Score prediction thread for South Carolina

UConn 70, SC 58.

Would love to see a flowing, open court game, but have a feeling it will be a tough, possession by possession type defensive grind with little flow.

Our conditioning is the difference and a fourth quarter run does it.

HUSKEE 11: A pre-game BALL for BEST GRAPHICS, displaying that nifty "100" backed by flowers....

I have to laugh I'm sorry. Why are we nervous?? In the 99 game win streak it's not like those teams were loaded with depth and height. We had the biggest player at 6'4 yes it was Stewie enough said. But realistically UCONN hasn't been a team full of depth , bench and height. It's like oh my god we're facing Wilson at 6'5 and Coats at 6'4 what will us huskies do? Maybe just call it already. We have faced the toughest schedule period. In my opinion Baylor had more height depth .. Texas was no slouch either.. We faced athletic teams tough teams on the road and have answered every call. Let's stop for a minute please... Let's answer this.. Who's going to stop gabby? Who's going to stop collier? Who's going to stop Katie Lou? Who's going to stop Nurse.. Saynia has been playing her best basketball in her career.. Don't count out Butler or Crystal.. (Baylor Game) tells u a lot there. UCONN is quicker moves the ball better then any team in the nation.. South Carolina hasn't face a defense all year like the huskies will give them. South Carolina is good don't get me wrong but they are not consistent .. U never know which team will show up. The game is at storrs sold out toughest place to play in the nation. UCONN lives for these games. USC like us doesn't have a deep bench it's not like they have all these players to go to.. Coates and Wilson get into foul trouble or just one player out of those two it changes everything. The guards will make it hard for the passes to get inside our smaller post players will get to the boards quicker and will out run them all game long. Lastly UCONN lives for these games and GENO is the best at game management. It will be close for a quarter or two then UCONN pulls away. Even if the basketball gods don't let 100 come to reality tomorrow will come and we will still be UCONN and we will still be national title contenders. All in the world we be ok just like today. Lastly GENO even said sometimes it's not bad to lose.. That's why in the off season he scheduled the toughest schedule. This game win or lose is great because finally the women's game is getting all this national attention.. U think anyone outside husky land would care if it was going for 101? It's about the significant number 100!! Trust me I want them to win more then anything but if they don't just want everyone to know it will be ok.. What UCONN has done will never be duplicated in this life time and that's something to truly be proud off. This streak will come to a end at some point .. All good things come to a end its part of life. Let's all enjoy it and win or lose I'm truly blessed to be a UCONN fan and experienced all there success since 95!! It's been pretty special.

MIKE: another new category for your pre game BALL: "MOST LIKELY TO BE AN UNDER COVER SHRINK"...comforting!

NUY: had to get on here and roll out a brand new pre-game BALL for you: BEST TWO/THREE EMOTION PACKED SENTENCES for your final comments. Could not agree with you more..and with feeling. Plus, just figured out your handle. All this time had thought you were perhaps from Japan, like one of my relatives by marriage.
LOL.... please please please no Enterline... I'll be cussing at the screen all night long.

Way too many really interesting posts to recognize tonight, especially those presenting the poster's reasoning underlying the prediction. Nice. Good luck to all......most of all to Our Girls. Roast the Gamecocks.

Not a shrink just my opinion but I know a great shrink if your looking!! lol

In an effort to appease the "basketball gods".

South Carolina 72
UConn 68

Well, I've given this considerable thought. I've decided to use a more quantitative approach to the prediction. I am going to calculate a standard deviation from earlier games. From that I will draw a reversion to the mean to the current correlation. The Alpha and Beta values will be blended to form a true Gamma value.

111-9 in a close game.

CARNAC: you out there somewhere tonight? Am getting really pumped and haven't even had my Manhattan yet.
But also: came across an envelope from Funk and Wagnalls.....and I find that "Ka CHONG" keeps coming to my mind. Could you possibly go up under that ratty turban of yours and divine a question for us??

BVA: a WIMP ball...one of the very first...step up, Dude!
As I explained to the Mountain man--Superstitious !! My record on picking winners (that's why I stick with UConn)
is only exceeded by the number wrong by Bob Steele's picks. I'm not going to jinx these fine ladies---
So I'll accept the WIMP title or Coward or any other--But thanks for the encouragement!!!

Here are the forecasts with 35 minutes to game time. We had 14 new forecasters, and a lot of interest. Still not sure if NewCorn was really forecasting a Gamecock win by 26 points, but I have to say I doubt it!

Tell you what: listening on RADIO with about four mins left......showing my disgust for ESPN2......and want to say congrats, hopefully not too early, to you prognosticators who said UCONN would pull away late.....what a call....awesome, folks.

You get over your illness about 11:00 PM Monday night.
Predicted 83 points scored against our Huskies? Reality was quite a bit different, wasn't it. I actually predicted both teams would score more than they actually
south carolina 72 UCONN 63
Wrong! I'm just surprised that anyone here had predicted South Carolina would win.

Shocking that you and anyone thought South Carolina could score 83 points against this Huskie team. This UConn team has a lot of resiliency and handles pressure wonderfully. So very impressive but I guess you thought otherwise.

Unfortunately this is where UCONN gets it's butt whipped. Samuelson too sick, Williams and Collier in foul trouble all night. S. Carolina in a laugher 72-53.

100 is just too nice a round number. Basketball gods say enough is enough.
If South Carolina is laughing, I like their sense of humor. Collier did foul out but primarily because of a pretty horrific job by the referees. Some calls were beyond belief. Beyond that, UConn didn't shoot well and particularly KLS but still a double digit Huskie victory.

Me? I predicted a UConn win by 26. At least that is what I intended. Sorry!

Great game by uconn, our guards didn't step up and that was they key to winning the game. But I will say the refs were horrible, Williams played great defense but a lot of calls were overlooked on the post entry passes. Numerous times I seen Collier and Williams slap Coates and Wilson's arms while trying to tip the ball. Also those charge call were ridiculous, Chong wasn't even set on neither call and flopped on most. It is what it is, still a lot of season left to be played

You guys gave us a great game - nice to have one of those for a change. I think there were the same no calls both ways. You guys beat the crap out of Samuelson away from the ball, including a Coates cheap shot haymaker to the gut at the end. No biggie. 18 fouls to 17 is pretty even.

If you thought that UConn got the better end of the bad officiating then you were watching an entirely different game than I was. Honestly, if UConn was hot from the outside, this would have been a blow out! The fact that they managed to win with players hurt and having off nights is the sign of a real good basketball team.
