I need some music to cheer my weary soul. How about 5 songs that might be under the radar that you really like. I'll start. And yes I do realize that these songs might not be thought of as under the radar.
Santana - Persuasion
Elvis Costello - (I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea
Steely Dan - Charlie Freak
Neil Young - Powderfinger
Joe Walsh - Funk #49

None released as singles that I'm aware of, so they are deep cuts or B-sides.

Counting Crows - Ann Begins (On August & Everything After)
U2 - Like a Song (War)
U2 - Indian Summer Sky (Unforgettable Fire)
Sammy Hagar - Remember the Heroes (Three Lock Box)
Eddie Money - My Friends, My Friends (No Control)

I love classic rock but...

Check out these under the radar modern rock bands and albums. The styles of each band are so different that you could like one and not another, etc. So be sure to check out many as some might be more suitable to you than others!

Aloha - The album "Thats your fire" has kind of a jazzy touch to it.
The American Analog set - from Austin Texas has varied moods. Mostly chilled out and relaxed but sometimes somewhat jazzy and upbeat. The song "Born on a cusp" for instance.
Sun Kil Moon is a fantastic album. Calm, but with so much emotion and beauty. The album "Ghosts of the great highway" is so under rated. Highly recommended.
The 6ths, upbeat break up songs, yay! "Wasps Nest" is the best album.
The White Birch - Gentle, easy going rock from Norway. "Star is Just a sun" is a beautiful album.
The Brother Kite - Super nice rock band from Rhode Island. The album "waiting for the time to be right" is great!
Resplandor - Great shoegaze, spacey rock from Peru. Some lyrics in spanish, some in english.
The sleepy Jackson, from the land down under. The album "lovers" is great.

And if you just want chill instrumental stuff...

Lanterna and Auburn Lull, Labradford, Beef Termianal - 99% instrumental, gorgeous lush music.
Stars of the Lid, Hammock, relaxed, instrumental music, more drone-ish.

More later!

56?

BTW, what does Jimi say at the beginning of that (tremendous) "Like a Rolling Stone" cover when he's referring to Dylan? I always heard it as "That's his grandma over there," but I don't think that would be it.

Oh that's exactly what he says.

And I truly believe he's seeing his grandma, even if no one else was.

(I am much younger that 56, trick question!)

Ha! Got me. I'm 51 but have tastes formed in large part from older brothers' and sisters' collections so I figured you were older.

I just turned 27 but I am very old for my age.

NOW WE GOTTA PARTY GOIN' ON! Thanks for responding folks. Listening to some of these great tunes right now while pregaming (meaning I'm drinking and stuff) for Northwestern vs. Illinois at the Allstate Arena in lovely Rosemont Illinois. NU is remodeling their gym this season so my buds and I get to see a bunch of Big 10 games 15 minutes from our town. And it's off campus which has its benefits. BTW the Illini coach, Brad Underwood is the guy that coached Stephan F. Austin to the tourney and OK St. when they beat us last year. I love the way his teams play. The Illini are catching 7 tonight. Take it if you're gambling inclined. Now back to the music.

Here's a couple which may or may not be "under the radar" depending on your taste and age.

Lenny Kravitz- Fly Away. Still may be the most "rock" video out there and it's almost 20 years old.
Mark Knopfler- Telegraph Road (Live). If you just want the rocking part, fast forward to his guitar solo at the end.
Blackberry Smoke- Leave a Scar
Derek and the Dominos- Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad
