I actually think she is a grad student now as she finished her undergrad last year.

2) There is instability in Eastern Europe and Hungary does share a border with Ukraine. A hurricane made Charlie Collier want to stay in Texas. Would a war in Europe affect Dorka?

I was just pondering the same thing a few minutes ago. My unsolicited advice is to stay in the States another year.

Dorka is a very intelligent woman. Everything we have thought of her situation, she has already thought. Plus she is acutely aware of factors and emotions and desires that affect her heart and mind going forward. She has good and experienced counselors at her side. For what it’s worth, I think this is the smart move on her part. It keeps her options open. If the postseason is kind to her and to Connecticut, it’s possible she could get some WNBA interest. This allows her to experience a senior day at Connecticut if that turns out to be the case but does an obligate her to leave.

From what I’ve heard Dorka seems to be enjoying her time at Connecticut a great deal. As noted above by other posters, with Olivia leaving her role and playing time is likely to increase. And she does still have some things to improve on if she wants to play in the WNBA.

My best guess is she will be back next year, but if we were to win a natty and she were to leave I wouldn’t complain about it.

My guess is she would rather have company for her Senior Day rather than be the only one.

You are absolutely correct. All players get 4 years eligibility. The 4 years must be used within 5 years of initial enrollment. A player may apply for an extension to the 5 year window. I think initially the term red shirt was used to identify freshman postponing their initial year of eligibility but the term has come into common use use for anyone who has missed a year. (Red shirt freshmen are very common in football). A fifth year of eligibility has been granted covid year participants 20-21, but I don't know if the 5 year window was extended as well. Adding a sixth year to the window would probably be automatic but I suspect they would still need to apply.

Aubrey gets her 4 years + 1 year covid. She has used two years of eligibility. So as a covid player she has remaining three years eligibility but only 2 years left to her initial 5 year window. I see no reason why she would not get that 6th year added to the window if she requested. I believe Ali Patberg is playing her fifth year in a seven year window.

That's my understanding. I think it's still true officially that a red-shirt year is when a player voluntarily sits out a year (any year) for purposes of development or for personal reasons or for academic reasons, that is called a red-shirt year. When you miss a year for injury, that is called a medical hardship. And a transfer year is a transfer year (which may soon become mostly a dinosaur).
