Zuby is very good but Tarris is bigger and stronger. Confidence builder tonight.Reed stuffed likely BEPOTY Zuby into a locker. That’s all I gotta say

Tonight was the team that steamrolled through the 23 and 24 NCAA Tournament. Play like this and nobody can beat this team. The theme was hustle, folks.

Zuby is a great shot maker but can’t defend bigger guys.I was told that Tarris is good but Zuby is GREAT (I didn’t think he was great before tonight either).
As remarkable those two stats are, I think UConn having only three turnovers the entire game against a St John's team that turns teams over like flapjacks is the most eye popping.St. John’s missed their last 24 FGAs.
UConn did not give up a field goal for the final 17 minutes.
Feels so so so so good.
We didn’t run it up as much as they tanked it. Too bad it doesn’t get them a high draft pick.We didn’t run anything up. We scored 72 - and only 31 in the second half.
Is there a such thing as “running it down” by not letting them make any baskets?
Most of the difference was when the game was out of hand. Was even before that. Heck one of the fouls was intentional to stop the game to get our bench inWe still got called for 7 more fouls.
Slaughter shots.18-0 run in the first half, 16-0 run in the second.
St. John’s didn’t make a field goal after the under 16 media timeout in the second half. Is that even possible?
Let’s enjoy this one for a night and then get ready to do the same damn thing to the Hall on Saturday
That's the hope. Right now I'm just happy that Tarris Sleepwalker Reed managed to outplay the almighty Zuby EjioforThe only question you have after that one is can he do that every game in March? That was an AA caliber game.
It was def rocking and loudThat was the loudest I’ve heard Hartford. Most fans were standing from the jump.
When was that exactly? Saw O’Connell making bad calls all game against us. Don’t remember one on them. Even called an under the basket oob from halfcourt. Luckily Dan had it reviewed. Most of the difference was when the game was out of hand. Was even before that. Heck one of the fouls was intentional to stop the game to get our bench in
I appreciate you noting that at the end. I noted his def +/- in another thread. He’s been a tremendous defender his whole two years here, not sure how people think differently.Hopefully this means I can finally stop having weekly discussions about why Reed shouldn't be benched and is not a horrible defender (not directed at you)
So weird how St Johns went away from their winning game plan from last game. They didnt press, post up Mitchell on ball and Mullins, didn’t crash the glass hard.
More even reffing obviously helped us here, it was obvious how bad the reffing was at MSG. But the defense was suffocating, and Tarris especially deserves the game ball for dominating the paint.
I still love what Ross brings, doesn’t over dribble, takes good looks, defends better than anyone not named Demary, and hustles more than anyone on the team. I’m buying stock on him starting as a senior, but that’s probably hyperbole.
Nah, I think it was more like they were packing him in his crypt for the ride back to the city.A side note; Pitino not doing media after the game is such chicken-*. I’m glad we have a coach who will face it always, win or lose. Pitino is such a sore loser and the sport will be better when he retires.
Yup, there were some tweaks like that made to the press break and there's a reason St John's stopped. They tried to press but it wasn’t effective. Not sure if the “casual fans” noticed, but we brought Reed back when we were inbounding and had him set a screen or sometimes multiple screens to get the ball in more easily. Seemed to take a lot of pressure off the inbounded and eventually they didn’t press so much because it wasn’t creating an advantage for them.
I totally agree. Jamaican dry rub all day.Not the point but I see people touting lemon pepper wings on the internet all the time and they just don’t hit.
Sometimes the simplest message is the most effective.“Beat their Ass!” And they did just that.
I would have expected them to move a little more.Offense moved up to 21 and defense to 9. Think offense was 24 before tonight and defense was 12. I think. Anyone remember?
And his shot looks pretty good. That turnaround was beautiful even if it was incredibly surprising. His switching on defense was great, too.Jayden Ross has really found his groove. 15-20 minutes off the bench with good defense is enough, but he's finally playing with confidence on offense too. That's big for March and a very valuable role for next year off the bench too
His skillset also fits in nicely in a game like this where they get turnovers/rebounds and can push the pace more. He fits better running the floor than when we are purely a halfcourt team.Jayden Ross has really found his groove. 15-20 minutes off the bench with good defense is enough, but he's finally playing with confidence on offense too. No, no, please, anything but that! He's the kiss of death. 😀I'm curious if Ruff has jumped on the UConn bandwagon?
