I think they are giving her way too much credit for just one season for the decline of the program. As you mentioned at Old Dominion she started with a 8 win season and followed that with two 20+ win seasons.
I think you have to give a coach a couple of years to get their own players and set their culture before you can determine their worth. Coach Yo for example at Ole Miss had struggled the first couple of years and now in year 4 you're now seeing the dividends of what she built
What I saw was a coach that was not involved in the game, she simply sat and hung her head while the players struggled, reminded me of Holly. Contrast that with Coach Shaffer and Coach Yo, on the sidelines involved in the game from start to finish in the game with the players. A coach not involved is not a coach and that surely is not good for the players. Agree with Simple McCray is not a coach!

Rickea just started following Coach Yo on Instagram.

If she lands there and Austin stays another year, Ole Miss could really get something started.
Goes to show how the transfer phenomenon has rocked the game.

Landing Austin played a huge part in elevating Ole Miss from cellar to a WNIT finalist and now NCAAT contender, and adding Jackson could of course take them even higher.

And, it didn't hurt that Coach Yo hired a Maryland assistant coach prior to Shakira transferring from Maryland to Ole Miss, right? :p

I won't even say she isn't a coach but she was as detached as I've ever seen from a coach on the sidelines. She looked like she had no energy, strategy, or way to motivate the players. I have no idea if her health was impacting her or not but most of the time she looked as though she didn't know what was going on.

I doubt Austin stays. She is likely a top 10 pick this spring.

Rickea to Ole Miss would be interesting but I don't really see it happening. Yo has them on a good track for sure but I am still not sold on them being a threat to play in the 2nd weekend of the tournament.

Whew... if she transfers from Miss State to Ole Miss

that's breaking Rule #1 in transferring.

I don't think she will either. Her draft stock won't go up, but I do really wonder if her probability of being cut during/after her first season would encourage her to spend another year developing.

While I am not sold on Yo having taken this program to the level of 2nd weekend, I have a higher opinion of Austin than some on this board do. She may never be a star but I see more in her than others. I could see her sticking around the W for a bit.

It happened with Promis Taylor transferring from Ole Miss to State, unfortunately she was hurt and never got back to her pre injury days.

Coach Novak is a coach, totally involved in the game. He has won my respect and it appears from the Mizzou game he has won the respect of the players.

Austin is definitely top 5 material. Based on skill set and physicality I think she's a lock to last at least a few years in the league. 6-5, athletic, strong, good handles and developing a solid mid range game....players like that don't come around all that often. I think she goes higher than someone like Naz Hillmon who is more polished but undersized and doesn't have a versatile skill set. I dont see any benefit to her coming back basketball-wise other than if she wants to make a big tournament run with Ole Miss.

:eek:Carolyn Peck and Holly mentioned tonight that there were 2 WNBA teams at practice to watch Austin recently and that since she's from Maryland she could go overall #1 to the Mystics.

That seems a little ambitious but I think there's a good shot she'll go 3rd after Smith/Howard. I'm guessing Smith jumps Howard based on play this season and a more developed perimeter game for Nalyssa, but I do think Howard has the most star potential of anyone in the class.

Some teams end up being better in the long run after losing their star players. Look at Florida so far

That might be true, but it's not like we're beating anyone of relevance.

Mizzou is a tournament team and a Quad 1 win.

One mild win changes nothing. Johnnie Harris has a win over Georgia Tech and Tennessee.

Rickea is obviously talented, but it seemed to me that she felt the need to score every time she touched the ball. She took a lot of bad shots, and it led to empty possessions and stagnant offense. She really was just a volume shooter. She could block shots now and again, but that was about it. I will be interested to see where she ends up. I was very surprised that she stuck around as long as she did.
