Done time to move on to better things at UConn....next:confused:

It seems to me that this is not the way you run a program if bringing tsam back is for sentimental reasons only or even if only for the most part. Based on ability, Terrence will not play here and should find a better fit for him if he wants a post-grad year. Hope he focuses on the education part of that deal if he finds a taker.

Oz said it's not happening. The way he said it it sounds like Tsam was interested in coming back and contacted the staff to guage interst and the staff probably told him he wasn't a fit.
So if Oz is correct, then Ollie turned against his "family" atmosphere and said no?!

Why do we need 5 guards? That's ridiculous. If Gilbert gets hurt again we have Makai we can handle the ball and take pressure off Adams who had no one like that to help him this year. 4 Guards are plenty especially since I believe Adams will play around 30 plus minutes a game anyway.

Yeah I talked to Terrence and asked if he was coming back and he said "I wish"
Hope he finds a good landing spot

I was a big T Sam fan when he was here. We certainly could have used him this past season as well.

If it's a debate between Samuel and not using the scholarship, I would take Sameul.

I would be concerned though as a Senior how he would respond to getting little to no PT. I wouldn't think he'd become a distraction, but for 1 year, it's maybe not worth the risk.

Hope he lands at a place he can start.

Makes me feel bad for him, guess he regrets leaving.

Did he use the suggested "Chief filter"
It's best we wait for Chiefs declaration on this.

It's a highlight reel.

He just got run off at Penn State.
I think it's sort of telling that the second highlight in his highlight reel is a wide-open three pointer that went off the backboard and luckily went in.

Are we in a position to throw stones at Penn State at the moment? Are we that much better? At least they're in the BIG10.
Yes we are in a position to throw stones at PSU, and yes we are in a MUCH better position than them. Do you follow college basketball? This post is up there, even for BY standards.

If he wants to come back as a situational defensive guard and provide team leadership with no promise of playing time , it would be ok. He's 6'3" and strong so I can see KO occasionally saying " Terrance I need you to guard this kid and shut him down". The problem with that is Vital would probably be good at doing that next year and provide better scoring.

TSam was one of the fairly smart, fun and likable guys on the team. From a coach's perspective he can't shoot and I agree give Vital those minutes. The other thing is it became a pattern recruits did not commit after being hosted by TSam despite his fun personality. Was that internal negative recruiting to protect playing time? Or was it just bad luck? After he left recruiting picked up with Mr Bunkey scoring one win after another with 2 grad transfers and 5 FR. I would rather use the scholarship on a Big or shooter.

Bunky didn't score any wins. Our coaches did.
