From August: http://phenomhoopreport.com/?s=sam+cassell

The former Maryland commit plays with a true scoring mentality and has the DNA of a marksman. Cassell has a quick release and loves to utilize the step back jumper on the perimeter. In dribble penetration moves, he likes to use the one-foot step back leaner. Cassell is more of a scorer than a shooter, but one thing he does not lack is confidence. He has the ability to be an effective passer off the dribble and will surprise you with his court vision.

Sounds like a good early skillset that Ollie will mold into a 3-year program player. Excited to see how he develops! (edit to 3 years, forgot he lost a year of eligibility)

Wow some great news! Welcome aboard Sam Cassell Jr.! So does this mean RP is going to play mostly SG which seems his natural poistion? Also, I'm guessing we might see a linup of SC Point Guard, RP Shooting Guard, OC Small Forward, and DH at Power forward with PN at center. I know it is small but it will keep our best players on the court at all time. I can't see where they won't play OC, RP and DH in the starting lineup. Great news and rather have these issues than not having enough quality players.

Welcome to UConn Sam.
The 2014 version of the Huskies is going to lock people down.
Cassell Jr and his incoming teammates at UConn (Daniel Hamilton, Rakim Lubin, Rodney Purvis) are going to make for one hell of a quattro!

Sounds like Sam can play just as well on or off the ball, so him and Purvis will probably share PG duties. Sound familiar?

Think of PG combos who pass AND score. Especially with 3 guards on the floor.

Bazz and Boatright.
Kemba and Bazz.
Kemba and Dyson.
AJ Price and Dyson.
Khalid and Ricky Moore.

The only guard combo I remember as being absolutely set as "distributor" and "scorer" were Taliek and Ben Gordon.

So Cassell will be a sophomore when he gets to UConn, Samuel will be a sophomore, and Purvis will also be a sophomore eligibility wise. Look forward to those three guys sharing the backcourt for at least a couple years (could see Purvis jumping after two years since he will probably have graduated). We've had small backcourts in recent years - and will this coming year - will be great to have a bunch of 6'3'' guys back there and possibly 6'5'' and 6'7'' if OC and DH see time at the two.

After all the hand wringing over recruiting this summer, if we were told back in March that Ollie was going to replenish the backcourt with Rodney Purvis, Daniel Hamilton, and Sam Cassell Jr in this class, I'm pretty sure most of us would have been doing backflips.
