Tarris Reed Jr. | Page 3 | The Boneyard

Tarris Reed Jr.

Love the way Reed is playing. He is playing inside his abilities and maximizing them exactly what Hurley wanted. I don't think 35 minutes a night is sustainable without wearing him out. But we needed every minute last night.

Definitely not forgetting. I said I could count on two fingers the post up guys we've had who could do what Tarris can do. It's pretty much Adama and Tarris. DC was great at a million things, but he was never the most fluid guy in the post. Then add in that Tarris rebounds at a very high level, hits his free throws, rim protects, and passes? Dude was an untapped monster that our staff is slowly unveiling.
Tarris is great (I hate to jump ahead but the Reed/Reibe combo to come? Ho-boy). It's not that we forget about Adama or others, it's just that we have so many guys... This program is such an embarrassment of riches.

he won't be playing 35 minutes when Samson gets back so the point is moot

Are folks forgetting how great he was already?
Dude’s footwork and ability to manipulate defenders down low was an absolute masterclass. Honestly, if you had Sanogo’s technical skill with Reed’s ability to seek out and play through contact (as opposed to Sanogo shying away from it a bit), you’d have a POY candidate.

Happened one game so far. Didn’t look bad either.
Dangerous with their proclivity for foul trouble and Stewart already around as a very solid backup at the four. We saw it once this year but it was against the only team we’ve seen and possibly will see with a double post big lineup.

Tarris has played much better than I expected he would. His development was certainly hindered at Michigan. I hope he can continue to stay out of severe foul trouble like he did yesterday because we definitely need him on the floor.

I think Tarris can improve in quickness, speed and explosiveness in offseason Strength and Conditioning work. Small improvements in those 3 areas will net big results. Was very impressed with his stamina at 35 minutes or so of play.

He seems to be growing possession to possession, I mean he had the best game of his career yesterday but I still feel like he is scratching the surface. Feels like he can get any rebound he wants sometimes on either end which is exciting too.

I'm also a huge Singare fan, he's really shown some stuff in brief possessions imo a 'break glass' big. Just feeling really optimistic about the bigs situation which was my biggest concern going into the year.

He dossnt have sanogo touch , he has more height , by next year equal in strength. Significantly better shot blocker /rim protector. I see why danny locked him up mid championship celebration lol
I actually think he does have the touch but he doesn’t have the footwork sanogo has … sanogo has an elite feel for the post work

Seriously? I think YOU need to figure a few things out.
Yes and once he does, he will be completely unstoppable, he’s almost there now. He’s still learning from our staff. If you watch closely he makes a lot of mistakes, they will go away and he will be one of or the most dominant player in college.

Totally agree on your post.

For a body type like Reed Jr. another off season of conditioning in turning some of that poundage into lean muscle should do wonders.

I know we were hoping to get the portal center out of Rutgers (Omoruyi), but no regrets now.

That floater for a man his size is really not something you see too much. I mean Jokic a few other but he has raw power and finesse. It is clear to see why he was so highly rated coming out of high school.

He is so talented he probably could coast at the high school level then never coached up to adapt to the level of competition in college.

I wonder how he shoots from 15ft in. Or even the three point line. Not that we are going to use him like that but if he looked at the basket at all when he gets the ball up high, look what happened when Sanogo starting doing that. I think Reed may be the one of the most offensively skilled true center we have had. Mek was not nearly the size of this guy. The only comparison I can think of on size not length is Drummond.

Yes but Reed received no coaching his first two seasons. Sanogo had the benefit of three seasons with this staff.
Correct how good would he be if this was his 3rd
Year being coached by a extremely competent
Coach and not what he had at michigan ?

I have never been a Samson believer. HOWEVER, those 9 minutes against Texas and the Baylor game were encouraging. I can see a stud because of his speed relative to other bigs. Praying he stays out of foul trouble

Statistically very close. Thanks for posting them.

The intangibles not shown by these statistics (particularly for Clingan when in the game) is the number of altered shots or the number of times opponents backed away from shooting near the basket when Clingan moved towards them, or when their shot trajectory was altered.

Immeasurable were those factors, and not shown on any box score. Quite a skill set.
