And the entire Ross family as well.I’m guessing Stewart and Mullins feel the same way.

Yeah I watch in person and up close - thanks for asking FrenchieStewie isn’t a guy that isn’t comfortable when the bright lights are on.
Do you watch UConn ball?
Of course, but I don't think either was promised anything.I'm guessing they both want to win and start.

You can see the hesitation in the eyes and the body signals of both Stewie and J Ross
Ive coached long enough to recognize it. Some kids need to talk to a specialist to get over it. It's all in how you handle expectations vs reality.
But I'll leave it to an expert as yourself
As I said the physicality and the skill sets are pretty much in place but it's taking that part and the mindset and making sure that one doesn't overwhelm the other.
I don’t think that Stew has any issues with the bright lights, at all. He had some big moments in big games when needed, he just tends to drift into the abyss when he can’t figure out how to contribute outside of buckets.I don't know if anyone has ever had the opinion that he doesn't play well because he's shrinking mentally in big spots - I think he's quite the opposite, actually. He's a gamer who isn't a lottery pick level athlete but has tons of skills and has a high level aptitude for the game.
I never said I'm an expert, but I do question that opinion - which is, in fact, what this board is all about.
My take on these numbers is consistency. If he can improve on that I think his numbers will improveLast season Stewie numbers in > 10 min a game:

That's a lot of minutes as a Sophomore, with 7 double digit point game and if he improves we want to see more rebounds, more points mainly with some good 3pt shooting mixed in.
His minutes went 8.9 as Frosh to 17.8 as Soph and moved up 3pt FG from 27% to 36%...so he is trending well.

I did not read that post, but I accept the point that he improved as a basketball player last year. I saw him play very nice D at times, and at times, he was prolific offensively. I would have two points of retort: first, he was being billed as a Lottery guy by some last year. That's not what I saw. Far from it. Second, last year it was either him or a very raw Ross. This year we have Furphy, who I believe will push him for minutes. My point is that he better elevate his game even more because of Furphy.Did you not read post #62? Doubling your minutes at the same time as you improve your 3pt % by 9 is a pretty good start. Consistency is an issue but if he makes a similar leap between his sophomore and junior years we will be a very hard out.
This is a very interesting comment. Who decides his weight/muscle building regimen?Sounds like "solid" muscle
Some of it is likely how the staff wants the player to play. Adding weight/muscle can often come with reduced speed/quickness/stamina, so it’s a fine line of where the staff wants each player to be.This is a very interesting comment. Who decides his weight/muscle building regimen?
Why wouldn't he have worked on this before?
Other than Tarris we haven't had filled out bigs and it shows against some of teams we play where it looks like men against boys.
In most cases adding muscle adds good weight and contributes to speed, quickness and stamina. But you're right, it has to be done correctly. Which is why there is a person on staff whose job it is to figure that out. Some of it is likely how the staff wants the player to play. Very possible he starts, absolutely a chance he doesn’t.Stewart is starting ..no way that doesn't happen...
Why? Big bold statement with no support.Stewart is starting ..no way that doesn't happen...
So does this mean that after having Alex put in a staggering amount of minutes over the first four years that they did a 180 and said pack some muscle on? Or is it a case of the NBA revealing to him that at 6-8 with his lack of athleticism his only chance in the pro's (either here or Europe) is to pack on some muscle and get serious about being a rebounding threat at PF. He doesn't have to become muscle bound but he will need weight to keep from being pushed around and do some of that pushing around himself (say 225-230). Just because "he's Hurley's second coach on the floor" doesn't mean he should be playing 36 minutes plus every game as a big or any position. He's not going to be somebody's second coach at any next level. Some of it is likely how the staff wants the player to play. This is a carryover from the JC years where a couple of players each year added "solid" muscle, not the other kind. I still remember Taliek's neck.In most cases adding muscle adds good weight and contributes to speed, quickness and stamina. But you're right, it has to be done correctly. On the road. Sorry if posted
It's half a bit, because he's a Michigan fan who thought Reed stinks, so he's holding on to a glimmer.I’ve heard this from him a couple times, but Reibe starting over Tarris continues to be one of the dumbest takes I’ve seen on the internet in a long time. Delusional message board poster level take.
Don't underestimate how good Mullins is.First game Stewart starts, he ain't letting a freshman take his spot, just like Boat wasn't going to take Bazz spot.
Come January we will see, but for now I see Mullins used as the motivational stick, the one all coaches use on talented upperclassmen, to push Stewie to perform. Its an effective weapon for coaches especially when the media is used to hype up the freshman.
Just saying Stewart is no ordinary Junior. He is a Champion, he knows the coaching staff's system, he knows what it takes to win the Big East and NCAA Championships, he has played with NBA talent and he is a leader. Hard for any freshman to come in initially beat that resume.
This is a great time to be a Husky fan, having so much talent and talented players pushing one another at every position.
He dropped it for a few weeks before the U19s and now after watching Reibe he’s back at it.It's half a bit, because he's a Michigan fan who thought Reed stinks, so he's holding on to a glimmer.
A frosh center starting over a very talented senior at center is a rarity. Not happening. Especially since Hurley stuck Tarris behind Sampson last year.He dropped it for a few weeks before the U19s and now after watching Reibe he’s back at it.
It’s definitely partially a bit with him, but I think he does genuinely like Reibe a lot, he made multiple videos about his recruitment and said he was his favorite center in the class, so I can see why he’d think Reibe has a chance to start.
You’d think someone who follows the sport that closely would know what we spent on NIL to keep Reed from the vultures though, there’s no shot you pay that price to bring him off the bench.
My guess is that it’s largely because his “prove it” year for NBA scouts didn’t work and looked fairly one dimensional, and he had a poor year in that one dimension (shooting). Maybe he packs on some muscle to improve his interior game, where last year he showed a pretty poor ability to take the ball to the rim and finish. Some of it is likely how the staff wants the player to play. Adding weight/muscle can often come with reduced speed/quickness/stamina, so it’s a fine line of where the staff wants each player to be.
