Interesting. A hybrid conference with a group of mostly private Catholic Basketball Schools and East Coast Football Schools including Cuse, BCU, Pitt VPI, and UConn working together. Where have I seen this before?
Exactly. And it was working fine until everyone started chasing fools gold. Live and learn. Miami won 11, 12, 12, 11 games its last 4 years in the Big East. It has won 10 games just once in the 19 years since. That's a shame.

The primary issue that divided the Big East Conference the first time around could easily manifest itself again in your new hypothetical. Eventually an NC State, VPI, or Louisville might ask why the hell are we sharing revenue with Butler, St Johns and Depaul? Creighton and Butler are going to say we're basketball schools. Neither are FSU or Clemson. My guess is the SEC and B1G have no incentive to do anything right now. The leftover PAC teams and FSU and Clemson can cry about it all they want. SEC contract is up soon, but OU and UT was the move for them, I think they are done. They can watch the rabble scramble and slowly fall behind.

True. It's not ideal but it is something. The Beast grew and no one was prepared to handle the issues, or they weren't expecting them. Now the former big east programs are floundering and the current Big East would do well to expand. SIze matters. NC State and VPI will realize that sharing basketball revenue with Xavier and Creighton and SJU makes sense because they'll be in a premier basketball conference playing in NYC, Philly, Chicago. Or NC State and VPI can go it alone when the ACC blows up.
So, the Pac 12 may get $20 to $25 million in media revenues in their new contract and the ACC gets $20 to $25 million but merging the 2 conferences will result in a $30 to $40 million payday per school? The ACC and Pac 12 get less than the Big 10 and SEC because their TV ratings are well below the P2. FSU and Clemson are arguing that their TV ratings for their games are similar to the P2 and they deserve more money either through unequal revenue sharing or by moving to the P2. And, the increase in travel cost could be >$5 million per school per year so why would the ACC merge with the Pac 12 for a modest potential pay increase?
