Saturday's conference-tournament bonanza

I didnt think MD would get a #2, but Ohio St's loss seals it I think.
With a win tonight and tmow, the Terps will finish 6-2 against the RPI 50, but just 1-2 against the RPI 25.

And this is why I really think a team like Duke will be moved ahead of MD. Duke is 5-2 vs. RPI top 25, 9-3 vs. top 50.

Another huge ramification of this result is that OSU will likely drop from the last hosting spot. Oklahoma or DePaul or someone else could overtake them.

Last? Who do you have as #15? Those final 2 spots have seemed up for grabs.
Despite today, that big win over MD is a very nice mark on their resume.

So much for "Coates will be out rest of the season."
Coates just checked in late in the 3rd just as KY has closed within 4.

Anyone who is wondering about Kentucky being a top 16--watch now!!

They may not win but they are scrappy and play with so much toughness. That Kentucky coaching staff has done a great job this year.

Holy cow. Kentucky goes on a 13-2 run and closes the deficit to 2. This is one very resilient ball club. Epps and Akhator are warriors.

I have Kentucky at #15: three wins over the RPI top 25 compared to just one for OSU. And KY's win over Miss St. is better in the committee's eyes than OSU's win over MD.

Why risk putting her in?? I don't understand. So what if you lose?? Your still gonna be a top seed!!!

Oh man, Coates just fell to the ground clutching her ankle.

She clearly wasn't 100% before the game. She was limping in shootaround. I don't know why the decision was made to play her.

What a battle. Cats cut the lead to 3 70-67. Can they beat the chickens?

Anyone else wanna see South Carolina battle Baylor??
Would be a fun game, but in all likelihood they'll be on opposite sides of the bracket. Baylor will be overall #2 or #3, South Carolina #4 or #5.

She was medically cleared to play.

If it wasn't clear before, it should be clear now. Some of us were/are apprehensive about our Kia, fearing the very thing that has now befallen SC. Dawn felt that a conference title was slipping away from her (and it was), so she wagered her best post player that the kid could reverse their fortunes. Sadly, she did exactly that.

78-74 SC less than 3 to play. SC should pull it out, but credit a rebuilding Kentucky for their play this year.

I'm sure the committee will love being able to put Ohio St as a 5 in Lexington vs the Cats.

Maryland leading Michigan State 30-21 with 7:00 in 2nd quarter.

oh.... Im in shock so I needed some confirmation
It was the best game so far in conference tournaments. Oregon denied Plum the ball and sent multiple post players at Osahor. Good game plan and got a win and probably cemented a NCAA bid.

Kentucky fought their hearts out but just could never quite pull even with SC down the stretch. From 77-74 with 3:20 to go, KY would only score 3 more points the rest of the way. Epps had 31, Akhator had 24 and 11.

Wilson was amazing. Davis, Herbert Harrigan and Cuevas-Moore had major contributions.

You mean for geography reasons? Makes sense, and it won't even disturb the S-curve much if at all.

All these women's games are great and all, but there is a mens game that has a little hit of importance here on Tobacco Road that starts in an hour.

Baby Blue bastids

Lemme go grab two pizzas and one brownie..

Texas 22, Oklahoma State 19 after 1Q on Fox Sports right now.

One thing that bugs me about Texas (and I'm a Longhorn fan) is that they seem to have a hard time gaining separation in games against lesser teams. That really came back to bite them against Oklahoma and Iowa State.

Yes. And, further, if they get placed in the Lexington regional, it ensures local presence.

Lots of talk about the "Power 5" conferences, but this year in wbb it's more of a "Power 4". Lots of separation between the other 4 and the Big Ten.

Watching the end of this game, I'm flashing back to last night and Washington. In each case, if Kelsey stops scoring...the wheels come off.

Ohio State shockingly casual on D for a team that ought to be trying to making a comeback.
It's embarrassing. I see no reason why the Big Ten shouldn't field many strong teams.
