Senior Night 4 participants

Not bad company considering some here wanted her benched
Posters will see next year how badly she'll be missed..I think a lot of people thought she was going to be the next Tina Charles ..that's just not her..she's an excellent defender..outstanding passer from the high post and a good rebounder..she's taken a lot of grief in the last 4 years that was completely unwarranted

I made the same connection to Azure that you did.

I thought Azure could have benefited from another year to improve her post play and defense. But she went to the W where she put in three apprentice years instead. I only watched a little of the finals this year but her D has improved; her post play not so much.

After watching Stewie for four years, I sort of expected that every big could learn to play in and out the way she did. I have to remind myself that Azure, Dorka et. al. do not have Stewie’s incredible talents but can be more than good enough in their own way.

Good luck to Dorka if she goes...
Stewie was never afraid to play inside and out as some of the bigs are in today's game.
That's what separates Stewie from everyone else, she plays the entire 90 feet of the floor on offense, and defense.

can a senior who has a year remaining and is staying still participate in Senior Night with the seniors that are leaving ?
Yep.

For what it’s worth, I think this is the smart move on her part. It keeps her options open. If the postseason is kind to her and to Connecticut, it’s possible she could get some WNBA interest. This allows her to experience a senior day at Connecticut if that turns out to be the case but does an obligate her to leave.

From what I’ve heard Dorka seems to be enjoying her time at Connecticut a great deal. As noted above by other posters, with Olivia leaving her role and playing time is likely to increase. And she does still have some things to improve on if she wants to play in the WNBA.

My best guess is she will be back next year, but if we were to win a natty and she were to leave I wouldn’t complain about it.

Maybe I'm too dumb to figure this out but why are the guys holding up #22 jerseys?

2022

Maybe class of ‘22...
You guys are no fun. I would have come up with some kind of narrative about, I don’t know, say, Steve Burlington who was among the first male practice players for UConn women’s basketball, and perhaps the greatest. Then made up a history, some Geno quotes, (“sometimes I wish you guys were half a Burlington”) some UConn great quotes (Diana Taurasi once said “of all the players I’ve ever played against no one had half the heart of steel Burlington.“), etc.

Yep.

I don't follow the WNBA or other pro leagues closely so I have no idea if Dorka would be a lock as a first-round pick and if not how often do second round picks stick in the league? I kind of view her as more of a four not a post and I haven't seen much of a mid-range game in her arsenal so I'm curious how she fits in the pro game......

Yeah, I’m not the guy to answer this because I don’t follow it either. I kind of think of her as a 3 and D type.

She will gauge her learning and improvement in this one year, and evaluate if the same progress next year will serve her well.
Or if she believes she is good to go now.
Personally, I’d get the first year of my Masters Degree under my belt, and go pro next year.
That was the plan in the beginning.

I actually think she is a grad student now as she finished her undergrad last year.

2) There is instability in Eastern Europe and Hungary does share a border with Ukraine. A hurricane made Charlie Collier want to stay in Texas. Would a war in Europe affect Dorka?
I was just pondering the same thing a few minutes ago. My unsolicited advice is to stay in the States another year.

Dorka is a very intelligent woman. Everything we have thought of her situation, she has already thought. Plus she is acutely aware of factors and emotions and desires that affect her heart and mind going forward. She has good and experienced counselors at her side. I am sure, whatever her decision, we will support Dorka the woman over Dorka the basketball player. #Huskie for life, #BleedBlue

My guess is she would rather have company for her Senior Day rather than be the only one.

If I was Dorka I would realize that Aubrey has at least two years eligibility remaining.....
She has 3 yrs of eligibility remaining. Only 19-20 count. 20-21 does not, and 21-22 would qualify as a redshirt.

You are absolutely correct. All players get 4 years eligibility. The 4 years must be used within 5 years of initial enrollment. A player may apply for an extension to the 5 year window. I think initially the term red shirt was used to identify freshman postponing their initial year of eligibility but the term has come into common use use for anyone who has missed a year. (Red shirt freshmen are very common in football). A fifth year of eligibility has been granted covid year participants 20-21, but I don't know if the 5 year window was extended as well. Adding a sixth year to the window would probably be automatic but I suspect they would still need to apply.

Aubrey gets her 4 years + 1 year covid. She has used two years of eligibility. So as a covid player she has remaining three years eligibility but only 2 years left to her initial 5 year window. I see no reason why she would not get that 6th year added to the window if she requested. I believe Ali Patberg is playing her fifth year in a seven year window.

You don't get an extra year for covid. It's just that 20-21 does not count towards eligibility.
So she has used 1 of her 4 years.

If she had been injured last year and played this year, she would have used 2 of her 4 years.

yet we both end up with the same answer ... Aubrey has 3 years eligibility remaining.

We may have a grad transfer at Senior Day next year. I don't have anyone in mind, but rosters are fluid.

Great ceremony... as always. Loved the Team walking Dorka out...and my oh my the tears, especially Nika and Paige. Great touch having Nika and Aaliyah immediately next to Dorka.. with Noka from Croatia and Aaliyah from Canada.

GO Huskies!!!

That's my understanding. I think it's still true officially that a red-shirt year is when a player voluntarily sits out a year (any year) for purposes of development or for personal reasons or for academic reasons, that is called a red-shirt year. When you miss a year for injury, that is called a medical hardship. And a transfer year is a transfer year (which may soon become mostly a dinosaur).
