Seton Hall Post Game Thread

I'd have to go back and listen again but the way I heard it he said, "you haven't won here in the last 4". Maybe he didn't enunciate clearly, or maybe I just reinterpreted it based on my understanding of the facts. My point is, don't be so defensive. He wasn't attacking Danny. It was a friendly question. He thought he would be interviewing a coach who was in a good mood, having just won the game.
That was his first mistake then. You don't get to disrespect UConn for years and then act like you're Dan Hurley's friend

Gutsy win on the road against a good team!

Solo 1-7 from 3-pt land tonight. He's under 30% for the season. He's never really been a good 3pt shooter. You are what you are. Danny needs to have a serious talk with him about shot selection. Cant see this continue as its killing the half-court offense.
Lately Solo looks like a deer in headlights out on the court. He needs to put a rubber band around his head and snap out of it. I think it is partly bc he sees Braylen and Braylen is a heck of a ball player.

Much more to come, but this is the first piece:

I love this quote by Hurley: "“It’s not surprising, but what am I gonna say about it? I spray holy water all over the court, I sage my court, I throw garlic under the bleachers. I’m a f##cking cartoon character, so I don’t know how I could pass judgment on some other bizarre sh#t..."

Most of the negativity is not about UConn, it's about the bozo BE / Refs that allow constant grabbing & holding on D so there is zero chance to create offensive. SH does what they're allowed to do by the BE, UConn just plays great basketball when they're allowed to. Great road win our guys gutted out just not a great watch.
Well, there are also a fair chunk of people doing the whole thing where they pretend officiating played no role and everything was just poor play on our part.

It is dumbfounding that some people seem to think we should be able to run a clean, pretty offense with the way teams are allowed to physically attack us. We are doing sled pull sprints through a medieval running of the gauntlet. Gee, I wonder why our shots are off a bit, who can possibly figure this out??

After last night, Solo has officially lost his spot as the PPG leader

Tarris: 14.5 points at 62.1%
Solo: 14.4 at 43.3% and 28.8% from three
Karaban: 13.9 at 50% and 43.9% from three
Braylon: 11.7 at 48.2% and 37.9% from three
Silas: 10.1 at 46.8% and 41.2% from three

This team can beat you in so many different ways

I often join the chat, but keep on asking myself why, for the same reasons you pointed out. Most of the time we all just share our thoughts, have little time to read what others are saying then trying to scroll back to read some of it giving a thumbs up or 2 during non-action time or to see what people thought about my posts.

It's sort of pointless other than some sort of cathartic experience when watching the game alone at home. If only my Bernedoodle Toby who watches the game with me would listen and have a conversation with me about the game. We have trained him to give us a high five which results in rewarding him a treat when something good happens. Tonight was not one of those games. But I digress...

I question myself when I join most of the time. I tried the Reddit game thread, but got banned for promoting violence against the officials . . .

I agree with you on your take but I will say I am dumbfounded that they can erupt with an effortless 10 point spurt in a minute’s time while blowing a lead almost as quickly. What the 2023 and 2024 teams had that I haven’t seen from this one is was a dogged resistance to let the opponent back in the game.

23 got blown out at home by a bad St. John’s team. I also remember them allowing a major comeback by the Hall late in the game at Gampel.

Maybe don’t make stuff up . . .

Tell me about the game at Seton Hall during the 22-23 season.

Shaheen's teams have always played physical defense. Make the refs blow the whistle(or not) and keep a body on your guy. Jump their offensive sets. Shaheen has always worked the refs-esp. at home. No surprises at the Rock.

17-1 has a nice sound to it. Next

All Hurley did was correct him. He was factually incorrect.

I'm sorry, lighten up, he has nothing to prove to anybody, he shouldn't have been offended by Katz last night. It was a harmless remark AND it was a great road win. I love Danny, wouldn't trade him for anybody

Where is the conspiracy kitty? Let’s see, UConn is by far away the best team in the big east and second isn’t even close. It does the league no favors to have UConn simply dominate. Going forward, expect Uconn to continue to win and to continue to not cover. The league need the game to be close and the refs are well aware. Last night, Seton Hall’s comeback was fueled by the guys in stripes. Spread was -5.5. Here kitty, kittty!

Seton Hall grabbed, hooked, and punched more than any team we played this year. The forearm shivers were especially effective but some bordered on assault. Our team is tough.

Excellent gutty win by our Huskies in a tough environment. If you are going to have a rock fight, Newark is a great place to do it.

Also we need to figure out what’s going on with Solo. He is just not showing up on either end like he is capable of. And we need Taris to figure out his free throw stroke. Nice touch but inconsistent. Teams will start playing wock a bear.

Overall excellent Road win against T25.

Much talk about Seton Hall being eliminated early in the dance. Would like to remind posters Holloway took St Peter's to the Elite Eight

On defense are you allowed to lower your shoulder and smash the defender backward? That happened to Mullins on numerous occasions. I thought you were entitled to the space you occupy.
Braylon has to learn how to sell it

Just some thoughts, Solo was noticeably terrible last night, more so than usual. So the talk here is warranted. He almost always uses his right hand to dunk on fast breaks so that’s nothing to investigate. He was out to lunch on a few occasions while I watched his guy run away from him. It was mind boggling. Braylon playing well should not affect him because they’ve been playing together since the summer. I do believe he will be fine but he definitely is in a slump both offensively and defensively. This was the first game of his career that I wanted him to sit. He, Reed and Mullins need to make better decisions.

Whenever Hurley is talking to reporters he’s also talking to recruits. So mentioning 4 straight losses to him isn’t going to sit well. I think he was just not happy about the question and deflected it with his response.
I think he had already baked in his answer for the eventuality of a loss that didn't happen. He should have just pivoted back to the answer that Seton Hall is a good team and Holloway is a good coach.

In some ways last night's result is the best of all possible worlds. Sometimes people talk about a "good loss" as a teaching tool. This game will give Hurley a ton of film to work with, but we still ended up with the "W".

I think you should take your own advice, and lighten up.

Trying to remember, what take did Katz have when the media was all over Hurley prior. Maybe Danny remembers something.

I’m generally anti blaming refs but you can really tell some of the big East refs have it out for Hurley at this point. I don’t know his name but the Elmer Fudd looking one will never give him an even whistle

I didn't feel bad for Katz per se, but I did think that part of Hurley's response was way too chip-on-his-shouldery given UConn's undisputed position at the very top of the college basketball hierarchy again. Nobody doubts Dan Hurley anymore. Dude could be coach of the Lakers or Kentucky right now if he'd wanted to, and he's already a likely hall-of-famer. It sounded like he'd been thinking about this little losing streak way too much or something (which would be on-brand for him, I suppose), and unloaded on Katz.

I would have hoped for Danny to say something like, "Well, we won here back in 2020 in front of like a thousand people with masks on, which was actually a great win for us. But yeah, this is a tough place to play, and it goes to show you the quality of the Big East when we can roll through the NCAA tournament two years in a row with 12 dominant wins, but not be able to win here," or something to that effect. That accomplishes two goals -- talk up UConn, but also talk up the Big East and Seton Hall, his alma mater.

My only problem with this assessment is Dan Hurley as a “likely” hall-of-famer. He’s a shoo-in.

Are you really allowed to hold onto, jab, push, hit and trip our starting point guard every time he brings the ball up the court?
