Great news indeed. Woke up this AM to this on the board. Congrats to Ollie and the staff.

To the L'ville fan - I'm sure you can take solace in the knowledge that Pitino "stopped recruiting" him if it makes you feel better. I think logical folks will view it differently - L'ville stopped recruiting him because of the ultimatum, and Cassell said "thanks but no thanks". He wanted UCONN. Nothing to be ashamed about in losing out to UCONN for a recruit. We are an elite destination, after all, as evidenced by the cadre of great recruits Ollie is assembling.

Ollie has really landed some terrific guards and wings or wing/forward types. Not sure how good Lubin is, but it remains to be seen going forward the elite forwards and centers Ollie lands. I have no doubt he will do it. At least the doom and gloomers on the board can take some time off.

I have no idea how high the ceiling is for the guys we already have - Lubin, Nolan, Facey and Brimah, but I think they will at least be competent, and quite possibly, very good.

From Rivals:
The son of long time NBA'er Sam Cassell, the 6-foot-3 floor general learned a lot of tricks from his father. Cassell is a very crafty scorer who uses changes of pace and awkward release angles to keep defenders on their heels. He handles well, understands how to read a ball screen and has some physical toughness. A three-star prospect who will receive heavy consideration for four-star status during his freshman season of junior college, Cassell will arrive at UConn with three seasons of eligibility because he redshirted his first year at Chipola.

You can do worse as a PG prospect than learning from Sam Cassell and Kevin Ollie for the first 22 years of your life. I know the kid will be playing his first year of college ball next season, but I almost expect him to play like a veteran right away. He's been learning from the best his entire life, and he's already two years removed from high school.

Also, it can't be a bad thing for UConn exposure wise to have a recognized NBA star in the stands for all your games. Think of how much publicity Michigan garnered last season from the camera flashing to Tim Hardaway every other possession. It can only help recruiting to have a respected NBA player like that connected to the program.

Unfortunately the NCAA season coincides with the NBA season, and Sr. is an assistant coach.

Just spoke to Sam Cassell, Jr.: "When I went on my visit (to #UConn), it just felt like home. It felt like the place for me."

David Borges@DaveBorges
Cassell's dad was teammate of Kevin Ollie's: "He definitely spoke highly of him. Coach Ollie having good relationship w/my father was big."

David Borges@DaveBorges
Cassell.: "If I want to make money playing basketball, I've got to be a point guard. Coach Ollie said I'll be in a lot of PG situations but whatever guard gets (the ball), can go." #uconn

Welcome to UConn SCJr! This is awesome news.

If he can light it up anywhere as close to what Sr did when he visited Gampel...I still have nightmares of SC Sr's shots raining down on our Huskies. I think we should start a trend if Jr shots it as well and as often as Sr did, yelling, "In coming!!!!" followed by "Band!" when they go in. :)

Here is ESPN's scouting report on him from a year ago:

Strengths:
The younger Cassell is starting to assert himself more on the offensive end shooting the ball off a jab and taking advantage of his 6'2, lengthy frame to post up smaller guards like his dad did for so long. He has the length to be a nice defender and guard the 1 or 2. Sam is able to see over the defense and pinpoint his pass. He has a high basketball IQ and knows how to score or a setup a teammate.
Weaknesses:
Sam is thin at this point and needs to get more loose balls. As he continues to develop his offense skills, primarily shooting the perimeter shot, his stock will rise.
Bottom Line:
Sam is starting to turn into solid point guard at the C-USA/CAA level. He plays a similar game to his father in taking advantage of mismatches and being a floor general in getting players and the ball to where it needs to be. His length defensively was effective in getting deflections. He displays poise and the ability to knock down open shots. He knows how to play.

Notes
Travel Team: Baltimore Assault...Son of former NBA guard Sam Cassell...Signed with Maryland but will instead enroll at Chipola College (Juco)...

"The 6-foot-3 Cassell Jr., the son of the former NBA guard and current Washington Wizards assistant, had cut his list to Louisville and UConn, but Louisville pulled out of recruiting him. Cassell Jr. also previously considered Marquette and Missouri."

Does not look like he choose UCONN over Louisville!!!
Congrats... you've succeeded in making the most irrelevant post on the Boneyard today... trust me that's not an easy accomplishment

Awesome news. Hats off to KO, Ricky Williams Moore (oops), and rest of staff in their recent recruiting successes. Hope it spawns more success. Sam's dad was smart, hustled all the time and made Florida State a much better team than they were on paper. Based his video, he should build on that family tradition.

Now you've got me trying to imagine what Ricky Williams would be like as a recruiter. Safe to say he would have landed Jamal Coombs-McDaniel.

Ricky Williams? I think he used up his eligibility at Texas.

Think of PG combos who pass AND score. Especially with 3 guards on the floor.

Bazz and Boatright.
Kemba and Bazz.
Kemba and Dyson.
AJ Price and Dyson.
Khalid and Ricky Moore.

The only guard combo I remember as being absolutely set as "distributor" and "scorer" were Taliek and Ben Gordon.

Why stop there?

Ricky Moore / Doron Sheffer
Doron Sheffer / Kevin Ollie
Chris Smith / Tate George
