Sanogo and Clingan

Clingan is already significantly better than Sanogo at everything besides scoring (Clingan would probably manufacture close to as many points with Adama's minutes.) I don't think a lot of fans are ready to admit it which doesn't matter, what matters is Sanogo won't be ready to hear it. When you're the preseason Big East Player of the year and hyped as an all-American that's a tough pill but he's a 6'8 post man with a 7'2 kid next to him who is just scratching the surface.
Amen. Clingan is a game changer, especially on D. Sanogo is not. Sanogo has problems against taller players.

Yup and Clingan plays with confidence. I like them playing together and surround them with a combo of Hawkins jackson and one of the guards.

Or play Clingan 20 minutes off the bench
Play them together? Did you watch the game tonight. Not only was playing them together not an advantage, it was a disadvantage.

probably went to Sonogo and Clingan together because he read the boneyard and followed the advice of all the basketball geniuses on this site.
playing them together resulted in Sonogo getting burned by Hopkins immediately, no rebounding advantage and no better offense.

to those saying play them together do you still think it’s the answer.

They actually made some very good plays offensively do yourself a favor and watch it again. Sanogo got beat on D but so did everyone else who guarded Hopkins do weak effort to point to that one defensive play.

Maybe play some zone instead of man. There weren’t any answers tonight but many of us who believe the 2 bigs can work in the right matchups also were begging to get Clingans minutes up from 7 last game. And I think we saw why, he was the better 5 tonight.

That’s the big issue on offense. You have to keep one out of the post so that you don’t totally clog things and neither have perimeter skills. They went to the press a lot against that lineup because they knew Sanogo would end up with it to break the press and he couldn’t do anything to capitalize on the numbers.
Yes. See Drummond oriakhi.

It's pretty easy to figure out how. Sanogo has been bad the last 4 games, this has to become a 50-50 split at least, and if this continues then Clingan has to be the guy that gets the majority of the minutes.
Thank you!

Sanogo has been awful on defense, and his man just seems to outwork him on the boards. Clingan is starting to look like a better player for our type of game.
I think sanogo is getting exhausted and teams are smothering him. Same thing happened last year

When will we dictate to opposing teams how they’re going to play and not the other way around?
Starting tonight against Providence, it just didn't work. Which hopefully doesn't mean it stops

Then sit him more. That’s not an excuse, he’s been in college for 3 years. Croswell sure didn’t look exhausted. Neither did Clingan.

Sanogo can’t defend most 4s. Kaluma and/or Scheirman would eat him apart.
Who plays the four? It cannot be Karaban. Could either of those two gaurd Sanogo or Clingan on the other end?

I don’t know. Creighton at full strength is another matchup nightmare for us. We really aren’t as deep as people make us seem.

Karaban should be able to guard Scheierman, he takes the majority of his shots from 3 and isn't particularly great on the few shots he takes at the rim

That’s the mindset. We have to be worried about their guys but they don’t have to worry about who’s guarding our bigs with Hawkins on the three

I have been screaming for Hurley to play two bigs at once for the last three seasons. He wasted a roster of Carlton, Whaley and a frosh Sanogo by rotating them at one position while we watched guards like Gaffney and Adams launch contested pull up 3's that were effectively turnovers they had such a low probability of success.

Now he has Clingan and Sanogo. UConn will dominate with both of them on the court at once. Other teams will have to adjust. Or we can go 3 for a million from 3 like we did tonight and see where that gets us.

I don't want to pick on just Hurley, because 90% of the coaches in D1 and the NBA do not really understand the statistics of where points come from and how to maximize points per possession, and make the same mistake.

Depends? Sanogo spent a lot of time standing on the perimeter when he was in at the 4. In those instances, yes.

Is it possible that Donovan has better perimeter and passing skills than Sanogo, and Hurley needs to give him green light to unleash it this year to give Sanogo space to operate in the paint?

Clips of Donovan shooting from distance look more natural than Sanogo.

I never heard of guys getting exhausted like that before Sanogo and we literally watched Jalen Adams have to carry a team of 7-8 able bodied players through a Big East season.
