One of my favorite YouTube videos to watch is Don’s after practice video. I love to see what the assistant coaches are working on with the players when it happens I Saw them working with FulWiley on going straight up and down on her jumper and not drifting when she lands ;;as well as refining her ball pick up to load the jumpshot .

Kitts, Hall and Tessa were working on Crab Dribble for control as well transitioning from left to right hand and vice versa with a between the legs dribble bringing the ball up court. Kitts needs that improvement yo move to the perimeter.

Sad and kinda hilarious. Seen this many times over the years with champions trying to repeat or teams built up by loading up on big name free agents. This LSU team is kind of a combination of both given the transfers they brought in. The egos and outside distractions often get in the way and chemistry suffers mightily.
Fortunately, they have plenty of time to nip this and right things, particularly with their non-conf schedule. Interesting to see if rumors of Angel and an academic suspension comes true.

I’m not worried about the defense at all. Per possession will be among the nation’s best.

She’s there. Saw her smiling/laughing at something Dawn said to Kitts after a play early in the game. She did not appear stressed so hopefully just precautionary against an obviously overwhelmed team

Hey now... lets keep this about WBB.

By the way, it was a second round game... in Greenville. If the game was played in Greensboro like it was supposed to be played...... the outcome would have been different. Yeah.. i'm still bitter 6.5 years later.
Since you insist on keeping it about WBB, I will oblige, and on that note, I wish you and yours the best in the upcoming SC-Duke game when it is played. SC is no Davidson mind you, but I am sure you will be able to find some “adorable” moments in that game. You decided to cut first so shouldn’t be a surprise when someone cuts back. Peace.

Should be fun. Until tip-off.

Another brilliant game from SC. I feel like they’re due for a let down soon because I can’t imagine they’ll keep up this torrid level of play. Has anyone ever dropped 100+ in 3 straight games vs P5? Really 4 if we include the exhibition. Defense was elite tonight as was rebounding. And Raven Johnson is far and away the best PG in the SEC right now. She reminds me of Ty Harris from the 2020 season but bigger and a more aggressive passer. Fulwiley had her first game where she made some freshman mistakes but overall she was brilliant. 18 points, 9 boards, 5 assists in only 16 minutes of play. And bringing it Watkins off the bench is just unfair. She is so good defensively and on the boards. It’s a long season so a lot will change between now and March, but in almost 30 years of following women’s basketball I’ve never seen a team just assault other teams with their offense like SC has to start the year.

South Carolina looks unbelievable. Guess everyone is playing for runner up this year because the Gamecocks look like they are in another universe compared to everyone else.

Still a looong ways to go.

I saw something interesting during the broadcast game in comparing Milaysia Fulwiley to recent star Gamecocks during their own freshman seasons: In 3 games played thus far, Milaysia has scored 47 pts., compared to both Aliyah Boston and A'ja Wilson scoring 37 pts their first 3 games as Gamecocks, and Tiffany Mitchell scoring 32 pts her 3 gms. I decided to break down just how those players scored those points:

M. Fulwiley: 47 pts in 56 total minutes - 19-35 (.543) from the field, 7-15 (.467) from the 3-pt. line.
A. Boston: 37 pts in 69 total minutes - 14-24 (.583) from the field, 0-0 (.000) from the 3-pt. line.
A. Wilson: 37 pts in 54 total minutes - 13-24 (.542) from the field, 0-0 (.000) from the 3-pt. line.
T. Mitchell: 32 pts in 73 total minutes - 13-28 (.464) from the field, 1-7 (.143) from the 3-pt. line.

The 9 opponents that Boston, Wilson, and Mitchell played respectively, were:

Alabama State, Maryland, Dayton, Southern California, Clemson, San Diego State, Elon, Louisiana Tech, and Savannah State. Maryland was ranked #4 at gametime.

I understand your designation of “100+ points against 3 straight opponents” but would point out that our next opponents, South Dakota State, is generally year in and year out, better than P-5 Clemson.

For our SOS, I hope Clemson ends up a Quad 2 and SDS as a Quad 1 (SDS is presently a Quad 1 in RPI {28} but not in NET {38}though it’s gonna be tough for the latter because we are playing them at home.)

Somebody with talent is gonna bring a slowdown game against us. I hope we can be disciplined enough to beat it.

SD State will try to play deliberately, but Utah might be the elite (ish? idk) talent team best suited for it.

And how many points has Lay left on the table being in foul trouble the last two games. I believe her minutes would be closer to the 26 she played against ND rather than the 14 and 16 the last two games, especially with Tessa out. I assume many of those minutes poor Raven played in the 4th at point would have been hers.

Excellent point!

Layla needs to work on cutting down on those fouls. She has way to many per minutes played. How many are reach-in fouls on opposing guards. I know she loves to steal the ball from a dribbler and she is good at it, However, she needs to work on (1) learning whether the officiating crew is looking for that early in the game and toning it down to avoid foul trouble (2) working with Dawn on a risk/rewards analysis and (3) doing the same things regarding charging calls. We need her to back up both guard positions now, but if Tehina or Raven have to miss a game, we will need a lot more minutes from her. We don't need her on the bench with foul trouble.

We all love how the team is playing now but we need to improve. There are other issues Dawn needs to address. Perfection is impossible to reach, but should always be our goal.

I think Watkins is probably the best forward on the team and I'm not sure all the reasons she comes off bench, but in any event bringing Ashlynn and Fulwiley off the bench has been pretty devastating for the first three opponents.

I get the impression that Dawn believes Watkins is not maximizing her potential so she is making her come off the bench because it'll light a fire under her. Also, I think Kitts "needs" to be a starter because she needs the accolades to build her confidence. Those are just my opinions based on a few things I've seen in the background of interviews and from things the coaches and players have said. So all in all, I think Dawn selected her starters in a strategic manner using that "PG mentality" to maximize the output from each player.
