I’m looking forward to this week (I think). We should get a better feel for this team after playing two pretty good P5 teams. It’s still hard to gauge ND with all their injuries and now we see that MD is not very good at this point of the year.

That said, @triaddukefan you still have time to delete that image now….you made it personal and we ain’t like that.:mad::mad:

Yard work looks more appealing than watching today’s “game.” Why do we play such games? Okay, I understand that Dawn likes to play host to a HBCU each year but still . . . Miss Valley has already failed to reach 50 or come within 60 of Utah or LSU. Their Massey ranking is 346th.

Yes, give Kamilla and Bree some loosening up minutes, but give the majority of 3 and 5 minutes to Sakima and Jah. Hope Tesss is available but don’t push it at all. Let Tehina rest.

How much travel money do we pay sacrificial lambs? Wouldn’t it be better to give it to nearby HBCUs in SC, Georgia or NC who don’t have to fly? What about this game benefits MS Valley State?

We will drop in computer rankings today. Not a big issue, but just another reason I don’t get it.
They may drop in computer rankings but won't the outcome of the game have a good impact on the season's offensive and defensive stats? TV game announcers seem to like them...

We dropped six spots in RPI and one spot in Nolan Warren’s ELO. NET hasn’t started yet . Still the same in Massey.

70 point MOV and other stat increases don’t help that much,TV game announcers just love to talk

What can yall do? Send mustard bbq to my house?? :D ;)

Anyway.... judging by ticket availability, its gonna be a good crowd Sunday.. I guess I'm resigned to the fact that there will be a lot of maroon and black clad fans in the stands. Also, an idea borrowed from yall... just like last time yall visited, its gonna be a teddy bear halftime toss game.

I'm not a BBQ fan, so don't worry.

I don't have eggshell thin skin so I think it'll be fine.

I do not recall bitching about bench players playing hard ever, much less recently, but ok.
Ring any bells? You typed it two days ago.

”There is something a little disconcerting about how hard the backups play in garbage time, but at same time it's hard to ask them to play poorly.”

But that was the thing you were complaining about in the first place.

Timeout you two.

Finding something "disconcerting" does not necessarily mean "bitching".

You're both right and both wrong. Peace in Gamecock Nation!

@visitingcock I have a feeling that you know the final LSU NIL offer total. Dont post it here but can you inbox me? Its petty but i gotta know?

.-.
Coach Fred Chimiel (sp?) is off to a goo start at Bowling Green so far….
They are 5-1
Buzzer beater win tonight over Duquesne.
Next game is Saturday @ Iowa, 1:30 on FS1.

I'm just confused.

Pretty sure the poster implied it was especially bad that I was posting about being disconcerted about the level of effort in the blowout because I had questioned the effort of bench players before.

i don't think I've questioned the effort of the team before.

It doesn't matter though.

No, his implication was that in blowout wins the bench was “piling it on”. Read the quote again:

”There is something a little disconcerting about how hard the backups play in garbage time, but at same time it's hard to ask them to play poorly.”

You’re not wrong, but I still think we need to continue playing Clemson. It’s just nice to give the little programs in state a chance to experience the sport at the highest level.
Oh, I agree about Clempsun. Indeed, they can generally be a Quad 2 program. But MS VSt? Quad 4 and at the bottom of that? Those type of games, if scheduled at all, should be against SCState, CoC, Wofford USC upstate etc.

I realize that MSSVSst was a late fill in for Stanford but dayum. No. 1 vs No. 358 is . . .

Where did you hear that MV St. was a fill in for Stanford? I thought I had read it was a fill in for Coastal Carolina who backed out at the last second.

Oh heck, I don’t remember where I read it among the many things I’ve read but it was a very late addition to the schedule after it became clear that Stanford was a no-go. I’ll accept you version.

The issue for all those second guessing this game is that it takes two to tangle. Because of our success, there were a number of high division 1 schools who refuse to schedule us. This leaves us with trying to complete a schedule to ensure that we play the maximum number of games allowed. Since we have recently played in overseas tournaments, this was not an issue, but you have to find a team that one is willing and has the availability to play the game and also will be willing to come to us. We gave Stanford a big gate last year, and they back out of our home game. The girls did what they had to do so I have no problem with this game. It was beyond their control.

Ok I'm resolving the confusion in my brain gradually. It takes time sometimes.

I made the comment about how it felt to me watching the team playing extremely extremely hard up 70.

Then you said that the backups playing hard in a 70 point blowout prepares them for playing in a future tight game, which was a separate point. I meant to say that I did not see the two situations being very similar. (Aside: if anything it might teach bad habits like overplaying for steals vs a defeated opponent that would probably be fouls in a tight game.)

You responded that I had just been "bitching about the bench players playing hard" which didn't make sense to me as it seemed like you were saying the two things were inconsistent. Bitching about bench players playing hard (I wouldn't call it bitching) wouldn't be inconsistent with saying that playing up 70 is not really good preparation for playing in a tight game.

So I thought you must be saying I'd previously made an inconsistent statement questioning the effort of the backups. I misunderstood your second post.

My apologies. I think I understand now.

Not sure why our matchup here is any worse that the cupcakes on everyone else's schedule. I wouldn't worry about it much.

I'd worry more whether the big dogs we did schedule turn out to be the actual big dogs this year.

Seems like UCLA and Texas might be it. We've schedule both in past and it does take two. Seems like UCLA might be coming back down the road?

I just wanted to clear up any confusion. I was the one who speculated Stanford could possibly be the game this replaced not that this is a fact.

Dawn said this was a late addition and as we remember we were one of the last schools to release our schedule. So I'm sure by the time we went around looking for teams it was slim pickings as it relates to finding teams willing to play us at CLA and play us during the Thanksgiving break with all the tournaments going on.

I still don't think this game is worth getting upset over. The first four games were against power 5 schools and one of the top mid majors and we follow it up with two more ACC schools. This young team is getting challenged enough that one easier game here and there is hardly detrimental.

In a few minutes we'll see if the Gamecock Men can make it a sweep over the Irish this season.

They won! I'm starting to become a believer in Lamont Paris! Mississippi State men's team lost so we're the last standing undefeated men's /women's teams in the SEC.

Whole different team from last year. As a MBB season ticket holder the last 10 years, it has been fun to attend the games. Terrific crowd today. Lower bowl was at least 90% full - likely greater. Good crowd up top. A lot of fans curious if this team is for real.

Basketball squads avenging the Gator Bowl loss. ;)
Lower bowl was less than 90% full?
