Sunday 2nd Round (non-UConn games) thread

Marquette looks scared. Surprised that a Shaka Smart team would come into a second round game this tight.

Kolek with 2 fouls. This is a danger zone for Marquette. MSU could get up 15-20 points if Marquette is not careful.

MSU up 16-5 and Kolek has to sit with 2 fouls already. MU on life support already I'm afraid.

Being a favorite, not getting the whistle you are used to in the BE, and your top player on the bench with foul trouble is not a good formula for a win.

Either you‘re not comparing apples to apples here, or your stats are wrong.

That's 37.5% (54 of 144). Add in 3 of 4 from 2022 and you've got 38.5%.

On the "only 5 teams" part, maybe you missed the part where I only included teams playing for an at-large bid, not the AQs that would be 16 seeds.

If you've got something else, please post it.

Marquette having problems on both ends of the court. They at least need the defensive side to work.

You don't generally see a team start this badly and come back. I think it is just not Marquette's day. Time to focus on UConn/St. Mary's.

Marquette still has the press and a pile of rocks in it's back pocket. At some point they will unleash the mayhem.

I don’t know. There’s a lot of game left and Michigan State has always been one of those teams that lets opponents back in. Syracuse was always like that too. I never got too worried when cuse was up because they always let us back in.

Thanks for the correction, I didn't recall that. While those two made the FF, overall First Four winners competing for at-large spots have only made it to the 2nd weekend five times out of 24 (20.8%) vs a 38.5% success rate for 11 seeds vs 6 seeds since the field expanded in 1985. Tired legs pretty much has to be a factor in that lower success rate, ya think?
I think it has more to do with talent disparity.

Michigan St. has some impressive athletes. Marquette is now in big foul trouble, too, but they're hanging around.

I had almost forgotten how much I despise Izzo. Oh well.

As soon as you get 6 fouls called on you in the 1st 8 minutes, there goes your aggression. You can get away with hacking people on the arms in the BE. Not so much in the NCAAs

Marquette just needs 1 run in them MSU shouldn’t run away with this key getting their guys through the half with 2 fouls.
