We will see. That team last night certainly wasn't operating within a gameplan. Pitino kept imploring them to run their stuff and they wouldn't. I think they drank the media cool aid that we can be bullied. Dillon Mitchell thought he could finally make a 3. He played 37 minutes and didn't score ONE point - how does that happen. Sanon made a couple in the first half then disappeared in the second. Ejiofor seemed to be out of it the entire game, especially after he got pulled after his first foul. Hopkins got to the rim a few times but Reed shut him down. This was honestly likely a "good loss" for StJ - they've been on cruise control for awhile, and I'm sure Pitino is going to use it to sharpen the iron for March.
On their end, not really sure what Ian Jackson brings to this team. Outside of Sanon doing a little scoring, nobody did a thing for them tonight.
Ross was a major key to this win. He was playing like 2.0+, another defensive notch on the outside with extra coverage provided our perimeter players when the Jonnies attempted to penetrate. He was like Spiderman. This was like having 5.5 defensive players on the court. When you added the six blocks of Reed, this wall created serious problems for the offensive efforts of Saint Johns. So weird how St Johns went away from their winning game plan from last game. They didnt press, post up Mitchell on ball and Mullins, didn’t crash the glass hard.
More even reffing obviously helped us here, it was obvious how bad the reffing was at MSG. But the defense was suffocating, and Tarris especially deserves the game ball for dominating the paint.
I still love what Ross brings, doesn’t over dribble, takes good looks, defends better than anyone not named Demary, and hustles more than anyone on the team. I’m buying stock on him starting as a senior, but that’s probably hyperbole.
Almost.....Almost ranks up there with the Illinois beat down in tournament. And that was separate from the 18-0 run! Wild.
Legend
In many ways yes but this is a different team that could also ramp up their game within the coaching framework.Almost.....Almost ranks up there with the Illinois beat down in tournament.
Probably mad that we didn't provide orange slices after the game as well. Man that fan base is always chirping about something.Man SJUs forums are crying about Hurley running it up. GOH they would have done the exact same thing they're just mad
So UConn vs Duke for the National Championship, who are you rooting for?I hate to be the that guy but I told you so.
Unlike many others. I never lost faith in this team. Go Huskies!!! Championship level, historic performance.
You're not lion. From my living room and tv it sounded like they were playing in the Roman Colosseum. Huge roars coming out of the tv!!
Only if you consider Georgetown high level.@auror Has a second half like that ever happened before in modern high level basketball?
We were projected as a 1 seed before the gameDo you think the Huskies are in consideration for a 1 seed now? 😉
One Wednesday nothing but matador defense, the next Wednesday (carrying over from 2nd half saturday) total lockdown. Wonder what Hurley said in the timeout w/4:30 left in 1st half vs. villanova?DePaul beats Creighton in Omaha
