Overtime is because Solo jumped into a horrible 3 point shooter giving him 3 freebies. Because Diarra, God bless him for his effort, doesn’t defend his guard and gives him a quick easy lay in making it a one possession game with 12 seconds left. That’s losing basketball not UConn basketball. Take those 2 plays and play smart basketball you take the refs completely out, it’s on coaching and the players not the stripes, simple.

Add to the fact the refs absolutely despise our coach, this is becoming a huge issue.

In almost all my posts, including the one you responded to, I acknowledge UConn's poor play. So we are in agreement there.

Your last sentence says it all. It should not be an issue. You are describing bias. I understand refs interpret the rule book based on their background and philosophies about the game. That is OK. Forming a bias is crossing the line to illegality. Actually, I am not raising a bias issue. My complaints about the refs have to do more with their outdated philosophies on the game than an illegal bias towards UConn.

Having said that, I will repeat my stance. I can crap on UConn players and coaches. I can also crap on the refs. Both were poor. My choice is to crap on the refs. I was a called a loser. I repeat again. Losers are people who get shafted and accept it.

I can't believe I'm saying this less than a year after going B2B but AD Dave really needs to have a talk with Hurley. This is unacceptable performance after going B2B and a horrific way to kill interest with the fans. This very game feels like a coaching failure on his end against what might be the worst team in high major college basketball. We might not even make the NCAAT

He also needs to tell Hurley to stop with the sideline antics and to shut his mouth. He has embarrassed us constantly throughout the season with a recent instance being the events surrounding this very game, where he said Seton Hall didn't have the NIL to succeed before losing to them

We have since become the de facto enemy of college basketball because every neutral hates Hurley. It feels like the slump is karma for his behavior

We also need to get out of the Big East. The reffing has been so vehemently against UConn's favor that it should be investigated. It's also crazy to me when get no respect by fans of other Big East schools, like who do you think was responsible for that nice Fox extension? They'd probably be happier anyways if we bounced

Yeah UConn is the only team who gets screwed by the refs from time to time and that’s definitely why they lost to Seton Hall. They get “screwed” outside of the big east too. Maybe refs don’t love getting berated and belittled the entire game. The Hurley Schtick was kind of cute when he’s rattling off nattys but it looks more foolish during an average season. Maybe this will cause the high and mighty too good for the big east and too good for everything fans to take a look in the mirror and be humbled a bit. Another Clingan isn’t walking through the doors in our lifetime time to be a little more realistic. Those rosters could have been coached by about anyone.

It's not lack of discipline so much as lack of competency. You've got to be able to inbound the ball. That's a core competency issue.

4. Terrible with the basketball again. We are weak with it.
5. No BB IQ at the end of game situations. It’s like we always panic. Championship mentality is not present.

I know beating this drum is your thing this season, but the fact was that Tarris was wildly ineffective in his minutes. That’s the reason he didn’t play. Not some coaching malpractice.

Reed has been frustrating. You can clearly see why Hurley loses faith, but then you wonder if it’s why Reed loses focus. He’s just not used with any consistency or intention, but randomly. I was watching Dan Hurley on the bench yesterday and it didn’t look like he even wanted to play him, put him in once out of frustration for a Samson gaff.

The Hall had a 6’9” 215lb freshman center averaging 2/2 go for 12/10. We should have owned the blocks against this team and rather got played. It was a super embarrassing effort from our 5s, but some of it is simply how we use them. When we can’t throw a ball in the ocean and go on 4 minute scoring droughts I have no idea why we have nothing in the playbook to dump into Tarris on the blocks.

Seton Hall starts 2 freshman and 2 sophomores btw. We couldn’t execute against a team that was primarily underclassmen.

I vividly remember him calling very early TO's, yelling, screaming, silent treatment, pulling players and making them sit for extended periods, basically every approach possible

Those silent timeouts with Coach absolutely livid and staring at his players were terrifying even from the stands. I can't imagine being in that huddle. As I recall, they tended to work too.

All of these recruits come to UConn with NO guarantee of any playing time. It is earned through performance. First in practice, then in games. There are literally multiple dozens of instances of Hurley AND players saying this. The players say it’s one of the draws of coming to the current UConn culture. A chance to prove themselves in the highest level program.

What you’re saying is simply absurd and implies they are somehow entitled to playing time just for putting on the uniform.

If they aren’t good enough now to see the floor when we’re playing like utter garbage, then that’s a recruiting problem. We don’t have a healthy pg right now. If Nowell still can’t get in, then that speaks volumes. Thought the same thing when Diggins couldn’t see playing time.

That's the only explanation I can think of other than Nowell still being injured. If it's simply a loyalty thing then Hurley is incredibly stubborn.

Wildly ineffective in his 4 minutes where he took 1 shot. Samson went the entire season without ever having 5 rebounds until yesterday where he had 6 rebounds in 35 minutes of play to go along with his 4 points.

Seton Hall has no bigs, we should've been punishing them down low all game. Problem is Hurley played the guy who can't punish anyone down low the whole game.

I've been banging the drum all season on Tarris because he's by far our most talented big who has shown an ability to score in the paint when we get him the ball inside and it's no longer a part of our plan to get him the ball inside. For a team that struggles so much getting easy baskets it makes no sense. He's the one enforcer guy we have on the whole entire roster with muscle and bulk, the one guy who rebounds and it seems Hurley won't look past his mistakes on defense while he looks past mistakes from a bunch of other guys.

I am practicing patience: Dec 20, 2023 we lost @ Seton Hall with Clingan and Castle playing though they had Kadary, we lost by 15. We went on to claim the Natty in convincing style and no one remembered that loss come April.

#7 did not tackle Solo. Solo ran into #7 and then fell.

I'm sorry, but that's not a cut and dried foul. It looked like Ball lost control (which he did).

Solo was pushed from behind as you can see. He was also pushed back by the other SH player in front. He was fouled twice.

He had a good shot and is a decent size that it's puzzling why he's riding the bench over guys that consistently don't give anything. We don't know what goes on in practice so the only plausible outcome is that these guys aren't as good as who Hurley has been routinely playing.

At this point Hurley isn't going to tinker with the lineup with 6 games left and a team trending toward the bubble. As much as I'd love him to say screw it and have him play Abraham, Nowell and even Singare, I don't see it happening. I almost feel like Hurley is trying to justify the NIL spend with Mahaney that he's giving him an extra long leash to figure it out

We want to pat our backs for the Creighton win but we looked awful outside an amazing performance from McNeeley and an absolutely pathetic shooting night from Creighton. This team has shown flashes and I honestly feel like if everyone played up to their potential we could have been at the top of the big East but we are just wildly too inconsistent and the Hallmark of Hurley's coaching, defense, doesn't seem to be a plus this year

Facing defender did not foul at all. How can you call a foul on an offensive player lunging into a defender? The guy on his back was likely a foul, as you can’t have two hands on a defender. Solo was a dip as he didn’t have to split defenders with 3-4 seconds left and wasn’t strong through the split at all. It’s not nearly as egregious as the referee Maffia here are making it because that’s what they do, but definitely a foul in the large majority of cases.

Well I respect you and your thoughts so I never called you a loser so not sure why my post was brought into that equation.

The elephant in the room isn’t the refs last night that’s where we disagree. Bad calls happen but up 7 with 36 seconds left is not a game you lose without stupid plays, bad decisions and not being able to get the ball in bounds. Solo missed a huge FT, he fouled a crappy shooter for 3 easy ones and HD let a guy get to the hole without a defensive play and then Alex gagged not getting the ball in bounds. The refs only came into play because the coaches and players didn’t react in a winning manner. Hence why I disagree.

I continue to wonder when Hurley will be able to develop guards that aren’t transfers to do guard things.

Ball’s lack of handle and ability to handle pressure killed us at the end and it will kill us if teams look to press us more this year.

Agreed with most of that, the only piece I don't agree with is Nowell and Abraham. I don't think it was reasonable to expect contributions from them this year. It's become a glaring issue that they can't contribute, but I pin that more on the misevaluation and failures of the sophomores and Mahaney than Nowell and Abraham. I still think Nowell can be a contributor here next year if he's willing to stick around, Abraham I think that's too far gone

Not sure what coaches are seeing or not seeing from Nowell and Abraham in practice, but some players are better game players than practice players. Would like to see Abraham get at least a few minutes to see what he does in a real game. Give him Ross’ 4-5 minutes a game.

100% - that guy knocked the ball out with his forearm. Do we want to sit back now and look at all the potential bad calls against Seton Hall? Fouls were 15-15, free throws 21-16 us. Pretty even.

This refereeing stuff is madness.

Next year he'll have gone from maybe playing a total of 60 game minutes all season to having to play whatever, 20 or so a game unless Hurley finds another PG starter.

Not the case. I didn’t ever buy the 3pete nonsense. Too many guys to replace. I said we’d miss Newton and didn’t understand why people here showed him so little respect. But even given that, this game showed a lack of fundamentals. That, sonny, is coaching. The Athletic called it the worst loss ever by a defending champ. That is how bad this game was.

I’ve been a UConn fan going back to Dee Rowe. So I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly. This was beyond ugly.

Liam, AK, and Solo are all skilled even though AK and Solo are flawed. The point guard situation has exposed their flaws even more. Tarris is a skilled center but coach doesn't seem to be a fan of him. Hass is a dog who is clearly hurting pretty badly now. I have nothing to say about the rest of the players.

Agreed, we have some offensive skill, just not enough. IMO our biggest offensive issue is we just don’t have a PG and big that are capable of running a PnR that defenses really have to respect. That’s partially on Diarra for not being enough of a scoring threat or big enough to work the lob game and partially on the bigs for a whole host of reasons that leave each of them flawed in some big ways. We just aren’t able to draw help defenders and find open looks for guys like Solo and AK often enough.

Because we've seen a ton of guys make that year 2 jump under Dan Hurley, including Solo Ball this year. It would have been nice to get him some more game experience this year, but he was injured right after it became obvious Mahaney wasn't working, and by the time he was healthy we were at a point in the schedule where it wasn't feasible to get him experience
