In terms of pure skill, he is as good, if not better, than anyone we've ever had. Other guys may have put up better #'s, but we have very few guys who have the total package that Tarris has. I mean last night alone, he scored at will in the post, hit a floater, hit his free throws, rebounded, rim protected, and had two assists including hitting someone on a backdoor cut. Feel like I can count on like two fingers the amount of guys we've had who could post, drop step and spin, to finish with contact with their left hand. And... He's getting better and has some areas that he will still improve.

Remember when many of you got upset that we got him instead of Cliff, Ballo, or the others...? Trust the staff. They really know what they're doing.

Big fan of Reed and his skillset. He’s not the most skilled big we’ve had in the past three seasons though.

Pure skill, I think he's easily in the conversation. DC was a far superior defender, obviously. I think as a post player, Reed is better.

He may not have Sanogo’s touch, which is unbelievable, but he’s got great hands and he finishes most of the time. Tarris is very reliable.
And….he can make foul shots. Sanogo had quickness and footwork that was unreal but Tarris is beyond what I thought we were getting based on his time at Michigan. He has much surer hands and grip on rebounds than Sanogo had. It’s a vice grip.

I don’t know why this board is hell bent on this constant either/or discussion on the centers. We need both equally. They give us different options on both ends. Yet every game, when one does something the other doesn’t there’s a thread.
Yep, different strengths. Reed is not yet as good runing the pick and roll as Samson, he's slower to the hoop and doesn't catch or elevate as well, which was evident a couple times last night. Xavier had no defense for that, the middle was largely empty. If Samson were in they would have been forced to guard that play, and spend less time running guys off the 3 point line. Would have been a largely different game.

We needed Sanogo and Clingan, we needed Clingan and Johnson, and we need Reed and Johnson. Yes, one center is more productive and gets more minutes than the other, but having two quality centers that bring different skills to the table has been an ingredient to cut down the nets.

Reed is #12 nationally in double doubles, #35 in blocks, and #26 in rebounds. From stats.ncaa.org, as of 12/19/24

Some rule changes regarding flopping probably help, but Reed does a great job avoiding charges and offensive fouls when he bulls his way to the rim (last night's hooking call notwithstanding).

Samson Johnson's concussion couldn't have happened at a worse time for him. He was playing great early vs Gonzaga and TR has been killing it. Perfect storm.

Right. Samson is better at flashing out and hedging on screens. Samson is a better passer. Samson is better slipping off his man for alley oops. Reed has better footwork and low post moves in his bag. Reed is much stronger and tougher. Reed is a better rebounder.

If one of them is out in March, we're in trouble. I love the minutes and growth from Singare....but I don't want him getting 10 minutes in an Elite 8 game, if possible.

Don't think anyone has mentioned it, but as a big he's great at the line (72%). He gets there a good amount of time and makes the FTs too.
It feels like he is a much better FT shooter than 72% too. He's got a nice release. I wonder if next year he'll take a page out of the Sanogo playbook and extend his range out to the 3 point line

Was referring to Sanogo.

I got it. Honestly, I think Reed is close as a post player. Tarris is not as efficient yet, but I honestly would not be surprised if Tarris' senior year, offensively, is similar to Adama's last year here.

It's not an exact comp, but Sanogo's per 40 his junior year was 26 and 12. Tarris, this year, is 22 and 16.

Are folks forgetting how great he was already?

Definitely not forgetting. I said I could count on two fingers the post up guys we've had who could do what Tarris can do. It's pretty much Adama and Tarris. DC was great at a million things, but he was never the most fluid guy in the post. Then add in that Tarris rebounds at a very high level, hits his free throws, rim protects, and passes? Dude was an untapped monster that our staff is slowly unveiling.

I loved Sanogo. I am really liking Reed Jr in what we have seen so far. He seems to grab/catch the ball like it sticks to his hands as if they were magnets. We are far from those days of some of our centers lacking hand strength with too many dropped passes (Brimah, Thabeet,...) .

Adama became efficient by his third season at UConn, Tarris is much more efficient than Adama was his first couple seasons.

Reed has been great. He has some fantastic tools. I would love to bring in Emeka to help teach him a bit more defensively.
