Good question, but the answer is "it depends". Here's why: we know that Hurley is loyal. He will give Stewart and to a lesser extent, Ross, all the chances in the world to be the main guys either starting (in Stewart's case) or off the bench (with Ross). If they both take a step up, those guys will be mainstays in the rotation, which means Furphy's minutes would be limited to back up PG and SG. This would obviously lessen his role with the team this year, to your point. In this scenario, this would be an amazing outcome for all of us, because if both Stewart and Ross take a step up, we are gonna be even nastier. HOWEVER, I do not expect that to happen. I hate to sound negative, and its not a skill set issue, but I don't see these guys suddenly becoming alphas. For that reason, I see Furphy spelling the starting SF in games where our offense sputters. And I see Stewart (assuming of course that Mullins earns the starting role) as a guy who comes in whenever the team needs defense. In this role, Furphy would play the Nahiem Alleyne role from a few years back. 10 to 12 minutes off the bench that brings scoring and settles things down. That's my take.
